He was born on February 22, 1953 in Minneapolis. His mother was an opera singer, his father was a doctor of science at the Massachusetts Institute, a great lover of modern technology. Unsurprisingly, Chang’s interests revolved around music and technology. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon College and began studying electronic music at the California Institute of the Arts.
Gary was a studio musician, collaborating with many prominent American artists, including Tom Jones, Eddie Money, and Barbara Streisand as a synthesizer programmer.
Despite his extensive experience in electronic music, his fame came after his work in film. One of the first films on which he worked as a composer, came out in 1985 – it became famous.
