A real St. Petersburg woman, Svetlana Karpinskaya, in her youth, was engaged in a drama studio (her parents, teachers, were sensitive to the development of her daughter), and once she read Pushkin’s lines “I love you, Peter the Creation!” so expressively that she struck the actor and teacher Lev Vladimirovich Shostak. He immediately offered Svetlana the main role in the production of Volodin’s play “Factory Girl”, and thanks to this Karpinskaya gained her first theatrical experience.
However, she did not want to become an actress - after the school of Light, she chose the philological faculty of Leningrad University. She dreamed of working as a journalist, but chance intervened. Eldar Ryazanov, at that time known for his film "Carnival Night", was looking for an actress for the lead role in the new film - it was
film "Girl Without an Address" . Nineteen-year-old Svetlana approved without any tests.
When the "Girl without an address" came out on the screens (the year 1957) on Svetlana Karpinskaya fell incredible fame. Unlike her heroine, the address of the actress knew everything - "Mosfilm". Svetlana Alekseevna has been keeping a bag of letters for many years - ever since she was "Katei Ivanova."
"Girl without address" changed the life of Svetlana: she seriously thought about acting career. Entering the second year at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (LGITMK), Karpinskaya almost did not study - she was given a lot by instinct. But this choice eventually turned out to be a mistake: having played with Oleg Efremov in the film “Command” (1961), Karpinskaya disappeared from the screen – her personal life and character did not allow her to continue working in the same vein. It was not only the discontent of her husband - once Svetlana Alekseevna was invited to audition after another actress was approved for the role in the film "Salute, Maria!" Karpinskaya could not agree with this approach, so she stopped going to the tests.
In the movie, the actress starred, but such success as in “Girl without an address”, in her creative fate was never again. Karpinskaya appeared in the TV film by Peter Fomenko “For the rest of her life” based on Vera Panova’s novel “Satellites”, played another prominent role in the melodrama “Sweet Woman”, and quite often appeared on Leningrad television. Here, in the film adaptation of plays and children's fairy tales, her talent found a worthy place.
The actress was married twice. In her second marriage, she had a daughter Ekaterina, besides Svetlana Alekseevna - the grandmother of two wonderful grandchildren, Mikhail and Alexei. Svetlana Alekseevna Karpinskaya is an Honored Artist of Russia, one of the leading actresses of the St. Petersburg Akimov Comedy Theater. /
