Anatoly Azo (Anatoly Georgievich Azo) was born in 1934 in Leningrad, his birthday is October 31. If you trace the origin of his surname, its roots go to Estonia, where the grandfather of the actor was born, who in an unknown way ended up in St. Petersburg. The apartment of Anatoly Georgievich was located next to the Theater Square and was filled with handicrafts from a cap, the manufacture of which was the actor’s favorite occupation. He personally went to the forest for material, and then enthusiastically indulged in his hobby. He made many different figures, sculptures and utensils, which he then gave to his friends.
Before starting to act in films, Anatoly Georgievich worked for some time as a turner-carousel worker at the Leningrad Metal Plant. After completing his studies at the Leningrad Theatre Institute named after A. N. Ostrovsky in 1958, he moved to Pskov. It was there, in the Pskov Drama Theatre, that Azo began acting. When the troupe of this theater came on tour to Leningrad and presented to the public the production of the play “The Old Man”, young Anatoly was noticed by the assistant director of the film “Tomorrow’s Troubles”. He liked the actor so much that he immediately invited Azo to the lead role in the new film. Naturally, Anatoly took advantage of this opportunity and, having resigned from the Pskov Theater, moved back to Leningrad, where he settled in the Leningrad Theater.
Since 1960, Anatoly Azo, being an actor unit of Mosfilm, starred in many films, such as Bad Good Man, Taste of Bread, Emelyan Pugachev, and the most successful for him film is “How to Call You Now”.
The famous Russian actor died on November 25, 2007 and was buried in St. Petersburg at the Northern Cemetery.
