Gunar Alfredovich Tsilinsky (Tsilinskis) was born on May 23, 1931 in Riga. In 1951 he graduated from the Ogre Forestry College and in 1954 from the Theatre Faculty of the Latvian Conservatory in Riga and since 1955 worked as an actor in the Academic Drama Theatre of the Latvian SSR. In 1975, Tsilinsky became the director of the Riga Film Studio. The first role in the movie Gunar Tsilinsky played in 1958 in the film "Alien in the village" (fisherman Janis). In 1975, Tsilinsky became the director of the Riga Film Studio. The first role in the movie Gunar Tsilinsky played in 1958 in the film "Alien in the village" (fisherman Janis). The actor created on the screen images of brave, determined people, mainly in heroic adventure and detective films. For creating the image of the scout Nikolai Kuznetsov in the film “Strong in Spirit” (1967), Gunar Tsilinsky, according to a poll of the magazine “Soviet Screen”, was recognized as the best actor of the year, and also awarded the second prize at the film festival in Leningrad and in 1968 received the State Prize named after the Vasilyev brothers. In 1978, together with Via Artmane, Gunar Cilinsky played the main roles in the television film Theatre, based on the novel by Somerset Maugham. As a director and screenwriter, Tsilinsky made his debut in 1976 with the film Sonata over the Lake, based on R. Ezera’s novel The Well.
