What's the movie about?
Years before meeting Max Rokatanski, Furiosa is desperately looking for a way home after being captured by warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).
Opinion
“Furios” is an epic myth, a grand odyssey, a prequel to the most gripping action movie of the decade and perhaps the most ambitious film in the career of George Miller (even considering “Babe: Pig in the City”). And what is striking here is not that Miller, four decades later, is still crawling in this crazy sandbox, but that he still squeezes masterpieces from this material, lightning quickly overgrown with cult status.
While the action of Fury Road was compressed at 36 o'clock and gracefully fits into one spirit-blowing combat scene, Furiosa's story spans a 15-year period and is packaged into five chapters, each of which bears a meaningful title like "The Pole Of Inaccessibility." "Furios" is carved according to the patterns of the best sequels / prequels - it organically combines considerable differences from the previous film and at the same time is inextricably woven with it (it immediately becomes clear what Charlize Theron meant when she spoke about "the search for redemption" or that her mother "died on the third day"). And places that have been whispered about or shown in passing (Lead Farm, Green Lands of Thousand Mothers) are finally on the screen, lively and grandiose.
No questions to casting. Anya Taylor-Joy appears on the screen only at the beginning of the second hour, while the first brilliantly drags on her fragile shoulders Alila Brown (future superstar, no other). This happens almost seamlessly and it is striking how both actresses clearly found a balance between inflexibility and roughness of their character. What is it, Miller even managed to achieve a tolerable game from Chris Hemsworth, whose acting efforts outside the Avengers franchise are usually painful to watch. Here, Chris gives a performance of the level of the Nolan Joker. His charismatic chatterbox and chaotic despot Dementus, who runs an armada of bikers (or “thousand crazy bastards,” as he affectionately calls them), rolls into the Hall of Fame of the Best Antagonists on a gasoline chariot.
Any fears that Miller, in his almost 80s, decided to put on his grandfather’s slippers and slowly walk through the story of Furiosa, crumble to dust with the first hyper-energy action scene, which happens literally in the first minute of the film. And then the roller coaster - two and a half hours of incredible ups and downs and adrenaline pump, comparable to watching all the films of Michael Bay in a volley. It seemed to me that the basic charm of Fury Road is that there is no exposition, only action and a bare nerve. And that if there are more dialogues and details, the illusion will collapse, exposing the inner emptiness of this world. It turned out that Miller’s ideas are much broader and grander and he masterfully works with various genres and formats. This maniac can easily replace the engine at least in the max “Interceptor”, even in the old 18-wheeled “War Pig”, and run straight to Valhalla.
Personally, I had concerns about this film because Fury Road set a very high bar. Yes, there was no plot in that film, but it was more than compensated by the action, which captured from the first seconds and did not let go until the very end. From the very beginning, it was clear that it would be impossible to repeat past success, because it is usually very rare in stories about the formation of someone. The film is directed by George Miller, who has a manic attitude to detail. Looking ahead, I will say that the film turned out, with nuances, but still turned out.
I'd like to start with Miller's typical distinctive techniques that were in the film. Sudden close-ups of faces - there, cruelty - there. There's a tooth-bending action. Colorful and memorable characters are in place. And now it's all right.
Despite the fact that this picture mostly tells about the childhood and formation of Furiosa, chases and various local battles are still present. Yes, there are not so many of them, yes, they are far from the scale of the previous film, but in their originality and intensity they are not inferior at all. As before, everyone shouts “Remember me!” before jumping with a boom stick on the enemy, as before the sound of motors can bring to orgasm. I would like to thank you for leaving the composer from the previous part. The music of Tom Holkenborg was perfect for this picture.
Despite the fact that the main character is a girl, ferocity and severity in the film do not do anywhere. Here, as before, everyone dies spectacularly and originally and does not spare anyone: no women, no children, no lizards. The latter is particularly offensive. We watch a little cute girl turn into a warrior who can kill in cold blood. And even though Anya Taylor-Joy is not exactly like Charlize Theron, at the end of the film the differences become almost invisible. I would also like to mention the character of Chris Hemsworth. During the first minutes of the film, I thought he was playing a slightly more brazen and drunken version of Thor, but later it turned out that his character is not so stupid, and from the point of view of strategy, he is almost a genius.
Of the minuses, I would like to note the fact that in the course of watching the film, analogies with “The Road of Fury” will constantly pop up. You will wait for every second of the chase and battle...and you will not. Yes, all this is present, but in much smaller quantities and on the wrong scale.
8 out of 10
Since the previous film in fact had no plot, this picture looks very whole and almost in one breath.
The post-apocalyptic genre is not one of my favorites. However, the most important novelties of the movie can not be missed. I met Mad Max in 2015 after the release of Fury Road. I liked the movie, but not so much as to be interested in the original trilogy. But it was enough to wait with moderate success for Furiosa - the backstory of one of the brightest heroines of the Road (and the fact that she is played by my favorite Anya Taylor-Joy greatly helped the wait). Well, it's a wonderful day, after all!
Furiosa, who lived in the Green Lands of a Thousand Mothers, one of the last bits of wildlife in the middle of the desert, is captured as a girl by bikers who take her to her leader Dementus. But the girl manages to deal with the kidnappers, so that they do not tell about the edge of abundance to bloodthirsty warriors-destructors. So Dementus leaves the girl with him, hoping to find her home. In this quest, he stumbles upon the land of Uncountable Joe, his Citadel and an army of fanatical pursuers. Escaped from Dementus and then from Unspeakable Joe, Furios, hiding his identity, becomes a front-line fighter, mechanic, driver and begins to ride a combat truck with Praetorian Jack on Fury Road. But she will not abandon the attempts to return home, as well as the opportunity to take revenge on Dementus.
The main thing in such a movie is atmosphericity, and the film copes with this task perfectly. For the second time in a year (after Dune), we are going to the desert. But this desert is the result of devastating wars and cataclysms provoked by humanity, and turned the survivors into bloodthirsty, militant, fanatical and dying people who must fight every day for the right to live. It acts simultaneously and depressing, but at the same time at the same time at something fascinating: trips to the desert dunes on bikes, improved cars and powerful combat trucks in the company of mad thugs, armed to the teeth and constantly fighting with someone - just some unnatural romance in the conditions of the apocalypse.
Before the premiere, I read some interviews with the creator of George Miller, who argued that the film does not need much text - and most importantly, it is an action. One can agree with him on something - you watch such a blockbuster movie for the sake of the atmosphere, spectacular chases and shootouts, and maybe the distorted philosophy of the new world. And the words seem superfluous. However, for 2.5 hours of the film, you still feel this duration, and at some point you realize that words are needed (I personally would like to watch not one action, but also interesting dialogue).
And most importantly, you go for the actors. In the role of Furiosa (who was previously performed by the chic Charlize Theron) one of the main young stars and the owner of the most expressive eyes in Hollywood - Anya Taylor-Joy. I would never have thought that such a graceful, charming and somewhat aristocratic actress could play a dark and strong-willed woman, hardened by suffering and deprivation, who would fiercely fight for her freedom and the freedom of others. But Anya from the trailer makes an application for a powerful game: her Furios is still young, may be inexperienced in something, but already has a strong will, determination and desire to return home. But first she keeps silent in the gang of Dementus, and in the Citadel of the Uncountable, she impersonates a mute young man to avoid unnecessary attention and get one step closer to her goal. And finally, we see her as a warrior, the darkest of angels, who shoots and dashingly leads, and has the same firm will, and will never bow before a dictator, nor stop until she gets home.
The company is Chris Hemsworth, who played the role of the leader of the biker gang Dementus. Even in the trailer, he surprises - and unrecognizable makeup, and an unusual accent (it will be necessary to revise in the original), and in the film breaks off completely. His Dementus sees himself as an enlightened leader who is interested in the meaning of words (which in the new world seem unnecessary), seeks to establish his influence and power through cunning, while confronting the Incalculable Joe for spheres of influence, but in fact finds himself unable to control his territories and his people, and unleashes a full-scale war for power over the desert.
It is also worth noting the hero Tom Burke - Praetorian Jack: after all, we who are used to the fact that in the army of Nesmetny there are only half-life warriors and dying fanatics, and to see in this army quite a normal person is extremely unusual. But Jack is an experienced driver of a combat truck, more than once drove along the Fury Road and returned from it alive (remembering her in the previous part, even we can’t help but respect him). He takes Furiosa as his partner, teaching her everything he knows, becoming the only one she can trust in this strange and insane world. . .
