John Lee Hancock was born in 1957 in Longview, Texas. His family was very athletic. His father won football awards and his two brothers were also keen on the game. After graduation, John first received a bachelor’s degree in English and then a master’s degree in law.
John Hancock practised as a lawyer for four years before pursuing a career in entertainment. He took an active part in theatre life and soon became a member of the Fountainhead Theatre Company. He later founded his own company, the Legal Aliens Theater Company, in Los Angeles.
John Hancock has directed such plays as Riff For Emily, Ten to Midnight, and Fulfred Beast. These works led him to the world of cinema, where he first worked as a coordinator, then as an assistant director. His independent debut as a director and screenwriter took place with the release of the film Hard Time Romance in 1991.
Fame to John Hancock came after the release of the film
"The perfect world" 1993. He was a screenwriter and the director was Cleen Eastwood. In 1997, he also worked with Eastwood on Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. This drama was based on the novel of the same name, describing real events.
John Hancock made his television debut in 1998 when he created the pilot series of a drama series called L.A. Doctors. In total, 24 episodes of the series were released, telling about four doctors practicing in Los Angeles.
In 2000, John Hancock released his first show, My Dog Skip. This is a drama that has won several awards. In 2002, he returned to directing, releasing the biographical film The Rookie. This was followed by work such as
Fort Alamo and
"Snow White and the Hunter" .
