The First World War in the Soviet Union was not remembered. The situation has not changed much these days. What we know about World War I today is largely based on how the war was presented in Soviet history textbooks.
Yet the significance of this great but forgotten war for the subsequent history of the world is truly enormous. The author of the film TV journalist Victor Pravdyuk decided to raise archival documents, eyewitness accounts, read diaries and letters, silent witnesses of that era, in order to present to contemporaries the history of the First World War and the exploits of its heroes as truthfully as possible. Could Russia have won that war? How would the world change if he won? What forces and why were not interested in her victory? These and many other questions are answered by the 32-part documentary The Great and the Forgotten, dedicated to the anniversary of the end of the First World War. close

In 1985, a three-part television biopic “Sophia Kovalevskaya” about the life of the first woman in Russia who became a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences was released on television.
The great Russian mathematician Sophia Kovalevskaya lived a short but bright life. She was only 40 years old (born in 1850, died in 1891), but during this time there were many dramatic events.
Everything was against her professional choice and desire to go on a scientific path. Mathematics is still considered a “male science”, which requires a special mindset that is not characteristic of a woman. But if today the teacher of mathematics in school can be an object of admiration and respect, then a century and a half ago, society imposed an unspoken taboo on the lessons of the weaker sex in mathematical science. And Sophia Kovalevskaya broke this blockade. For a scientific career, she had to solve not only complex mathematical problems, but also life problems. In this list there is even a sham marriage, which gave the opportunity to get a good education abroad.
The pages of the mother’s biography are leafed through by the daughter of Sofia Kovalevskaya, on whose memoirs the plot of the biographical tape is built. The film contains four episodes from the real history of Sofia Vasilyevna, when she was engaged in commerce with her husband, and then broke with him and became the first female academic in tsarist Russia.
Working on a painting
The dramaturgy of the script by Dmitry Vasiliu and Boris Dobrodeev is based on the attempts of Sophia Kovalevskaya’s daughter to figure out who her mother was outside of science and social activities. The female image of the great scientist in the film was recreated by young Elena Safonova. Her partners in the film were excellent actors Aristarkh Livanov (Maxim Kovalevsky), Yuri Solomin (Prince), Ivar Kalnynsh (Victor Jaclar), Elena Solovey (Anna Jaclar), Alexander Filippenko (Fyodor Dostoevsky), Lembit Ulfsak (Leffler), Algimantas Masiulis (Carl Weierstras) and others.
The film was shot at the film studio “Lenfilm” by the Leningrad director Ayan Shakhmaliyeva (in 1956 she received a diploma of the directorial faculty of VGIK, a graduate of the creative studio of Lev Kuleshov).
The music was written by Isaac Schwartz.
In 1985, the biographical tape of Soviet filmmakers “Sophia Kovalevskaya” was awarded the Main Prize at the International Festival of Multi-Series Television Films in Pianchano Therma (Italy). close

A televised story about the fate of a Russian girl, whom everyone gently calls Siberia. Once in snowy Siberia, Prince Gordov’s carriage was attacked by a pack of hungry wolves. To save his little daughter, Gordov ties her cradle to a tree, and he leaves, distracting the wolves. The girl is found by the hunter Mikhalych and takes him home.
And so begins this wonderful story. It seems to be a classic plot, similar at once to all series-melodramas about poor orphaned girls, who as a result turn out to be aristocrats. Here is the same - Sibirka, raised by a hunter, will find a noble father, mother, and sister, and true love, and family happiness. close

Publisher Valery Kudryavtsev almost accidentally gets into a secular salon, where the visiting medium - the dazzling Lydia Romanovskaya-Bogarne - gives a session of spiritualism.
During the session, the skeptic Kudryavtsev suddenly sees the divisional general of the army of Napoleon Eugène Bogarnet. It will be as bright as a flash, a vision – and from this moment on, Kudryavtsev’s life will turn into a continuous adventure for several days: a detective and a thriller at the same time. The events around him will turn into a sinister carousel. And he's going to need a lot of endurance and willpower to endure whatever comes his way these days.
He does not know that today is inextricably linked to yesterday. It all began in 1812 – with the Battle of Borodino and from the night when the French divisional general Eugene Bogarnet, sleeping in the Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery near Zvenigorod, saw in his cell the founder of this lavra, St. Sava, who had died 400 years before these events. Savva that night asked Bogarne not to ravage the monastery, and promised that then he would return home safe and sound. He obeyed, and what Saul had foretold happened to him. After Savva left the cell, in the place where he stood, there was an icon, which Bogarne found and took with him. And from this time begins the amazing story of the immortal historical relic, which influenced all who were its owner.
The fact that his life is now also closely connected with the mysterious icon, Valery Kudryavtsev began to understand only when he was captured by terrible, unthinkable events. He is betrayed by his best friend, he is accused of murder, he has to hide and act to solve many problems. He must save his daughter, protect his name, find the icon of Bogarnay, which in a strange, mystical way connects the events of the past and the present.
For the sake of this icon, very serious people lie, betray, kill, because they see only money in it. The Holy Icon has a different price. Her name is Love. And this, in the end, our hero will understand.
The history of Icon Bogarne is a small reflection of the history of Russia. When people, forgetting God, chase millions, they can only be saved the minute they stop and ask themselves: Why? No material goods in the world can replace one holy icon in the first minute of life.
The film takes place in parallel: modernity and historical events - from the Battle of Borodino to the terrible 1937. Everyone who, in one way or another, was associated with the icon of Bogarnet, will receive their own: from the Great Love to the imminent catastrophe. Depending on what a person wants to gain by touching the eternal, pure and holy. close