Furios is a very high-quality, atmospheric and exciting action movie that no, no, but immerses in this incredible universe, where crazy bikers endlessly race along a deserted road, fight with each other for resources and for their own survival. Maybe I didn’t really like it, but I’m sure thanks to Furios, Mad Max’s universe will be replenished with fandom and (I think rather yes than not) new chapters of these chronicles will appear.
Pleasant viewing! What a wonderful day!
In 2015, George Miller made a very cool movie. It was a real paradise for the eyes, there was a lot of action, a cruel world and the cast was on top and of course the dystopia was very spectacular. It's been 9 years. . .
A lot has changed since 2015, but George Miller’s talent is amazing. At the age of 79, he returns his viewer to that very world, and of course, Furios came out a little weaker, but I will not say that it is very strong. This is also a cruel movie about dystopia, only this time - this is the story of Furiosa. It's her pain and her suffering. .
They say you don't go in the same river twice, but George Miller doesn't just go in, he swims very far. It is not easy to swim in the river, you want to dive into it. The movie begins to delight from the very beginning, no chatter, all in business. From the very beginning, the viewer is immersed in this dystopia. The world is shown the same as it was 9 years ago, but the cruelty has become even more, hatred is more, and a lot of pain it is not even physical, the rating of course should be done 18+, not 16+. The pain is psychological, it is everywhere.
Revenge is a dish to be served cold. But it wasn't just revenge. It's also like the title of the chapter: "More than revenge." It’s really a whole universe that has been frankly awaited, but it was worth it. Cruelty is shown aesthetically beautiful, filmed very spectacularly and spectacularly. In my opinion, the color is just perfect, the sound is so cool that I can still hear the roar of the engine and the sounds of gunshots. It was really great. Everything is cool with Miller and of course in terms of actors.
Anja Taylor Joy. I think she was pretty convincing. I'm really into it. The pain and hatred she had was written on her face, inclined to argue that with her role she coped very well, at times, especially from the back, reminded Furios from the film in 2015.
Chris Hemsworth. Marvel actors are increasingly playing negative roles. After this role, I asked myself, was Thor at all? Chris played a very nasty, disgusting and very hateful character and not just played, but he got into the image. You hate him in almost every episode. Of course, in the end and there was humor from him, his role was very much liked. Even the facial expressions were different. Chris surprised to say the least.
I was happy with Immortal Joe, he certainly does not have much time in this part, but he looked very spectacular, strategically very interesting thinking.
I don't remember a movie lately where you're sitting there watching the credits and there's a lot to see. Very cool.
Furios is a very interesting and spectacular film, where the viewer is introduced to the history of Furios. It wasn’t a feminist film, it was all logical and obvious. It looks on one breath, it is great to dive into it and it gives great pleasure. The tension is very much both sound, the music is made great, and the plot. Lots of close-ups. Sound and color are perfect. The acting was great. Anya Taylor Joy and Chris Hemsworth gave a lot of spectacle. And of course, George Miller's direction is on top. Locations are incomparable, in this world I want to be more and more.
What happens if nothing happens? This philosophical question, probably at least sometimes, but asked many. Since no one ever wanted to know the reliable answer to him, the scope for imagination was limitless, and he gave rise to the genre of post-apocalypse: by the way, very popular in world art. At the same time, most works of art even of this genre did not imply absolute “nothing”, including the remnants of the former civilization or variations of the new one. The Mad Max series is in some ways a purer experiment, as it shows events in a world of absolute emptiness, in this case, the Wasteland, the desert, and it is therefore very interesting. Its new part, or rather, the spin-off of Furios, does not disappear from the proposed circumstances, and, thereby, continues the glorious cause.
For some reason, it is believed that getting a person into unbearable conditions exacerbates his feelings, makes him stronger, better, more perfect than a relative living in comfort. Furios demonstrates exactly the opposite: in a world of endless desert, humanity is almost lost, and feelings are replaced by instincts. Even following a leader is nothing more than a manifestation of the animal principle, since animals have packs and their leaders. In turn, it turns out that the notorious thirst for power, with which the main antihero is the only one, is the same instinct, which has no relation to human passions and emotions. Some echoes of feelings are characteristic only of individual people, in particular, the non-native Furios, which allows us to conclude that the cruel surrounding world does not temper people, but destroys, so that people in the need for permanent survival cease to be people, in this case, literally.
"Furios" is also looking for genuine sources of strength for survival in an inhospitable world, putting in the mouth of its antagonist the reflection of revenge and rage as the root cause, as opposed to the hope that it is supposedly not capable of such. However, Furiosa is not, until a certain point, a heroine obsessed with revenge and ready to put her life on it, on the contrary, her goal, albeit not too accentuated, for most of the film and many years, is to return home - to normal. In a word, the origins of her inspiration are in hope, she is also her humanity, which allows you to experience at least the semblance of positive emotions, but not in the desire for revenge. Yes, the rage caused by hatred can save in extreme circumstances, but it is impossible to stay in it constantly: it destroys everything and everyone around, it destroys its carrier, an indirect confirmation of which, given his final speech, is the fate of the main antihero. Consequently, Furios maintains an adequate position, it prefers constructive, positive feelings to negative ones, it assumes the possibility of something worthy even in an unworthy world.
Also interesting is the curious symbolic component of the Furiosa, where the main antihero, like an ancient emperor on a chariot in an unchanged cloak, first white and then red, leads his army forward, and sends his own Trojan horse for the next battle. Human history repeats itself, but as someone has aptly noted, it is no longer a tragedy, but a farce. The future becomes the past and the past the future, and now the world is once again infinitely far from being at least partly as perfect as it once was. Alas, the plaque of civilization flies too quickly - as soon as the question of survival arises, and, alas, there is no guarantee that this attempt of mankind number two will succeed, rather the opposite.
Despite its title, Furios is not exactly about Furios, even though she is the main character. The world does not revolve around her, rather, she revolves in this world, like, indeed, everyone else, so this movie is largely devoid of any significant characters. In such conditions, Furios becomes an adaptation of situations that do not always have significant consequences, such illustrations of the biography of his heroine, superficially demonstrating her character, however, do not allow you to form any reliable idea of her inner world. Perhaps because in the desert, where there is nothing, the human personality loses its significance. Who knows? Furiosa is just a clever girl who is invited to watch from a respectful distance, but not to climb into her soul. "Furios" allows you to learn about the fate of the heroine in general terms, but not to try to truly sympathize with her.
Still, "Furiosa" is a big-budget author's movie, but not a potential blockbuster. In the presence of some depth, “Furios” still pays much more attention to its form, as a result of which the content suffers: the story of the main character is not particularly incendiary, not too consistent, and, often, very episodic than whole. Due to its sympathy for the chosen style, Furios fascinated me with its drive and reigning madness, dementia and courage, the predictable unpredictability of each next step, the blatant but somehow natural cruelty of what is happening. However, it is obvious that not everyone will like this, since the film does not tell a fascinating story, does not introduce cute characters who experience complex feelings, for many it is not even beautiful. You just have to be prepared for this: diesel punk is not for everyone.
Of course, this is primarily a story about the agenda, the cool Anya Taylor Joy, who is the strongest, who is the cunningest of all, and in general “alpha man decided” in this rotting world. True, her whole acting game is to stare at the camera with her eyes wide open. How can you show a strong female character in 24? Prescribe her interesting and ambiguous character, highlight the traditionally strong female traits? Oh, no, just make all the men around caricature imbiciles. You know what is funny, in fact, the child Furios, having escaped from captivity, suddenly becomes a brilliant mechanic, a master of all trades, a cold-blooded killer who knows how to wield both firearms and cold weapons. How did this happen when she mastered all this? The answer is likely to be something of a style: you're an abuser, if you ask questions like that, all teenage girls do that. Doubtful, but OK.
Chris Hemsworth unfortunately plays the worst version of Thor again, in his most disgusting comic form. It feels like Taika Waititi’s prank was so inspiring to director Furiosa that he decided to take on the character of Chris Torovich Klownov without changing anything. I absolutely do not understand why his character makeup, which is so striking that it looks more like cosplay.
By the way, almost all the characters in the movie look like cosplayers. Although I'm sorry, the images of cosplayers sometimes look much more realistic and thoughtful.
Very much catches the eye perfectly clean, washed, smoothed costumes of the characters. It seems as if they are not in the world of dusty deserts, but are ambassadors of some post-apocalyptic dry cleaning service.
To the technique in the film, the same questions, shining stories, without a single rusty element, on which some stuff was thrown and supposedly it should reflect the state of decline in the world. No rust, no dust and dirt, only from the car wash is visible.
Graphics in the film just to tears, in the "best" tradition of marvel. It is so striking that for me it remains incomprehensible how it was possible to release such raw graphics.
