Her father Joan Severance worked as an engineer at IBM, so Joan spent her childhood traveling around the world. She lived in the Middle East for a while, and during the Six-Day War in 1967, the family had to evacuate Libya. The same year, the family settled in Texas.
At the age of fifteen, Joan started modeling to earn money for college. She was going to go to medical school to become a veterinarian somewhere in Africa, where she would start a farm to raise some small animals that could be kept as pets.
When it turned out that the money is still not enough, Joan went to the beauty pageant “Miss Houston”. She did not win, but signed a contract with the agency
Elite and went to Paris. There she spent four months and married another employee of this agency, Eric Milan (after seven years of marriage they divorced).
Of the many Joan films, our viewer, most likely, could remember only “Bird on the Wire” with Mel Gibson, where – funny as it may seem – she plays a veterinarian.
