An American actress who has been nominated for an Oscar 12 times and won the award four times, Katherine Hepburn was born on May 12, 1907 in England. Her father was a urologist and her mother a feminist who led local organizations. When the future actress was 12 years old, she began to take part in amateur performances, and at the age of 21 she made her debut in the Baltimore theater. In addition, a year later she already performed in Broadway. Around the same time, she married a Philadelphia broker.

When the future actress was 12 years old, she began to take part in amateur performances, and at the age of 21 she made her debut in the Baltimore theater. In addition, a year later she already performed in Broadway. Around the same time, she married a Philadelphia broker. However, the marriage soon broke up.
It is noteworthy that Catherine Hepburn was often fired from various theaters, but then again took: too much she liked the audience, and critics were delighted with her work.
She made her film debut in 1932, when she landed a role in the film Divorce Bill. Then she signed a contract under which she was to star in a series of films. Most of them were of poor quality, but the charm and humor of the actress made them better. For some ("Little women", "Early glory") she even received awards.
This was followed by a big failure, the film “Raising Baby” was not a success at all, which was immediately blamed on Katherine Hepburn. After that, the actress decided to permanently part with film art. However, she was true to her decision for only 2 years.
She returned to the movies, starring in The Philadelphia Story. An interesting fact is that she refused the monetary fee, but demanded that she be given the rights to the film adaptation of one performance. In 1940, she played the main role, thanks to which she triumphantly returned to her acting career.
In 1942, she starred in Woman of the Year, where she met Spencer Tracy. This acquaintance radically changed her life. It didn’t just give her roles in good movies.
