Yuri Tolubeev began his creative activity as a student in 1926. He worked in several Leningrad theaters. In 1942, the actor came to the stage of the Leningrad Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin. On the stage of this theater, he brilliantly played the images of Gorodniche in the “Inspector” by N. Gogol, Polonia in “Hamlet” by V. Shakespeare, Bubnov in “At the Bottom” by M. Gorky and others. The most famous theatrical role of Yuri Tolubeev is the leader from Vs. Vishnevsky’s Optimistic Tragedy, for which he was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize.
In the movie, the actor began acting in 1935, playing his first role in the film “Perfect Year”. Among his early works, a prominent place is occupied by the characters of whole people from the people, “ordinary revolutions”, for example, in the paintings “Vyborg side”, “Man with a gun”. His best roles, which have become truly classic, Yuri Tolubeev played in film adaptations of works of classical literature: Polonius in Hamlet and Gorodnichiy in The Inspector General were a repetition of his theatrical success. All over the world, the unforgettable duo of Sancho Panza and Don Quixote created by Yuri Tolubeev and Nikolai Cherkasov in the magnificent painting Don Quixote, staged by Grigory Kozintsev, received recognition. Also interesting are the work of the actor in the films of Naum Birman - in the detective "Accident", where Tolubeev played investigator Pilipenko, and in the military film "Chronicle of the dive bomber" (Kuzmichev).
In 1976, Yuri Tolubeev was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.
