Raymond Pauls, whose biography began in the distant 30s of the XX century, to engage in music - playing the piano - begins from childhood. Then, as a teenager, he studied at the Riga Music School.
In 1958 Pauls received a higher musical education at the Latvian State Conservatory, and already at that time Raymond Voldemarovich proved himself a professional piano performer. Together with training, Pauls plays in pop orchestras in trade union clubs, performs in restaurants where jazz compositions are played in its processing. Then the musician works in the Riga pop orchestra, conducts touring performances in the republics of the USSR - Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia. From 1964 to 1970 he became the director of the orchestra. Raymond Pauls' melodies begin to sound on radio and television.
This is followed by Pauls’ work as the head of the ensemble “Modo”, after which he was the conductor of the jazz music orchestra of the Latvian Radio and Television until 1982, and from 1982 to 1988 Pauls worked as the editor-in-chief of music programs on the Latvian radio. At that time saw the light, familiar to many, the composition “Raymond Pauls “Yellow leaves”.
In 1986, Pauls organized the famous competition “Jurmala”, through which many well-known performers passed. From 1988 to 1991 Pauls was Minister of Culture of the Latvian SSR.