The plot is just a separate hat. For the first 50 minutes of the movie, you don’t know what’s going on. You either listen to boring and absolutely meaningless dialogues for 10 minutes, or watch a mess of graphon battles for a couple of minutes.
After the first two hours, the film turns into a series of truckers. Where Furiosa plays Sanya and Jack plays Mikhalych. And also in the film a lot of cabbage, white cabbage. It's like she's a separate character.
In short, this is a dance on the bones of the previous parts of Mad Max. In fact, Furios is a type of Max himself, strained on the female character. It turned out bad, cardboard, drawn and boring.
I watched this opus with my wife. I won’t say the movie is bad, but let’s start from the beginning.
I will not discuss the title of the film and its plot, those who are interested will see for themselves. The most important thing here are simple inconsistencies. Everything is crumpled up, and clearly the editor was told to leave everything that is. No way! Why it was necessary to show half of the film dedicated to the childhood of the main character, I do not understand. Think of Conan. Brief episodes, all to the point. Too much time is spent on the same thing. There is no logic, although this is not a movie about mathematics. Plus, from the very beginning, I didn’t see the main character’s motivation and suffering. In the first Mel Gibson movie, I felt the pain of losing a hero, I wanted to take revenge with him. Anya did not surprise me or hurt me at all. I don’t blame the actress, I blame the script. Miller decided to show ideas, but could not tell an interesting story.
The action is fine, it is there and it is normal. Okay. Now action is done everywhere, beautifully, but without a soul.
Now for the feminist agenda. I already understand that feminists are not equal to male haters. I'm married to a real feminist, and she doesn't want to kill "sneaky men" left and right. The point is different. The film shows the paradise where Anya was born - only women, everything is beautiful, and one man. And the other world is hell, where there are only disgusting men and a creepy aunt. Why? Why put all this in? Think for yourself. The post-apocalypse is the destruction of civilization everywhere. And where "paradise" - there are strong men on guard, guarding their wives and children.
The main villain is not clear to me at all, there is no villainy in him. Chris plays Thor and he doesn't look angry. Plus that hooky nose - why? Overall, the villain has to make the movie interesting, and it didn’t work out here. Sorry.
Perhaps the most normal part of the film was the love story, it was cool, but it ended quickly.
The musical series was remembered only at the very beginning, then there seemed to be a rock with a post-apocalyptic guitar, but all this was again uninteresting. I wanted to say that I made a movie on my knee (which is true). Watching a movie for $170 million and not having fun is sad. How did the focus group not say that the movie is too boring and protracted?
We live in Spain and watched in Spanish. Even though I speak Spanish, I couldn’t understand. But then I read it in Russian and realized that I understood everything correctly. The right movie is not in dialogue and action, but in a video sequence with a sound that should convey an idea, feelings, suffering. It's not here. Just boring. Sorry to keep repeating it.
I didn't get carried away. As a fan of the genre and the first parts, as well as the film of 2015, I was waiting for a strong, beautiful girl who, with her partner, with the help of wit, not strength, would avenge everyone. Love that will be carried through the film. I thought they would show the background to the 2015 film. But almost nothing, from the word at all.
I see a lot of rave reviews, but I have the impression that people don’t think when they look. Pity. A lot of fights, but they're not creative at all. Epic large-scale battles are poorly shown, the camera flies up at the beginning and then shows only mountains of corpses. Where is the battle, as in the Third Lord?
Rating R is used only to show any nasty things (worms, etc.). I don't know what it takes to get popcorn up. Why? Unclear.
In general, how Anya survived among the men is a big question for me. And with long hair. I'd know if she wasn't so super-beautiful. Men do not see how they “friend” the female population in the conditions of an anti-civilized world. That question is overlooked, that's where the violence is, R-rated. You don’t have to show the horrors that men do, but old movies show the fate of women in feudal societies. Why? Again 'feminists'...
Cars in the past parts were from the post-apocalypse, here they are like a conveyor, smooth and polished. I think that the movie about the car should be with interesting cars, creepy and monstrous. Hypertrophied engines and so on. This topic is not shown here.
Desert, where is it? In the last part of the lightning - storms, immediately as if there is nothing, once came out and clean went.
It seems that the film was not shot by the director, but by a student without experience, and then everything was smoothed out with effects. The positives are the colors of the film, the beautiful colors. Colorist respect!
My score is 5 for love line and average action. You can watch it, forget it once. Movie for the evening - yes, the movie for revision - no.
If you didn’t like my review, I love telling the truth.
Young Furiosa is kidnapped from a green paradise in the middle of a post-apocalyptic desert. Now it belongs to the vain leader of nomadic bikers Dementus. But Furios vowed to return home. . .
The first thing that is very surprising in the fifth part of the saga about the world of Mad Max is that the title actress Anya Taylor-Joy does not appear on the screen until almost the middle of the film. It’s a price for scale – George Miller wanted to cover as much of the life as possible of Furiosa, the future warrior and the storm of the desert, and as a result, we watch half the film after the girl (young actress Alila Brown, recently was on our screens in the spider’s Black Widow), and then it seems like it begins like another movie. Replacing a 'grown up' actor is an acceptable solution for the series, but for a 2.5-hour blockbuster, it's too much.
Antagonists, too. Chris Hemsworth for some reason glued a fake nose and made up as Mike Myers from the failed Sex Guru. As soon as his character - a hoodlum and a trickster - unfolds to its fullest, as here the baton is transferred to the old "good" Immortal Joe - for the first time he is played not by Hugh Kiyas-Bern, who has played this hero since 1979 (alas, not immortal, died in 2020), but by Leitchie Hulm. The heroine's attention sags between these two villainous leaders - and the viewer is understandably not ready to side with either. Furiosa herself has long stood like a silent pawn on the second line, waiting to grow up. And the question for the script is, are Immortal Joe's people so stupid that they can't recognize Furiosa, the leader's runaway bride, if she shaves her head? What about a special tattoo on the whole hand?
Miller compensates for the plot sags with chases and sand - and everything is fine with this good in the film, although it does not leave the feeling that Fury Road was cooler. But somewhere on the fifth or sixth chase, fatigue rolls in and it does not matter who is chasing whom and why. As a result, when Furiosa suddenly has an ally - Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke), it is impossible to remember where he came from and who he was for.
So this is "Furios: The Chronicles of Mad Max," half without a grown-up Furiosa and no Mad Max at all. If the franchise continues (the sequel to the spin-off prequel?), then I really want to believe that George Miller will remember that the main thing in the film is a cool story, not a set of high-quality stunt tricks.
It has been 9 years since the Road of Fury. And to miss a new part of the saga from the universe of Mad Max was impossible. But, unfortunately, for me, there was an inflated bar of expectations. If the film with Hardy pressed you in the chair and did not let you go to the final, then with Furiosa the situation is absolutely different.
The Fury Road was a trip from point A to point B for two hours. Is it possible to beat the best action film of this century? Not at all. The same is true of George Miller. “Furios” in its style is more like his previous film: “Three thousand years of desires”. This is also a collection of some legends, fairy tales about the childhood and youth of the fearless warrior, which seem to be told at night in the wasteland by the fire.
If the plot of “Rage Road” took 3 days, then the story here lasts 18 years. Miller tried to reveal the world of the wasteland more. We're finally being shown other tribes. But they all look inconclusive, and get catastrophically little development during the timing, which exacerbates the boredom of watching. Miller follows a trodden path: create another villain who is evil because he has to, lead his character through some really dark shit and make it the theme of her youth, and then culminate in a final philosophical session of mutual masturbation to find out which of the main characters is more traumatized? Sorry, but it doesn’t work at all.
The visuals and action, in my opinion, are a step behind Fury Road. I understand that the last part about Max is really hard to beat. I’m not even saying it’s bad, it’s decent. But it just lacks creativity. It is clear that the grandfather-director is 79 years old. And to suffer in the desert of Nambia, as ten years ago can no longer. Therefore, in this film, much of the scene is realized using computer graphics. But she looks, in my opinion, very pretentious. The action scenes seem awkwardly placed insertions between the weakly expressed development of Furiosa's character.
If you’re expecting to see another Fury Road, you’ll leave the theater frustrated. It may need to be revised, but without much expectation.
The epic solo prequel to the Mad Max universe about the warrior Furiosu came out weak. It’s all Miller’s action, it’s still the same composer Junkie XL, it’s all the same chases on different vehicles, but the tape lacks plot development and character disclosure. Some details remain behind the scenes, others poorly presented.
