Is Batman Forever? I couldn’t help it, so I wrote Batman Begins. Largely because there's just a huge wave of bigotry going on for Nolan, Bale and, naturally, Ledger. Therefore, I expect a lot of “nos”, and I think that in this regard my readers will not let me down.
For the sake of order, I can say that this film made an absolutely average impression on me. Of course, there are many reasons that I will try to describe in my review.
Like the story. At first, there is nothing supernatural. But there is a minus, even a few. For example, I don’t like phrases like “our brotherhood has existed for three thousand years, but our most important task is to destroy Gotham” or such as “only Batman will save us!” Even with all my desire and with the great desire of the film crew and distribution companies, a film with such phrases I can never mistake for a philosophical drama, fire me. I don't like the whole almighty clan thing.
Christopher Nolan. As a person who has watched few good films, I am familiar with only one picture in his filmography - "The Prestige", but remembering my impressions, I expected at least a good movie. I don’t understand why he made a comic book movie when he obviously wanted to make something meaningful. As a result, the film is not based on comics, but there is no special meaning in it, why then try, because the result came out zero? Okay, I’ll leave it on the conscience of Nolan, who now, when he made absolutely the same film and is going to do the next one, is treacherously silent.
I don’t like Nolan’s attitude toward this comic, or rather his disrespect for the previous four episodes. I understand his eagerness to do something fundamentally new, and that he took a big risk in doing it, but personally I was not impressed with his work. The comic itself means something different to me, just like its main character.
I don't understand people who say this movie is gothic. Doesn't look like it to me. Gotham is a very bright city, literally filled with the sun, but it seems to me dirty (not in the sense of lying, but in the sense of garbage), you may not agree with me, but this is what I get the impression, there are many dark places in it, which are usually called “evil”, but in this case, my language does not rise. It gives the impression that this is an absolutely real city, would not be a metropolis, and would say that it is similar to my own. But this fact in comic book movies is not acceptable to me, since comics are not based on real events, and the goal is not to teach them, but to relax, perhaps showing some worn-out morality in an easy and simple performance. So I just don't see the Nolan movies (already in the size of two) as Batman movies.
Special effects. There are quite large-scale and noticeable, but in general, the picture was quite pleasant to watch, except that listening to Batman for me is wild.
Music. This aspect frankly disappointed me. Although the composers seem to be known for their pretty good works, but I, despite the fact that I watched the film about a month ago (probably even a little less), at least kill, but I do not remember what kind of music it was. Not to mention, there was some melody playing in my head. At the same time, the music may have helped the picture, but neither of them is still remembered. So, in my opinion, in place of music, the film sagged.
About the cast. Despite his stardom, he is one of the worst in my opinion.
Christian Bale. Bad Bruce Wayne. In this film, it is clear that the writers tried to significantly increase the palette of feelings of this character, but it is safe to say that Bale crossed out all their beginnings with his stone, expressionless face. The whole Batman is enclosed in the protruding chin ala “look at me, I am more courageous than Michael Keaton”, it seems that this is the limit of the capabilities of this actor in this role, how not sorry to realize.
Michael Kane. The case is very similar to the one I have already described a little above, all the same carefully crossed out words carefully written by the writers. And this is not yet noticing my personal dislike for this actor.
Liam Neeson. I can’t say I’m excited, but I liked it more in this movie than I did in Star Wars. He played well.
Katie Holmes. This choice I will probably never understand. For me, she is mediocre, although I can’t say that I don’t like the way she usually looks on the screen. But apparently, this is not the picture, as I frankly pissed off her smile on one side, I don’t know, maybe she has some kind of injury... because I can’t imagine why do it on purpose.
Gary Oldman. His character was, perhaps, too small for me to be able to objectively evaluate him, apparently, Nolan himself understood this and decided to fix the matter for such a star in the next film. I'll say one thing, I'm for Pat Hingle.
I guess you could say I was happy with Killian Murphy. But his hero I somehow remained indifferent, apparently, still not faithfully played.
In general, I expected a lot more, and I got a movie class “Batman Schumacher” with a slightly different slant and accents. I think in principle, Batman and Robin should have stopped, not taken a break. I think you can watch the film, but it will probably be laziness to review, but everyone decides for himself.
