Leonid Georgievich Maryagin was born on February 26, 1937 in Moscow. In the same year, his father, a writer and journalist, was expelled from the capital, and Maryagin grew up in Orekhovo-Zuev. Leonid Georgievich Maryagin was born on February 26, 1937 in Moscow. In the same year, his father, a writer and journalist, was expelled from the capital, and Maryagin grew up in Orekhovo-Zuev. In one interview, the director described himself as a "provincial from the 101st kilometer." At the age of 17 he came to enter VGIK, but because of the "troika" the composition did not pass the competition and Mikhail Romm took him to his course as a volunteer listener, at the same time he worked as a laboratory assistant in VGIK, was an assistant to M.I. Romm on the set of the film "Murder on Dante Street". After Romm left VGIK, Maryagin left the institute, and later, in 1966, he graduated from the directorial faculty of LGITMIK. After serving in the Navy, Leonid Maryagin worked in 1959-1960 at various studios, in 1960-1962 he was a director of Novosibirsk television, in 1962-1964 - assistant director of the Gorky film studio, since 1964 - assistant director, second director, director of the Mosfilm film studio, director of dubbing. Leonid Maryagin was the author of about 30 stories for the satirical film magazine "Fitile". For the television films My Street (1970) and Two on the Road (1973), the director was awarded Intervision prizes at the international television film festivals in Prague (1971, 1974). In the "big" movie, the director debuted in 1974 with the drama "The Departure is Delayed", then followed by the film "You Are Expected by a Citizen Nikanorova" (1978). His other films include Uninvited Friend (1981), Birthday (1982), City of Brides (1985), and Dear Pleasure (1988). Leonid Maryagin’s interest in history as a tragedy was manifested in his scripted films “The Enemy of the People – Nikolai Bukharin” (1990) and “Trotsky” (1993). In 2001, the director finished shooting, which due to lack of funds went seven years, the picture “101st kilometer” (according to his own script), dedicated to his youth and awarded the Second prize in the competition “Revenge” of the film festival “Window to Europe” (Vyborg, 2001). Leonid Maryagin’s last film was the film “Hello, Capital”, the editing of which he managed to complete, but the premiere took place without him – on September 17, 2003, the director died.
