Leonid Vladimirovich Kharitonov, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, famous actor of theater and cinema, was born on May 19, 1930 in Leningrad. At school he was an active participant in amateur art. After school he entered the Leningrad University at the Faculty of Law, and in his spare time he played in the student drama club, because he loved the theater so much. In 1954, Lenya graduated from the V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko School-Studio at the Moscow Art Theatre and became an actor of this great theater.
In the same year, Kharitonov received his first role in cinema, which immediately brought him fame. It was a painting by the School of Courage, followed by the legendary
film "Soldier Ivan Brovkin" . The artist became the idol of a generation, because he created a new hero - modest, kind, sweet and unlucky.
Kharitonov was very amorous and loving, married three times. His first wife was actress Sveta Sorokin, the second – Jema Osmolovsky and the last – Evgenia Gibova. He had a passion not only for women but also for drinking. Over time, he rarely acted, getting into episodes, taught and waited for a new star role. But she never showed up. By the 80s, Leonid was almost forgotten.
The artist has always been faithful to his native MHAT. Despite the fact that in 1962 he went to the Leninsky Komsomol Theater, and then to the Pushkin Drama Theater, a year later he again appeared on the Mkhatov stage.
Leonid Kharitonov died on June 20, 1987 from another stroke. It was a dramatic period for the Moscow Art Theatre, when the theater was divided into parts. He couldn't bear it.
The artist’s tombstone at the Vagankovo cemetery is made in the form of a split stone in two, which is made in the form of a broken Mkhatov seagull and symbolizes the split of the Moscow Art Theater. It contains only two words: “Leonid Kharitonov”. And underneath, there are always fresh flowers. /
