Leslie Manville is a British film and theater actress from Brighton.
Leslie, possessing a soprano voice, from the age of eight began to take lessons in classical vocal skills, she twice became a champion among juniors in the county of Sussex. At the age of fifteen, the future actress decided to leave school and enter the theater school called Italia Conti Stage School. Her successes were tangible, and teacher Arlen Phillips decided to invite Manville to her own new dance troupe Hot Gossip, but Leslie refused.
Soon she began acting on television in TV series for teenagers, such as the serial film King Cinder directed by John Prouse, where she happened to play the role of Nikki. In 1979, the actress met the popular English film director Mike Lee. During this period, she performed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and Michael tried to find actors who were capable of improvisation.
In 1980, Leslie played the role of Lee in the BBC movie Adults. This collaboration proved fruitful, and Manville began to star with Michael Lee in five other films:
"Courtesy" .
"All or nothing," "Secrets and lies" and "Great Expectations." Leslie has worked in popular theatres in London such as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the Old Vic, the Royal Court Theatre and the Royal National Theatre.
In the future, the actress received many prestigious nominations and awards for her participation in Mike Lee’s films “Another Year”, “All or Nothing”, television films “Children of Other People” by famous film director Pete Travis and “Severe Bodily Injuries” by Joe Wright.
In 1987, Leslie became the wife of actor Gary Oldman, with whom she worked for many years in the theater on the same stage and starred in the film The Firm.
