Italian director Lucino Visconti was born on November 2, 1906 in Milan. His father came from an aristocratic family, descendants of the rulers of Milan. He was rightly considered a theater patron. Italian director Lucino Visconti was born on November 2, 1906 in Milan. His father came from an aristocratic family, descendants of the rulers of Milan. He was rightly considered a theater patron. Luchino's mother, Carla, came from a wealthy family that was involved in the pharmaceutical industry.
Since childhood, Lukino and his siblings were engaged in music, sports and foreign languages. Luchino learned to play the cello, among his hobbies were reading Shakespeare and the La Scala Theatre. At the age of 22, Luchino takes part in the design of performances at the Eden Theatre.
Despite his hobbies, Lukino starts working in the cinema only in the 30s. His acquaintance with Jean Renoir leads Luchino to the set, where he becomes an assistant director. Working with Renoir is the beginning of Visconti’s directorial journey.
Luchino Visconti’s debut film “Obsession” based on the novel by James Caine was shot in 1942. The film tells the story of love, crime and revenge. Visconti found himself in the ranks of the Resistance and miraculously escaped the death penalty. After the war, he made a documentary in memory of the dead – “Days of Glory”.
In the postwar years, Visconti organized the first directorial theater “Elyseo” and, together with Giorgio Streler, became the founder of the directorial theater in the country. The director’s performances were unusually realistic. This characteristic feature Visconti carries in the cinema. Film
"Earth trembles" In August 1948, it was presented at the Venice Film Festival and amazed everyone with a combination of truthfulness and lyrical dignity.
In the following years, Visconti combined work in theater and film. In La Scala, the director directs Spontini’s Vestalka (1954) and La Traviata (1955) with the participation of
Alain Delon .
Among the famous works in the cinema are such films as “The Fog Stars of the Big Bear”, “The Death of the Gods”, “Ludwig”, “Death in Venice” and many others.
Luchino Visconti died on March 17, 1976. His tombstone reads: “He adored Shakespeare, Chekhov and Verdi.”
