Alexander Shalvovich Porokhovshchikov was born on January 31, 1939 in Moscow. The great-grandfather of the actor was a nobleman, philanthropist and manufacturer, builder, owner of the Slavic Bazaar. Alexander Shalvovich Porokhovshchikov was born on January 31, 1939 in Moscow. The great-grandfather of the actor was a nobleman, philanthropist and manufacturer, builder, owner of the Slavic Bazaar. His grandfather Alexander noted in history as the inventor of the world's first tank and all-terrain vehicle. After 1917 he became a major aircraft designer, and in 1941 he was arrested on charges of espionage and shot. Fifteen years later he was fully rehabilitated. And after the arrest of his grandfather, when Alexander was only two years old, Shalva’s father, a promising surgeon, left their family. And the boy was brought up by stepfather Mikhail Dudin – a military architect who appeared in the Porokhovshchikov family at the most difficult moment.
In 1946, the whole family moved from Moscow to Magnitogorsk. As a child, the boy dreamed of becoming a traveler. But in 1957 he entered the Chelyabinsk Medical Institute and studied there until 1960. During this time he was engaged in boxing and organized a jazz band. Sasha never became a medic, leaving the third year. In 1960-1966, Alexander worked as a furniture prop at the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater, simultaneously combining work and study at the school. In 1961, Porokhovshchikov graduated from the acting faculty at the Russian Theatre Society, and then the B.V. Shchukin Theatre School in 1966. He graduated from school as an acute comedy actor, after which he was immediately invited to the Theater of Satire. Since 1971, Alexander worked as an actor in the Taganka Theatre, since 1981 - as an actor in the Pushkin Theatre. In 1994 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