Here we have a story divided into chapters that reveals the wasteland. Again, the transition to this post-apocalypse was in the second “Mad Max” – “Warrior of the Road”, so we understand from the chronology in which order the paintings follow. But what in the “Road of fury” was a huge plus, in “Furios” decided to dilute weak storylines.
The universe of Mad Max is divided into several fortresses. Some have one important resource, others have another. We encounter Furiosa immediately, because the significance of this heroine was revealed to us already in Fury Road, but now it is a character that you do not worry about. This problem is not only Miller, but in principle it is always in all prequels. We should be told how the character from Ani Taylor-Joy became Charlize Theron. Therefore, all the dangerous moments are omitted because we know what will happen. The tape presents the main antagonist Dementus, who at first intrigues with his behavior and image. Chris Hemsworth looked good in this role. But soon his character embarks on the path of comedy, with no clear goals for the future.
It was nice to see the Immortal Joe who was shown as a strong strategist and manipulator. Only the film will begin an interesting development, as misses numerous explanations. Furiosa is a girl who survives in this world, adapts, adapts, strives to achieve her main goal. This motivator is well charged, but it is the process of survival, maturation that goes down.
It also happens in Dementus, whose wishes were first voiced, and then completely exposed from him not the leader of the gang, but a clown who does not know what he wants. First of all, he's a funny character, you don't see him as a maniac. Moreover, Goldilocks was already an antagonist in Nothing Good at El Royal Hotel, and here we have a character with no clear purpose. Second, character development is stalled. Only we had a clear chapter of how he broke his own rules. Stupid and meaningless actions.
Suddenly, the authors decided to show a romantic line. How long do Tom Burke and Anka know each other? During the transition of growing up and passing glances, the characters try to show the chemistry on the screen, but you do not believe them. The problem is also, how did Furios initially survive? She grew from a little girl into an adult woman, and this is done in the form of a simple leap. Only a small actress Alila Brown merged with the area, as after Taylor-Joy already drives gasoline trucks.
The technique of moving, chasing and attacking convoys is excellent. Of course, for more drama, the plot gives Furiosa a show, but then the previous shipments of goods do not make sense. The viewer is told that this path has already been passed many times to surprise everyone on Furios. The logic of the film is destroyed on the go, but gives us beautiful shots of the orange wasteland.
The flowercore stands out strongly, the chromakei also makes itself felt. George Miller stuck in the film and unhurried remnants of nature, and dynamic chases. There was no strong color highlight in Fury Road, and in Furios it strains when viewing. Unfortunately, viewing places is boring. The action could not cover up the stupidity and lack of motivation of some heroes. As a result, the authors even repeated some episodes from “The Road of Fury”, but at the same time carefully brought the picture to a close, as Tom Hardy’s patrimony followed.
Viewers accustomed to typical Hollywood blockbusters, clean, slick and toothless, “Furios” from the very first chapter (the film is divided into them, like a novel) beats with all its might and push. There are no superheroes in sparkling costumes: only sand and hot wind, blood and sweat, violence and death.
In a post-apocalyptic world, it is difficult to survive: all around are fringes, mutants, warriors. And a lot of crazy people say, Mom, we're all very sick. Mom, you know we've all gone mad. And how to survive in this meat grinder little girl who suddenly goes from heaven to hell?
“Furios” cannot be evaluated by the usual criteria, this epic is akin to ancient tragedies or Shakespeare’s dramas, where everything is hypertrophied, at its peak and tear. But one can only admire the diligence of director and screenwriter George Miller, who, at 79, makes films as unrestrained and energetic as his characters.
Critics grumble: they say, a little action. My question is, did you see the movie? The Furios rushes forward to the deafening roar of engines and the accompaniment of bullets and explosions so quickly that the impressive timekeeping of 2.5 hours is almost not felt. And from some scenes it takes your breath away, and a 15-minute chase-robbery in the desert flies by like an instant.
In this large-scale canvas there is a lot of rage and thirst for revenge, with an abundance of hard and unpleasant scenes (rating 18+ is absolutely justified), but at the same time there is a philosophy, and a soul, and hope that even in the most intolerable conditions and the most severe trials, you can remain a person and be true to your goal.
And, of course, this film is better to watch on the largest possible screen, to fully immerse yourself in the universe of Mad Max and, leaving the theater, gratefully look at the world and even more acutely understand how beautiful it is.
The Furios is another rage ride that is so secondary that old Miller is a little disturbing.
No matter how many Oscars Miller won for animation and tried to convince us in Three Thousand Years of Desire that telling stories is the main curse of mankind, his life (creative and not only) will always be ringed by the sand drift of Australian roads. 'Mad Max' was born as a phenomenon and years later it is unlikely that this status will lose
The new part, named after the main character, is almost a reference prequel to the last film. Fury Road once made a splash with visual effects and proved that a movie can be two hours of continuous drive, rock concert and escapist pursuit. About the aesthetics of the film about Max Rokatanski can be written scientific works, as well as about his or Nietzschean, or Freudian messages.
Not that Miller himself, by the way, was important. What news is that humanity is aimed at self-destruction, and primitive nihilism will always defeat order, let the first free. Although beautiful references to the fact that almost always there is one who in the race for eternal survival tries to art, meaning and beauty, there are in all Maxes. But this drop is so small in the world of infinite sand that you can only see it from the edge of your eye. This is also the case in Furios.
And going forward, that's pretty much what it is in Furios. The prequel suffers from the main disease of the parts that are destined to precede the main story - an annoying secondary. In fact, almost all the statics of the film (alas, but there is too much of it here) tries to reveal the already declared world. We have more time to see the cyberpunk pipes of Immortal Joe, to look from all angles at the decaying before the eyes of the Human Eater, to stay in the courtyard of the Citadel. And not to say that exposing the insides somehow helps the film. On the contrary, it routinizes the world.
Furiosa herself is working out the background here. It becomes a little clear to us about her past, we see how she lost her hand, who she loved, and what she is driven by. Although in general, all these incidents were so clear. Now we have specific faces and names. Anya Taylor-Joy as always alien (especially with a shaved head), but to play in the film, in fact, she has nothing. With a grin on every counter and irresistible revenge in the eyes copes with five and Alila Brown (Furios in childhood). .
And the dramas in Charlize Theron’s heroine seemed to be more. In some places it seems a wild truism that the character’s entire lore was eventually reduced to a thirst for vendetta. It’s not that it nullifies the character, but let’s just say it simplifies. I do not want to be sick or sympathetic to the girl here.
In addition to Furiosa in the Wastelands there is the villain Dementus played by Chris Hemsworth. The character is quality on paper, but quite dotted on screen. Is he evil? Wise man? Or just a clown? The application for duality is slightly lost in the plot incarnations of the hero. Hemsworth habitually slides down to the gags from the last Thor, then recalls the villainy and goes into the hero from Nothing Good at the El Royal Hotel.
George Miller is still good where he always is. The roar of engines, good action scenes, not much advanced from the film of 2015, but still striking with its geometry, and in the end the feeling of road without end. "Mad Max" reinforces the impression when he begins to rattle, whistle and make noise. At the average level of sound design (even outdated) for modern blockbusters, the film sags when it is silent. When he speaks, by the way, too. "Furios" must roar, this is its hidden essence.
After all, Furios is an engineering marvel conceived by Miller back in the 1980s. Be lenient. And it doesn’t matter that her teleportation to the screen happened so late and, in general, because of the desire to make something else. After all, the best that this film can give us is a sudden interest in the original parts. Maybe even the first three.
So hands on the gas, we hit the old heavy metal, and here's the road. Fury. No end.
Good movie. But personally, I still expected a lot more. We all remember the original Mad Max trilogy. Then came the “Rage Road” almost ten years ago. And now we saw her prequel - the film "Furios".
Alas, no miracle happened. Unfortunately. But purely as an action movie about post-apocalyptic chases in the desert after each other by gangs of all sorts of thugs - the film is not bad. Desert races, mutual urine and violence are quite rich here. The style of the genre is also fully observed.
Acting. Of course, everyone was beaten by Chris Hemsworth. His character, the leader of the Motor Horde, is a real scoundrel and a complete scumbag. He's quite charismatic. Anya Taylor-Joy... She is cute and not bad, but young Alila Brown was able to outplay her (performs the role of Furiosa in childhood and early adolescence).
The rest are mostly for furniture and entourage (yes, even "Pretorian" Jack and the young still Immortal Joe).
