Boris Khmelnitsky was born on June 27, 1940 in the city of Voroshilovo, Primorsky Krai. His father was a military man, his mother a housewife. The boy spent his entire childhood in garrisons. He really wanted to enter the theater school, but at first he did not dare because of a strong stutter, so he entered the music school for a Bayan course. Boris Khmelnitsky was born on June 27, 1940 in the city of Voroshilovo, Primorsky Krai. His father was a military man, his mother a housewife. The boy spent his entire childhood in garrisons. He really wanted to enter the theater school, but at first he did not dare because of a strong stutter, so he entered the music school for a Bayan course. A little later Boris decided to move to Moscow. He was greatly assisted by Wolf Messing, who was once in love with Khmelnytsky’s mother. Despite the stutter, Boris entered the Shchukin Theatre School, and in 1966 he graduated from it.
While studying at the Boris school, Yuri Lyubimov noticed and invited him to work in his theater. At the very beginning of his acting career, Khmelnitsky plays such heroes as Woland, Mayakovsky, Nozdrev. From 1964 to 1987, Boris worked as an actor at the Moscow Theatre of Drama and Comedy on Taganka. Lyubimov helped him recover from stuttering. During Vysotsky’s illness, Khmelnytsky was introduced to the play “The Life of Galileo”. Boris became the author of music for performances on Taganka and wrote for the films “On the Short Wave”, “The Seventh Ring of the Witch”. He is one of those artists who received the title of People without the title of Honored. From marriage with actress Marianna Vertinskaya, the actor had a daughter Daria Khmelnitskaya on January 31, 1978. After the divorce, the girl lived with her father.
Universal recognition came to the actor when he played Robin Hood in the film.
Robin Hood's Arrows . After this film, Boris Khmelnitsky was recognized as one of the most beautiful men of Soviet cinema. He also appeared in films such as King Stach's Wild Hunt.

"Jonathan is the bear's friend" . In 1982, he visited Hollywood. There he was offered a role for a large fee, but the Soviet authorities did not release the actor. For almost twenty years he organized concerts in memory of Vladimir Vysotsky.
The actor died on February 16, 2008 in his apartment from cancer. On February 18, he was buried in Moscow at the Kuntsevo cemetery.
