Leonid Markov (1927-1991) was the son of a provincial artist. His mother was a makeup artist and hairdresser in the theater. The family often moved and the children, Rimma and Lena, grew up behind the scenes not one theater, but many. As they grew older, they went to the drama studio (where else?) and ended up on stage early enough. Both became artists. On the advice of the director of the Vologda Drama Theater, his brother and sister went to try their luck in the studio under Lencom. Both of them. And it was happiness. Although they lived for a while at the station, and then in the back of the theater. Remember the classic: "This is a glorious path for many."
At the end of the studio, both were admitted to Lencom. But Rimma very quickly found a way to the film studio, and Leonid Vasilyevich remained enthusiastic about the theater until the end, although he also starred in films, but ... did not try to break through there at all costs. Although his filmography includes 36 films, including such popular ones as Russian Field.
"My gentle and gentle beast" "Garage", "The Horses at the Crossing Do Not Change", "Red and Black", "Snakes", but the roles in them were mainly episodic, completely incomparable with his roles in the theater: Porfiria Petrovich in "Crime and Punishment", Arbenin in "Masquerade". He was appreciated in the theater.
As his sister and fellow actors recalled, Markov had a special male charisma. One of the great actors once said that acting, in fact, more inherent in women. And if a man became an actor, then in his nature, most likely, there is some feminine beginning. There are not many actors who can play real men. Leonid was perfectly able to play just such.
The famous and now popular director Roman Viktyuk at that time only "conquered" Moscow. One of his first successful works was “The Royal Hunt”. Alexei Orlov (the main role) in this play was played by Leonid Markov. The theater fans watched this show several times. And the provincials purposely came to Moscow to visit the theater of the Moscow Soviet, to see Markov as Orlov. However, the cast in this performance was all outstanding. In particular, the Impostor was played by Valentina Terekhova.
Markov for a long time was a member of the artistic Council of “Moscow Council” and, as they said, his harsh statements were afraid even the main Director.
Leonid Vasilyevich Markov died in 1991. Shortly before that, he was invited to star in a French film. He even started rehearsing, but it didn’t work out.