This is a synthetic epic, and its clearly Scandinavian roots stretch with us from the beginning to the very end of the picture, just like the World Tree. And that, too, has its own taste and style, but Miller allowed himself too much tolerance to tell this story. And a terrible and harsh myth turned into a fairy tale. In some places scary, sometimes naive. Plus the feminism of the worst kind that is fashionable in the West, which is especially evident at the very beginning of the film and then in its finale. Beautiful slender women are clearly better than these dirty and sweaty barbarians who only need to cut each other. Not that these ladies in clean protototoga, who even on the battlefield sometimes get up from the sand clean and well-groomed. And that's a huge minus of the picture. And the second real disadvantage of the whole story is that the genesis of the young girl into a “praetorian” is not shown. At all. Like a trach-tibidoh-tibidah, a deadly wasp hatches out of an intricate “working ant” with a dream of revenge. What, how, why? And then, in the episode where Furios acquires his famous metal hand.
But her revenge was epic. The Vikings would have liked it.
Resume: Cheerful and sometimes quite beautiful film. About the wild showdowns of wild people in the desert of a dead world. I would recommend seeing it once.
p.s.
I remembered the finale of “Tais of Athens” by I. Efremov. It was a much more real and life ending.
We are being pursued by someone competent and very vindictive.
Chasing, visual, great. But the film failed globally to tell us how Furiosa became Furiosa. It didn't work out. Instead of showing the formation of the character of the main character, we were given a two-hour exhibition for “The Road of Rage”.
Playing actors is a separate fiasco. The impression is that Miller had everything ready for filming, but in the morning not a single actor came out, and it was necessary in a hurry to look for someone this second.
Now there will be a joke about the fact that Anya Taylor-Joy in this film was flat. Excuse me. But, to be fair, it wasn’t just her. I could not believe a single word of any character. I didn't believe the Praetorian Jack, I didn't believe Dementus. Sometimes on the readings of the script people give more, honestly. No chemistry in any of the characters.
Hemsworth with red hair in the role of Dementus alternately resembled the hangover Dzhigurdu, the unsuccessful pirate from the Cleopatra Mission. Perhaps that is why the idea to turn his character from conditionally comedic to the dramatic price of a couple not to the extent of moralizing monologues failed.
I can't understand why it happened, because in other movies, these people are very good. Even at El Royale, which nobody likes but me, Hemsworth was a hundred times better than here. And Anya Taylor Joy in other roles is like a normal actress. . .
Next, there will be a number of small faults with the plot inconsistencies that forgive good films and do not forgive bad ones.
Furiosa masquerades as a boy, but suddenly finds herself a girl in front of a colleague because the wind blew away her hat. And only a parachute issued Stirlitz, yes.
But in the next scene with Immortal Joe, everyone already behaves as if they knew for a hundred years that she was a woman and no one had any questions. Well...
Speaking of hair. At first it was thought that they were needed as a storage place for the fruit seed that my mother had given. But what about the time she walked around with her head shaved as a child? Where has the bone been all this time?
And of course, over the years, while the long-suffering bone in a broken form was clinging to the hair, it not only held as if glued to the “moment”, but also did not lose its properties and quietly sprouted after 13 or how many years.

Mad Max, which I liked so much, I only watched the day before going to the movies to Furiosa. It was definitely epic, the film doesn’t explain much, doesn’t reveal the main characters, but it shouldn’t. When I saw Mad Max and the tickets for Furios were already bought, there was one hope in my head: ‘I wish they had started to put together a puzzle that wasn’t there and explain the hero’s path to Furios.’ But that's what they did.
The film tells us about the childhood and formation of the character Furiosa in the saga of Mad Max. As in a typical Marvel movie, in Furios there is an antihero-villain-adversary-bad-competitor-antagonist who does every pathetic evil and destroys the world. Our protagonist must save everyone and take revenge on the villain!
Okay, dear sagodels, if you want to play the story, why did I have three times as many questions after watching this “opening all the cards” masterpiece? One of the absurdities - the film never explained what poor - unhappy Immortal Joe did to Furiose that she decided to take revenge on him so hard. Before watching the prequel, I believed that she and Joe had a difficult past - he abused her in the harem, deprived her of an arm, etc. But in the new film about the interaction of Furiosa with Immortal Joe is not mentioned at all!
In short, I wanted to watch epic scenes of fighting in the desert on cars, and watched as a portion of shit replaced by another portion of shit.
I won’t say the film is bad, some scenes in the desert are similar to the theme of Mad Max and made at a high level. But the storyline is Marvel, which I unfortunately grew out of.
The cinema, of course, does not maintain a dizzying pace from beginning to end, but focuses all attention on the grim tragedy of Furiosa, from which comes the epic of revenge with a biblical mood.
The film devotes too much time to one period of the heroine’s life without developing her character properly. Even after the full story of Furiosa, which from a young age leads her to the path of rage, I still have no idea who this character is. In the center of attention is the real star of the film - Dementus, the character of which George Miller showed much more interest than Furios. And every time he appears on screen, he gets more attention. I have a better idea of what Dementus is, which is not with Furiosa, whose name is actually written in the title.
But I love that this prequel delves deeper into the Wasteland - I see a bullet factory for the first time, learn how the Citadel was able to establish itself as the Wasteland's power center, learn a little more about Immortal Joe's leadership style. However, there are few ideas that are truly fascinating or surprising. Furios relies mainly on familiar places and characters, leaving only a small trace of his own (with the exception of Dementus). I cannot look at this post-apocalypse in a radically new way, so the question arises – why did Miller want to tell this backstory at all?
Otherwise, the film, of course, does not cause such a strong rush of adrenaline as Fury Road, but still remains just a pleasant spectacle at:

Cool Furios: spin-off falls short of 'Fury Road' fire
Comparisons with Mad Max: Fury Road are inevitable when watching Furiosa, a spin-off and prequel to the acclaimed film. It was again led by George Miller, who directed the first three Mad Max films and then triumphantly relaunched the series. Expectations from Fury Road were understandably high. Miller's return with Fury Road was a masterful move emphasizing the importance of atmosphere, visual splendor and immersive experiences, rather than a complex plot. These films are like exciting rides, where the plot is secondary (if at all important).
In Fury Road, Miller showcased a visual and technical miracle that kept viewers breathless - a cinematic experience unlike anything seen before. Released nine years later, "Furios" unfortunately falls short of that high bar. He does not offer anything new and, as a result, does not cause strong emotions. The plot, centered around years of vengeance, is poorly implemented, and it would be better to dismiss it altogether. Characters lack chemistry, which is in stark contrast to the dynamic relationship in Fury Road.
Technically, Furios does not carry any improvements or innovations. As the credits went, I doubted the purpose of the film. Why waste money and time on this spin-off when you can revisit Mad Max: Fury Road and get the same, if not the best, experience?
"Furios" leaves you feeling like a missed opportunity, a dim addition to a franchise known for its vibrant brilliance. It’s a reminder that in the world of Mad Max, visual and technical prowess must continually evolve to fascinate and surprise, and the Furios standard unfortunately doesn’t.
P.S. Hemsworth doesn’t even try to speak his Australian English in a way that you can understand.

Everyone has their flaws. Mine is to cling to words and torment everyone with their meticulousness. So it’s no surprise that before the release of Furiosa, I revisited all previous Mad Max (20th century) and Fury Road (21st century) in particular. I like to entertain myself with fantasies and assumptions on what the plot will be built. And knowing that Furios is backstory, I found something to cling to. Redemption. It was this word that came out in response to Max’s question about why Furios was involved in a deadly race with Immortal Joe. Agree that redemption is a very intriguing word. It makes you doubt. It makes the hero complex and contradictory. It creates conflict. Both external and internal. Yes, my mistake was to cling to that word, and the mistake of George Miller (I suggest you choose): (1) put it in the mouth of Charlize Theron; (2) shooting Furiosa with Anya Taylor-Joy. Miller struggles to combine these two films and two heroines into a single universe, but sews something in the wrong place.
To begin with, George Miller is a predictable director. It's not bad, it's a given. His directing, both in terms of plot building and in the production of action, is unconditionally linear. If we talk about the plot, the best part will be Mad Max from 1979. Yes, this is a real low-budget, but made with taste and soul. The film is a simple plot, which is based on the mythological construction of the plot, when the hero repeatedly tries to avoid rock - to be absorbed in a crazy world, but in the end he catches up with him. All further parts are a pure quest, built on the motto: “If I run out of gas, I will die!” In the Mad Max universe, there was no backsliding or backsliding. It wasn't. To the Furiosa. When George Miller decided to experiment. What is the failure of 2024 for me? That I don't believe Ani Taylor-Joy could be Charlize Theron. And it's not about looks. It's about writing a character.
