Powers Booth was born in 1949 in Snyder, Texas. After carefully preparing for an acting career at Southern Methodist University, Powers spent several years in local theater before appearing on television, playing the microscopic roles of "Cruising" in 1981. The following year he won an Emmy Award for his role as Reverend Jim Jones in The Guyana Tragedy. A year later, Powers joined the “classic detective club”, receiving the role of private detective Philip Marlowe in the television series.
