The 1941 documentary Ask Ask-Ask is a 9-minute short film released during World War II. A small film novel is organically woven into the canvas of a full-fledged art film “Combat Film Collection No. 3”. The latter is the 3rd film of a series of 13 combat film collections that became available to the viewer during the Great Patriotic War - released on the screen on August 22, 1941. “Combat film collection No. 3” eventually formed three separate fragments: “Courage”, “Antosha Rybkin” and “English anti-aircraft gunners” (thus renamed the short film “Ask-Ask” by Peter Baylis, included in the film directed by Boris Barnet and Konstantin Yudin).
Characteristics of the military short film "Ask-Ask"
"I am an anti-aircraft gunner!" With this phrase begins the short film “Ask-Ask”. The platoon commander focuses on the unity of the objectives of the gathered fighters, although they all came from different places – “the office, universities, factories”, making it clear that in the face of the enemy, all citizens are equally obliged to protect their families, their friends and loved ones, their native land. This is the main message of the film. Then there is a methodological description of the scheme of action of the anti-aircraft gun and high-precision forecasting of strategies of behavior in different cases of the enemy aircraft. The next fragment of the film is a little distracting and entertaining the viewer: describes the quiet everyday life of fighters - pool games, chess, passion for music. The climax scene is an imitation of a real night battle-fight of anti-aircraft guns and enemy aircraft. A bright artistic detail is the musical accompaniment.