I can’t say the movie was boring. No, it's a very popcorn movie with an exciting visual. If you watch it, it’s only on the big screen. I liked that in Furios, Miller decided to expand on the understatements of Fury Road. So in Furios we will finally visit Gastown and Lead Farm and delve a little into the power triangle trading system. Before our eyes, a legendary truck will appear, still brilliant in the sun as a chrome lollipop. In terms of building spectacular scenes “Furios” I liked even more than “Fury Road”, they turned out to be more choreographic and sustained. Phlegmatics will do.
But there were also questions. Why would Hemsworth have false noses and teeth? Why, hiding under the guise of a boy, is Furiosa not afraid to burn herself with her hair? Why do we need an allegorical clash of systems – conditional democracy in the person of Dementus and obvious tyranny (all the same Immortal Joe), if their mutual attraction, and perhaps the sign of equality, is fixed in just one scene, and then does not develop? So is the rift in Dementus' gang that's happening behind the scenes somewhere, and the disintegration of his personality that we take for granted. Where is it all?
Questions. Without them, no artistic picture is possible. Its value determines its end. Only the final can turn all doubts into nothing, or give answers to all the accumulated questions. It’s always important to me how the movie ends. Therefore, Furios, for all its advantages, turned out to be a failure for me.
First, there will be a lot of chatter in the final. Inappropriate (although there is a more qualified person to determine inappropriateness). It feels like you have been warmed up for a long time, and when you already reach the boiling point, they sharply slow down and the flame goes out. It's so annoying. Hemsworth chatters and chatters, Anya demands the same things from him, and I can clearly see Miller's impotence to finish the film spectacularly. And as a result, it all boils down to some vulgar philosophy about seeds. And that's second. And thirdly, there will be no sins, and therefore no redemption. Furiosa is a saint, Joan of Arc of the Apocalypse. Very boring character. In place of Ani Taylor-Joy could be any other actress. It’s not about the game, it’s about having nothing to play. No internal conflicts, no overtaking fate, in her fate there is nothing remarkable. She just adapts and survives as much as she can, but she never grows up to Charlize Theron, who was so full of her eyes, that there was no doubt – it was a woman who saw hell. It's inside her.
I would have given the film a better chance if Miller hadn’t been ringing Furios with Fury Road, sewing it either way, if he had separated the two actresses playing the same role in timescales (Anja 20, Charlize 40) rather than trying to merge them. This final symbiosis is an ideological defeat, it is the murder of a character – Furiosa – who is now in my head in some borderland, or a sinner in need of redemption, or a faceless saint. Some of them will have to be crossed out. And it'll be Anya.
Let me tell you right away, this is the first film in 2 years that I will definitely review, despite some exaggerations (which I will note later), the picture is exciting and interesting, it just attracts attention with a complex and fascinating film language, impeccable camera work, stunning complex tricks, dynamic chases, monstrous cars, black humor. The work on the film was carried out at the highest level and required significant efforts on the part of the team of creators - this huge amount of effort, which is visible in everything.
Despite his age, George Miller has shown great creative form, and he seems to be getting better over the years. This picture is different from anything he has previously created. Being inherently a tragedy of revenge in the post-apocalyptic world, the film contains reflections on a more subtle level of attitude, which are imbued with the life experience and creative trials of Miller as a creator.
The director, along with screenwriter Nick Latouris, emphasizes symbolism without flirting with mythology. They honestly show what they are aware of and understand themselves; carefully, trying not to scare the viewer, the film asks questions to the audience hungry for spectacles: What unites an ironic sadistic mission and a cruel dictator? Why do we kill each other and who leads us to war? For what and for whom do we sacrifice ourselves?
The zeitgeist, militarism, political populism are read in the picture, sharp topics are scattered with crumbs that a thoughtful viewer can catch.
We see the crimson crucifix, the sacrificial cross, symbolizing the redemption and salvation of the new earthly cradle, the matriarchal paradise on the remains of the human era. Later, in the finale, the director will finish the story using the same symbolism: the prototype of the temptress will rip the fruit from a tree grown on a rotten body. Furiosa gives a peach to the chosen sisters - this scene refers to the image of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.
The young heroine loses a wig with woven bells - the heroine is freed from childhood illusions, sheds the symbol of slavery, and on the power of this act, on these relics, like a “phoenix from the ashes”, the renewed Furios is revived. Feeding revenge, she, gaining strength, through time, goes to his destination.
In this world of exuberant colors, Miller presents a new diesel-punk icon - a great one, blinded by anger to Furios.
Being a woman by nature, the author gave her all the power of male power and endowed her with prophetic meanings.
Before watching, I knew that the heroine would have supernatural survival skills and fantastic abilities, and I must admit that this is true: men with their bones will crown the path of the avenger.
But I'd like to thank George Miller for making the genocide he's done look less humiliating, and at the same time, stretchy, realistic. In his interpretation, Furiosa is a man with a female face: verbose, fearless, with a tense sullen look, does not feel physical pain, and mental suffering she transforms into testosterone fuel, so in the film she has few lines, they are dry and functional.
Furiosa symbolically refuses words, her psychogenic mutism, caused by personal tragedy, declares to the surrounding world about hidden aggression and protest. In her heart there is no place for emotions, there is only burning anger.
I confess honestly, this fragile creature, with a rough voice, thin hands and a childish face does not inspire mythological retribution, but ... Taylor-Joy perfectly coped with her role, conveying the image of the avenger as accurately as possible, and her large, childish, expressive eyes captivate with their spontaneity, hypnotize and affection.
All actors perform their roles as well as possible in this high-speed deadly whirlwind of adventure, but there is one character that stands out from all the others - it is, of course, Dementus, a sadistic antihero with a childhood trauma.
This is the best role of Chris Hemsworth in his entire acting career. Chris Hemsworth in this film really plays, it's the lead role, it's the most vivid character: witty, ironic with cruel features. In this story, he is by far the most notable - it is a brilliant benefit of Chris Hemsworth. And it seems to me that his image of Dementus clutching a teddy bear to his chest deserves a worthy place on the villainous movie olympus.
I would like to note the excellent work of designers and technical specialists who created impressive combat vehicles and bikes. This is a real work of art, and to see how this mechanical power at high speed lifts sand clubs, explodes, rams, ferociously niggles metal is fascinating.
Stunt work is just an epic mystery, it is a real film festival of the profession. The tricks in this film are unique and inventive and only the stuntman understands how difficult, difficult and dangerous it is. Of course, you can say, “It’s all special effects (VFX).” But it's not. Without the risky work of stuntmen, you can not make such a movie, and you do not want to view it through the prism of the green screen, because each scene is created with great attention and love, and this is clearly visible.
What happens on the screen easily immerses in events, captivates exciting car battles, causes emotional empathy.
This is the kind of movie that is so engaging that you want the movie not to end.
What about the drawbacks of the painting? Yes, the story is inferior to “Mad Max: Fury Road”, both in content and choice of the hero. The plot is very predictable, the twists are not astounding, the director has something to show, but he does not tell as much as he would like, leaving the details out of the box. The Immortal Joe is a functional figure who is not involved in or involved in development. The story is based on the realization of revenge, a bright antagonist and a high-speed adventure.
There are exaggerations in the film and they, in part, remind of the fantasticity of what is happening, but I forgive the master George Miller: I did not break away, I watched Furiosa all 2 hours, only a real artist and a professional who is sick with film art can do such magic.
Every universe has its own mythology. Be it fairy tales, legends or stories. They are not usually burdened with truth or consistency. Their task is to entertain the listener and reveal the culture and thinking of the people without diving into the details. So in the sandy world of Mad Max appeared his own story about Furios – Superman of the deserts, because now it is not just Mad Max 1, 2, 3, and the saga (oh!), consider the Universe.
And we can only sprinkle our heads with ashes, because this is a cultural slice of modern times, somewhat reminiscent of Ancient Rome: bread and circuses. And it is desirable that the shows had less meaning (just look at the entire production of the now so popular Netflix).
So, the picture opens with a scene where little Furios... Yes! It turns out that this is not the nickname given to her by Immortal Joe for his fierce, irreconcilable character. That's what my mom called her. Probably because she kicked her stomach a lot. So, little Furiosa in a cheap wig made of plastic hair and a computer-generated face, to look like Anya Taylor-Joy in the future, climbs a tree for nectarine (in a post-apocalyptic world!).
And here, in fact, you can put an end. After all, this skill will be enough to literally in a few years be able to drive any vehicles from a motorcycle to a giant truck, own all kinds of weapons, perform acrobatic tricks and display wonders of engineering. She will also learn to hypnotize her enemies. Everyone wants her, although she is only 10 years old, or suddenly everyone forgot about her and even at the meeting do not remember. She's also very brave and smart. After all, only a very smart woman will pretend to be a boy and grow her hair to the navel when everyone around is bald.
