For the production of "The Lion King" on Broadway, Julie Taymor was awarded two Tony Awards - as best director and best costume designer. In the movie, Julie Taymor debuted as a director with the film “Titus” (“Titus – Lord of Rome”), released in 1999. The main roles in it were played by Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange. In 2002, she staged the biographical film Frida, telling about the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo - this role in the film was played by Salma Hayek.
