Lev Aleksandrovich Kulijanov was born on March 19, 1924 in Tbilisi. In 1954 he graduated from the directorial faculty of VGIK, where he studied in the studio of Sergey Gerasimov. He made his film debut in 1955 with the short film Ladies. Lev Aleksandrovich Kulijanov was born on March 19, 1924 in Tbilisi. In 1954 he graduated from the directorial faculty of VGIK, where he studied in the studio of Sergey Gerasimov.
He made his film debut in 1955 with the short film Ladies. In 1956, LevKulidzhanov, together with Yakov Segel, staged a full-length film “It Started So...” A year later, their new work, The House I Live In, attracted both audience and critics.
In the drama “When the trees were big” staged by Lev Kulidzhanov, the roles of Inna Gulai and Yuri Nikulin became a discovery, and the dramatic role of Kuzma Jordanov performed by Nikulin was one of the best in his work.
A huge success of the director was the adaptation of the novel by F. M. Dostoevsky “Crime and Punishment” (1969), in which the main roles were played by Georgy Taratorkin and Innokenty Smoktunovsky. The creative team of the filmmakers was awarded the Vasilyev Brothers Prize, and Smoktunovsky was named the best actor of 1970.
In 1979, the director staged a multi-part film Karl Marx. Young years”.
In addition to directing Lev Kulijanov for more than twenty years was the first secretary of the board of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR, and also taught at VGIK.
