One of the most unique and original directors in modern theater art, Roman Viktyuk was born in 1936 in Lviv. In 1956 he graduated from the acting faculty of GITISA and began his creative career in theaters of Ukraine, Lithuania and Russia.
Since 1970, for four years he worked as a director at the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre, where he staged performances that brought him fame as a theatrical experimenter, whose productions are distinguished by boldness and originality. The works of Roman Grigorievich Viktyuk of that period - "All this is not so simple", "Factory girl", "When the month comes up", "City without love", "Don Juan" - were enthusiastically received by the audience, but caused a mixed reaction of the theater leadership.
In order to become completely independent and protect his productions from censorship, Roman Viktyuk creates his own theater - "Theatre of Roman Viktyuk" - in which he unites all like-minded actors, thanks to cooperation with whom such masterpieces of theatrical art as "Maids", "Two on the swing", "Lolita" and many others saw the light. /
