At the same time, Giancarlo made his television debut as Charles Dickens in the television series David Copperfield. In 1966, on the set of Two and Two are No Longer Four, the young actor met Lina Wertmüller, a Swiss director and screenwriter, and the following year Giancarlo starred in her film Rita the Mosquito. This is where their collaboration began.
In 1968, Giannini starred in the American drama film Anzio, after which in 1969 he played the Italian villa owner in the film The Secret of Santa Vittoria.
