Sebastian Japrisot was born in the French city of Marseille on July 4, 1931, in the family of an Italian immigrant. His real name is Jean-Baptiste Rossi. The name is derived from an anagram of his real name. The boy lost his father early, and his grandmother was engaged in his upbringing. He had a good memory and was sent to study at the College of St. Ignatius. After graduating from college, Sebastian entered the Sorbonne and, as a student, wrote his first novel “Bad Beginning”, which was published in 1950 and brought him fame.
After graduating from university, Japrizo works in advertising agencies and is engaged in literary translations. Acquaintance with producer Pierre Bronberge turns Sebastian’s eyes to cinema, and he tries to write scripts.
In 1963, the novel “The Cinderella Trap” was published, which immediately won the Grand Prix of French literature in the detective genre. Three years later, a new work is published – the novel “The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun”, which brings the author worldwide recognition and new awards.
Sebastian Japrizo begins an active collaboration with cinema, creating interesting scenarios. The most famous are
Goodbye Friend featuring Alain Delon and Charles Bronson, "Rain Passenger" and "Running a Rabbit Through a Field." In 1977, Sebastian Japrizo released a new novel, Murderous Summer. The film adaptation of the novel will later receive four Cesars (including the best original script) and make a star.
actress Isabel Adjani . A little later from the pen of Japrizo come the novels “Favorite of women” and “Long engagement”. Until the end of his life, Sebastian Japrizo continues his active creative activity.
The writer and screenwriter did not have time to finish his last novel - the disease interrupted his life. On March 4, 2003, Sebastian Japrizo died in a hospital in the small town of Vichy.
