The film explores the transformation of a red idea into a brown one. Our film is an attempt to show the psychology of communism as an idea whose blinding turns people into ruthless killers. The idea burns everything human in the Communists and for them there are no concrete living people around them, but only symbols of this idea - the classes of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, the bloodsuckers of the landlords and the unfortunate peasants. One of the most prominent representatives of the idea of communism in the world was Leon Trotsky on whose birthday the October Revolution of 1917 took place in Russia. Don’t look at the film as just a memory of the past; it’s also a warning of what happened yesterday and may happen tomorrow. . Work on the film lasted three years of filming took place in Russia Mexico USA France Austria Turkey and Ukraine. close

The author of this unique art project presents to the audience the paintings of his favorite painters of the XIX century. A panorama of artistic trends and tastes of this time will take place before us, amazing fates of artists and their heroes, the history of creating masterpieces of Russian painting will appear, a three-dimensional picture of Russian culture, especially picturesque. Thanks to a deeply personal, interested presentation of material, lively, direct intonation, the paintings of talented Russian artists will come so close to us that we will be able to hear the "music of Russian painting", to understand what was hidden from us by our, often superficial, momentary perception. And as a result, feel a sense of graceful familiarity with the unique heritage of your great country and proud awareness of yourself as a part of its great people and history! This project is undoubtedly the most important cultural and civil act, a kind of asceticism of N. Mikhalkov, contributing to the strengthening of national identity. close

This odd film is a major representative of an even odder film genre: direct-to-celluloid opera. It was commissioned by the Portuguese master of style, director Manoel de Oliveira from composer João Paes. Musically, it ranges from 19th-century romanticism to popular, modernist and even "post-modernist" styles. In the initially tame story, a host-narrator tells the story of a wedding between the two lovebirds: Viscount d'Aveleda and the beautiful Marguerite. However, what happens in the bridal chamber is incredibly bizarre. The events after that are even stranger, and the wedding guests and family indulge in cannibalism, among other perversions. close

She's a beautiful gifted performer, but her work is not the sort that invites popular acclaim. Despite the fact that she is unlikely to become famous, she enjoys her life as a performer who lives just outside the mainstream. Awaiting her backstage one evening is a Spanish painter who has seen her show and wants to make her acquaintance. They walk around Paris getting to know one another, and then the painter returns to Spain. So smitten is Lady M with her new man that when she discovers that the painter has a black wife and child, she is only a little bit taken aback and she invites his whole family to join her in Paris. Surprisingly, they do, and the number of people sharing their love and sexual appetites changes from two to three. close

In the future, national boundaries have been broken down and two giant super-states remain—the bleak, oppressive, and totalitarian "Hemisphere," and the sprawling and futuristic "Megaville." Megaville has an elected president, but the entire system is rife with corruption. All forms of media are encouraged in Megaville, but this freedom has aided moral decay with the distribution of pornography and violent movies. Outside Megaville lies the Hemisphere; whereas Megaville is clean and ordered, the Hemisphere is in a state of decay. Travel from the Hemisphere to Megaville is restricted with few exceptions to the powerful. An outwardly totalitarian regime governs the daily life of civilians in the Hemisphere and the people live in fear of the "CKS" (the secret police). All forms of media are illegal in the Hemisphere. This documentary depicts the filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky talking about his life, his loves, his career as a filmmaker, graphic novelist, and workshop leader, and his eccentricities including tarot reader and theatrical director during The Panic Movement. Directed by Louis Mouchet, La Constellation Jodorowsky includes a lengthy on-camera interview with Jodorowsky in Spanish with subtitles. Marcel Marceau, Fernando Arrabal, Peter Gabriel, Jean "Moebius" Giraud, and Jean Pierre Vignau make appearances discussing their various projects with the director. In addition to the interview and film clips, Mouchet features some bizarre footage from Jodorowsky’s absurdist plays in which topless women splattered with paint writhe around the stage in a theatrical production meant to represent The Panic Movement, i.e., an artistic expression in which reason cannot fully express the human experience. close
