Her father, James Mayvor, a titled playwright, led a course of writers at the Edinburgh University of Neper. Her grandfather, Ronald Bingo Mayvor, before becoming head of the Scottish Council of Arts, from the 1960s worked as a theater critic at The Scotsman. Freya’s great-great-grandfather, James Bridey (real name Osborne Mayvor), changed the Scottish theatrical way of life by creating the 1950 College of Drama, the forerunner of the Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
