Saul Rubinek was born in a German transit camp, but grew up lucky in Canada, where he began his acting career. After several years of active work at the Toronto Free Theatre, Rubinek went to New York, where he got a job on Broadway and rehearsal theaters. His performance as the best friend of a member of a religious sect in the 1981 film Ticket to Heaven (the most sectarian played by Nick Mancuso) became a worthy claim to fame, although most of the film itself was ignored. Saul Rubinek gets mostly second roles, but judging by the persuasiveness with which he plays them, he could well cope with the main one.