But let's not be sad. After all, we have an action movie, albeit science fiction. Although the first word in this adjective can definitely be omitted. And in militants, the main entertainment, chase, tension. So how are we with the spectacle in Furios? Or with tension?
If you are a fan of computer graphics level “Last Fantasy” with ragged and accelerated movements of drawn characters, then you may come. And if you like the realistic refinement of the movements of stuntmen, the element of danger from performing risky stunts, field shooting, breathtaking staging of combat scenes where people are really fighting, and not dancing computer ballet, then you definitely not here. And the level of tension can be described in one word – boredom.
George Miller, the creator and director of the Mad Max franchise since 1979, reached the pinnacle of his career and creativity with Fury Road, the perfect film in every way (see the description in the first commentary), the script for which he, however, wrote back in 1987. And perhaps this is the secret of the novelty, harmony and unlikeness of this film.
“Furios” is clearly a product of the modern era with standard story holes, slurred characters, unjustified stretching of timekeeping and attempts to tamper with modern trends in the future scenario. Or maybe it's a lot easier and a problem at the age of the director. After all, he is 79 years old, and like many other elderly mastodons, he can no longer look at his work critically.
After 9 years of waiting, we still have a new chapter in the history of Mad Max’s world.
This time we have a prequel to the events of Fury Road, namely the story of Furiosa, how she came to her fate with the Immortal Joe. And you know, that's the main problem with the picture, because we basically know how it's going to end. Yes, if suddenly there are people in the world who have not yet watched the Fury Road, then watching this tape first, and then the Road, they will get a full-fledged arch of the heroine from and to. I’m not saying that the movie doesn’t work as a full story. There is no plot here normal for the genre, and it became noticeably more than in the same Road. Apparently, old George decided to go on about the critics and give them a plot, noticeably reducing the action. New characters are memorable, although the main villain in the person of Hemsworth, in my opinion, too little used in the film. According to acting, there is no one to single out, all actors perform well. Furios is even more silent here than Max is in the Road, but that is why Anya was called here so that she could give out the emotions necessary for the stage with her own eyes. Although I agree with the same Rictus that she is too tentacle. Charlize looked more massive and clean in her image. And for me personally, this constant interruption into chapters somehow superfluous.
For many, the main disappointment will be the low number of action. Yes, it is noticeably less than in the same Road, despite the fact that there is also timekeeping for almost 30 minutes longer. But when it appears on the screen, the sensations are almost the same as from the previous tape. Grandpa Miller for these 9 years did not lose anything in terms of production and other tricks are used here, although the most memorable scene is the first convoy of the battle Fura. The only nitpicking, sometimes wild counton, no after the trailers it tweaked and became really better, but write it off on a smaller budget.
From the technical part, there are no questions for George, the film is made in the same style of the Road. Bright juicy colors, cool cars, blood and dismemberment. Perhaps just pumped up Junkie Xl, or after the last film this time the soundtrack something special is not remembered, but perhaps even listen separately.
To sum up, George went along with the critics and gave them a story. Yes, not bad, but because of this I had to sacrifice the amount of action, which is still perfectly staged. So if you were expecting a non-stop chase from the film, then lower your expectations slightly, this is still more the story of Furiosa’s formation, and the hell she had to go through before the events of Fury Road.
As a big fan of Mad Max's #39, I've been revisiting the original trilogy a long time ago.
The first two parts are dozens of times. The third one is smaller, in my opinion it is weaker. ' Fury Road' I waited with great skepticism, presuming it could only get worse... but no!' Fury Road' exceeded all expectations! She was amazing! I have been revisiting it periodically.
I was looking forward to the prequel 'Ways of Fury' - film 'Furios: Chronicles of Mad Max' Waited wary. And I was worried about the name. Why is it 'The Chronicles of Mad Max'? For the viewer to understand for sure that this is the same Furios, who first appeared on the screen in ' Fury Road'? For loyal fans, it would be enough in the title of one 'Furiosa', for all the rest - it makes sense to add 'Mad Max' if they have not watched previous films - then this will be incomprehensible?
But -- okay. Forget it.
As the name suggests, 'Furiosa' tells of the formation of Furiosa - the heroine embodied by Sherlize Theron in 'The Road of Fury'. The heroine turned out to be very multifaceted, charismatic and, of course, worth telling the viewer her story.
I went to the theater hoping to get some more of that Mad Max madness... and I was disappointed! Very disappointed!
What is Mad Max?
First and foremost, it's a wasteland. This is a wasteland that needs to be understood. Mad Max is a feeling of doom and hopelessness, when a loner stands up against the whole crazy world.
In 'Furios' it doesn't feel like it! The wasteland is teeming with life! Yes, the saturation of characters was in the first, third, and fourth part.
But in the first, there was pressure on Mad Max. In the third ... yes, I repeat again - not the most successful part, but even there was the rotting of the destroyed world. In the fourth stunning video sequence, the endless action did not give an opportunity to distract from the details, but the pressure on the characters was still felt.
Fight for survival style ' one against the whole world'.
Mad Max is a hero. No, not knights without fear and reproach - they are heroes located somewhere outside of good and evil. Anti-heroes, if you will, nevertheless, evoking sympathy and empathy. In a crazy world they are cruel, in a cruel world they are insane. Heroes, you can only guess about the internal conflict.
Furios in 'Furios' - opposite. It's open. Is she sympathetic? Compassion? No, Anya Taylor-Joy - the performer of the role of Furiosa could not show the inner conflict. There is no room for internal conflict.
Mad Max lives not only on his own, but on his own. In the second and third parts, he didn’t even need to introduce himself – only in ' Fury Road' he became a little more human. So was Furios in the same movie.
From Furiosa in 'Furios' it turned out a very direct, unpretentious character, which is full of other films. Replace the surroundings of the wasteland with any other - nothing will change at all, you can shoot another film.
Mad Max is a chase. It's drive, it's action. Stunning opening chase of the first part. 'Warrior of the road' surpassed her head. What's the opening scene worth - 20 minutes chase without a word! And no less posh final chase. In ' The Dome of Thunder' the car component greatly pumped up, but the grand chase was. ' Fury Road' - a chase in itself, from beginning to end.
In 'Furios' there are chases, but they are much inferior in scale to previous films. There is nothing breathtaking, something to stick to the screen, forgetting to breathe.
And the budget got bigger! Where did he go? Chris Hemsworth's fee? By the way, Dementus is the brightest and most memorable character in the entire film. The most controversial of all!
Instead of real shooting ' Fury Road' when the graphics were used only for the background, in 'Furios' with graphics too much. Too much with philosophy and dialogue. Mad Max didn’t need to talk to be understood – the script, the director and the actor handled it.
In 'Furios' sagging story tried to fill with conversations and fan service. Nope. No. 'Furiosa' didn't take off.
“Furios” was included in the list of the most anticipated films of 2024. Of course, there was an interest – what was the prequel “Mad Max: Fury Road”?
** You don’t have to watch Mad Max to watch Furiosa.
The plot is divided into chapters telling about the difficult childhood-adolescence-youth of the main character (Anya Taylor-Joy). The main character is kidnapped from the fertile Green Lands by members of a desert gang whose leader is the eccentric and self-confident Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). The main character and her mother were captured during an unsuccessful attempt to escape from the camp. And Furios becomes a gold exchange coin in negotiations with the patron of the Citadel.
After years of survival, the heroine learned to withstand deadly circumstances and find ways out of deadly situations. Increased revenge for the mother displaced the desire to return to their native lands.
Dementus proved himself an inept manager, barely restraining chaos and discontent in the enterprise entrusted to him. Blinded by his own ego, he craves more power - the Citadel Capture. He's a good tactician, but he's a strategist.
The film has everything that is characteristic of the entire BM saga: large-scale action scenes inherent in the crackling of metal and the roar of machines, dehumanization of people, fanaticism, cruelty.
The Furiosa line adds more drama to the saga (compared to BM). You can see that Anya Taylor-Joy stands a serious line in the action movie. But in this genre it is impossible to fully reveal.
Chris Hemsworth makes a note of comedy. It comes in comparison as a toxic arrogant version of Thor.
Overall, this is a good spectacular action. Despite the predictability of the plot twists. Impressive viewers will not be able to watch scenes with medieval executions, liters of blood and “dwellings” full of human rot. These attributes of moral decline reveal the doom of a society focused only on the satisfaction of lower needs.
