Gennady Ivanovich Poloka was born on July 15, 1930 in Kuibyshev (now Samara). In 1948-1950 he studied at the acting department of the Shchepkin Theatre School. Belykh staged the picture “The Republic of Shkid”, in which the main roles were played by Sergei Yursky, Pavel Luspekaev, Yulia Burygina, Vera Titova. Then Gennady Poloka began work on the film "Intervention" based on the play of the same name by Lev Slavin, inviting magnificent actors - Vladimir Vysotsky, Sergei Yursky, Olga Aroseva, Valery Zolotukhin, Yefim Kopelyan, Yuri Tolubeev to star, but the artistic interpretation of the events of the Civil War did not please Soviet officials from art, and the picture saw the light only twenty years later. Subsequently, the director worked in various genres - he directed the adventure film "One of Us", the comedy "One Once Upon a Time".
In 1989, his film “Was Carotene?” was awarded the Vatican Gold Medal. The interest of critics and viewers was caused by the film “The Return of the Battleship”, in the creation of which Poloka also participated as a screenwriter and producer.
In addition, Gennady Poloka starred in the films “Rage”, “Castling in the Long Side”, “Prince and the Beggar”, “Affairs of Days Gone”.
