The decision to become an actor was not spontaneous for Anatoly. A good role model in the life of Mateshko was older sister Olga. It was she who, choosing the creative path of the actress, passed on her love for this profession and her younger brother. As a twelve-year-old teenager, Anatoly came to Olga on vacation, when she was a student of VGIK, it was then that he, according to him, and “infected” the acting profession for real. Anatoly Mateshko seemed simply fantastic life, in which students came to the institute at six o’clock in the morning in order to have time to review films that simply could not be seen at the box office before the lectures began. These were masterpieces of the unsurpassed Fellini, Antonioni, American Westerns, French paintings.
After all that he saw and heard, Anatolia did not want to return to the old world. However, to enter the acting faculty of the Kiev State Institute of Theater Art named after Karpenko-Kary future artist managed only for the second time.
After graduating from the institute in 1976, Anatoly Mateshko received a distribution to the Dovzhenko film studio. He could have made his debut as Smuglyan in
film "Only old men go into battle" , but at the last moment changed his mind and took another role, and the role of Smuglyanka was played by Sergey Podgorny.
All subsequent years of acting life were successful. Anatoly Mateshko received many offers from directors of different film studios of our country, playing heroes of bygone time - Komsomol members, ideological fighters, champions, athletes.
