The main director of the famous theater "Workshop P. Fomenko", the famous Russian screenwriter and director Peter Naumovich Fomenko was born in 1932 in Moscow. Since childhood he was fond of music and theatrical art. After graduating from the Gnesin Music and Pedagogical Institute and the M. M. Ippolitov-Ivanov School, he entered the theater school-studio of the Moscow Art Theater. However, after three years of training, he was expelled, as teachers considered him a hopeless bully.
Creative career so attracted Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko that he made a second attempt to get a directing education, enrolling in GITIS. Having successfully completed his studies, in 1958 he began work on productions of his own theaters.
Unfortunately, the first performances of the great director "The Death of Tarelkin", "New Mystery-Buff" were negatively perceived by censorship and removed from the stage. To date, Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko is the creator of more than sixty performances collecting sold-outs not only in domestic but also foreign theaters, among which one can mention such famous works as "This cute old house", "Old New Year", "Misanthropus", "For the rest of life", "Shot", "Blizzard" and many others.
In addition to directing, since 1981 he has been teaching at GITIS, and in 1992 he was awarded the honorary title of professor of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts. /