I finally saw one of the most anticipated films of 2024. Advice – before watching Furiosa better refresh the memory of the film “Mad Max: Fury Road”. I would suggest revising the entire franchise.
I recommend watching the film in IMAX – cool picture, a lot of bombshell action scenes, great sound! All this completely plunges into the atmosphere of what is happening on the screen! There’s a lot going on there!
I usually divide all my reviews into pros and cons, but here, for myself, I did not see the cons. I’m going to go through the things I liked.
First of all, I was pleased with the cast, namely Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. They have done their jobs well! The actors are completely immersed in their characters, very clearly convey their emotions and energy. The character of Chris Hemsworth (Dementus) is the leader of his own army of bikers, crazy. He likes to arrange quarters of people with motorcycles, which he conducts in the form of a kind of show, feeds enemies (and perhaps not only) to his favorite evil dogs, tries to conquer new territories. Even an attempt on the Citadel of the Immortal Joe! In spite of his insanity, the character is quite comical. It often seems that conquests, attacks on convoys, massacres, he arranges only to amuse himself (in fact, it is) because he is sometimes bored. Dementus can start something crazy at any moment, and almost immediately give up on it.
Anya Taylor-Joy was perfect for the role of the young version of Furiosa! As soon as I saw her among the cast before the shooting, I immediately realized that this is an unrealistically cool and right choice! Anya masterfully handed over the sullen, fearless and vengeful Furios! Watching her every action, especially the way she drives a car or a motorcycle, was unrealistically fascinating!
I also want to mention the children’s version of Furiosa, played by Alila Brown. The girl was to show how the character changed from a small and cute girl to a child who was taken away from his entire childhood. Show all the pain and despair that little Furiosa had to go through before embarking on the path of revenge.
What can I say about the plot? Together with Furiosa, he takes us from the Green Lands to the harsh expanses of the desert, where everyone fights for their survival. A little girl finds herself in the middle of violent events. As a result, she begins to change, learns to survive in the midst of all this madness. Furiosa's main goal is to return home to the Green Lands, from where she was stolen by Dementus' bikers. All these years it is the desire to see her homeland again that leads her further, is, let’s say, her guiding star. In addition, there is a growing desire to take revenge on Dementus for what he did to her mother. And for ruining her entire childhood.
The events are very interesting to follow, they make us strain and worry about the main character (although we already know that she will survive, but still...). By the way, the story itself was divided into chapters.
I would also like to mention the very beginning of the film, which (myself) was carried into the original trilogy due to the fact that there are voiced events, during which the old foundations of the world began to collapse, and they were replaced by chaos and the struggle for survival.
It's interesting and scary to see how this has affected people in general. How are they forced to survive in such a terrible world, fighting for every drop of water, for every piece of food, living where they have to (mostly dug holes in the ground). In the film, some scenes from their lives were rather creepy and cool (I was especially frightened by the old people who live underground - a nasty scene).
Let’s move on to one of my favorite things: action. There are a lot of action scenes here! And I was delighted with most of them! Endless chases (cars, motorcycles, trucks), shootings, seizure of convoys. Of course, sometimes I felt that I was a little tired because of this abundance. But, in general, the number of these scenes is justified – after all, we have a crazy post-apocalyptic world in which, as I mentioned earlier, you have to somehow survive. Everyone uses their own way to survive. The luckier, more agile and cruel have a wheelbarrow or a motorcycle with which they travel endlessly from one point to another. They have to fight off bandits.
My favorite action scenes in the film were the capture of Immortal Joe’s convoy, during which Furios tried to escape, and the scene at Lead Farm, where Dementus set up an ambush.
By the way, without a reference to Max Rokatanski here was not enough.
Another plus – in the credits showed cuts from the movie “Mad Max: Fury Road”. It was quite atmospheric.
All in all, I’m sure Mad Max fans will be thrilled! And to be honest, I'm a little jealous of anyone who sees this for the first time. I want to erase my memory and watch this crazy movie again!
I. The Pole of Inaccessibility, or Junkie XL - Survive
Fast forward to May 14, 2015. Thursday, the day of the premiere in Russia and CIS countries of the film “Mad Max: Fury Road” by George Miller. In most regions, warm and sunny weather. There are good days ahead to go to theaters and appreciate post-apocalyptic steampunk or whatever it's called. The long-standing Mel Gibson trilogy, if people watched it, certainly not all. What a commercial for the movie! About 80% of the footage was taken live. Filming began only 18 months after the scheduled date. Some Namibian organization accused the producers of damaging parts of the desert. Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy had a strained relationship on the court. What about 9 years later, on May 23, 2024? Almost 400,000 ratings on the site, 573 reviews, 79% of them positive, cult status, 6 figurines, just one of the favorite action films of the 2010s.
II. Lessons from the Wasteland, or Junkie XL - Blood Bag
Now imagine what the father of "Babe" set himself: to remove and no worse, no easier, and even somewhere in a new way, so as not to receive accusations of self-repeat. It’s also both a prequel and an invoquel to Fury Road, but to be honest, the first one is clearly smaller, because, first of all, you have the story of Furios. Unexpectedly, the character (or the character?) Charlize Theron hooked her character, so, even removed a separate project with a large budget, large timekeeping! 168 million and ever green dollars allowed you to often and willingly use Photoshop, and 2 hours and 29 minutes - quite leisurely and carefully divide the childhood, adolescence, adolescence of Furiosa into five chapters. The plot covers 15 years, so no 2-3 days, as in the previous movie. The main conflict is based on Furiosa's relationship with the inhospitable surrounding world. So before Immortal Joe was he.
III. Stowaway, or Junkie XL - Spikey Cars
Viewers around the world will see the story of revenge. So long before the events of Fury Road, the little girl will have a serious reason to take revenge, not on anyone, but on Dementus himself. Dumb swagger appeared almost worthy rival for a pale man in a mask, being a kind of second lion in a cage with the first. Just against the background of their long-term conflict, a silent girl grows and accumulates anger to, in the end, become unrestrainedly furious for the fulfillment of the cherished desire. So, one thing is for sure: don’t expect another huge chase with a crazy guitarist like last time with Tom Hardy. Fights at speed, of course, there will be, between three points - Citadel, Fuel City and Lead Farm - now and then the characters will have to chase, but back to Furios, this is a movie about her, so get more quiet, calm, thoughtful, beautiful shots.
IV. Junkie XL - Into the Canyon
It felt like George Miller was trying to sit on a few chairs. And the fans of the "Way of rage" to please, and to give the critics of the new version for the lack of a normal plot understandable story, and to reveal the sultry character of the short-haired warrior, and to play out the endless war between two alpha. Naturally, in such a situation, a frantic pace is not to be expected. It is interesting how the audience will react this time. It will be funny if now everything turns around: the new rental will be accused of excessive sentimentality, slowness and dullness, as I wanted one continuous chase of the year. It remains to understand and forgive, to take a new approach, to realize the impossibility of entering the same river twice. With seeming perfection, a new part from the Mad Max universe does not give clarity to the relationship of the main character with the Reverend Jack, as if he were Rokatansky.
V. More than Vengeance, or Junkie XL - Chapter Doof
They start suddenly and end suddenly. Was it love, was it fraternal-sister waves, or was it an obvious mentoring mood? The same Dementus is not seen as an absolute evil, he has quite understandable motives to be in charge where possible, and yet what his past is, where he came from. Except for a few words, there is nothing on him. And his so-called war with Immortal Joe, which is pathetically advertised by the voiceover text, sweeps past a dust storm. Again, it comes down to the fact that this is the story of the formation and revenge of the cool Furiosa, while the timekeeping is not rubber. All in all, a curious experience with the goal of expanding the universe a little bit, with a full carte blanche, George Miller just tried to add a lot of detail. More possibilities, more faith, more space, more characters. I don't want to do anything. What kind of "Justice League" could he have. . .
VI. "Mad Max: Fury Road" or Junkie XL - Water
Great movie? Yeah. Are the action scenes spectacular? Quite spectacular, albeit with decent use of computer graphics. Wow, like the previous movie? Disputedly, the task was to expand the boundaries of the beloved world, and not to exceed the previously shown. Anya Taylor-Joy? Few lines and more play eyes, did not let turn in the recent blockbuster famous and loud, given here. Revenge turned out to be luxurious? Well, you're not Korean here, so the director didn't stretch the ending. In general, witness the new heavy metal without much memorable music by going to sessions in IMAX. Grandiose!! We really don't want to reconsider. Fortunately, in the credits actively flash the best shots from the “Road of Rage”, that the hand stretches ... Play that movie again. Listen to the wonderful soundtrack by Junkie XL. Oh, what a day, what a lovely day!
