Film "Like the Cossacks..." (Yak Kozak...) is a musical comedy of Ukrainian filmmakers, which takes place during the reign of Empress Catherine II.
Zaporozhye Cossack Evgeny (Eugene Koshevoy) loves the local beauty Polina (Anastasia Prikhodko), who reciprocates him. However, her father, village head Mikhail Prokofievich (Alexei Maklakov), is going to marry her daughter to a more wealthy suitor - the son of Colonel Poltavasky, Venetian (Alexander Oleshko). Wanting to reassure her daughter, the hero of the comedy “Like the Cossacks...” sets a condition – he will give her to Eugene only if he brings to the village “vodka with bubbles” by the New Year – in other words, champagne.
The task at that time is practically impossible, so while Yevgeny, together with two comrades Ostap (Vladimir Zelensky) and Batey (Yuri Koryavchenkov) are traveling along the roads of the empire in the direction of St. Petersburg, where the heroes of the painting “Like the Cossacks...” hope to get champagne from the Empress Catherine herself (Nonna Grishaeva), Prokofievich offers Venice to play with his daughter. close
