I want to say thank you to the great ones for signing up for such projects, because without their participation, no one will see this, and who will not understand.
The highest aerobatics of postironia is the achievement of a state where sincerity becomes difficult to distinguish from irony. To achieve such an effect, there must be a lot of factors.
Everything here is so subtle that sometimes you want to exclaim something critical, such as “Shame!”, “You are all lying!”, etc.
The plot here is surprisingly not bad, but first of all it is a visionary film with an emphasis on emotions and visual aesthetics. Absolutely every episode in terms of aesthetics is a small masterpiece, together they combine into a completely unique roadmoove and end all this completely unexpectedly, leaving a strong aftertaste.
Trying to interpret what is happening makes no sense, because it will depend very much on subjective perception and life experience. In 20-30-40-50 years, etc., what happens will be perceived quite differently, but the fact that the emotional response will be certain.
Personally, the film took an honorable place in the tops of loved ones and mandatory for revision.

When I started watching this movie, I got a touch of morality and some old-fashioned grumbling: "Again, these Americans made a movie that molests our youth," but later began to realize that everyone who had ever been drunk to the pig's screech and danced under the moon would understand what the fuss was about. The film tells about a certain freedom on the verge of foul. That in some sense you need to enjoy every day, that earned / got free millions will not be carried to the next world, but they will help to live life more cheerfully and carefree, but have time to live while you earn them if you do not have them.
The beach slacker, of course, resembles Big Lebowski, although I still remembered one good film in which the main character and this film Saw put forward a good phrase. John Kramer once said, Imagine how it feels to be asked to sit down and told you were dying. It's very hard. The clock is coming. In a split second, the world splits. You look at things differently. There are other smells around. You'll savor everything, and a glass of water and a walk in the park. Lucky for those who don’t know when the clock will stop, but the irony is that it deprives them of the sense of life, they drink a glass of water without enjoying the taste, without feeling it. Here’s the philosophy that unites these films – enjoy every day and load yourself too much.
In general, a film for an evening viewing, or in the company of friends with a beer is the same. If you’re not an ardent moralist who lives every day on schedule, goes to the bathroom on schedule, etc., then I think this movie will come.
I also want to mention the beautiful soundtrack, the song that begins the credits I listened to 20 times. The camera work is at a height, the picture is even worthy.
P.S. I was still thinking about whether to put a rating of seven or eight, but when I saw that on the KinoPoisk six points, on IMDb generally five, then I was a little surprised, maybe I’m also a little fucked up like the character of this film. After all, somehow in an inadequate state I climbed into a small forest river in the country, where the water was knee-deep, lay on my back and a good current picked me up and carried several meters, and in the sky in height clouds float and here is an unforgettable sensation, high (not to repeat, performed by a professional).

What was that? Hymn to hedonism? Then why is he so dull and tiresome? A reincarnation of the old hippist slogan, "Let's be like butterflies," with the latest fun pills? The flight of these butterflies is very painful. The old reminder that life is meaningless and you just have to catch moments of joy without any meaning? No sense, no joy in the end. Only creativity fills existence with joy, everything else is empty hassle? Creativity is very doubtful, both the heroes themselves and the creators of the picture. A movie about the “unbearable lightness of being” seems unbearably long (and only a little more than an hour and a half), tedious. Endless fabulous twists can go on and on – and nothing will change. In one of his previous films, Mr. Loneliness, director Harmony Corin subtly mocked himself: The Greatest Doubles Show in his film ends with a performance in some Scottish shed with three and a half spectators. Corin seems to have convinced himself that success is nothing, creativity is everything. At the same time, one of the actors of his show after the failure hangs on the tree closest to the barn, giving the failed performance a new tragic meaning. Here, one of the heroines also goes to heaven as a result of a car accident “under the high”. And when he comes out of this world, he does it. Before, I lived like I sang. After leaving, she left a will that was supposed to change the life of her husband, another songbird. Nothing's changed. The endless drug-trip and poem-making “under the high” continued in “new historical conditions.” Well, they did a massive fireworks show, well, they burned $45 million in cash, but there was no celebration of the soul. Cinema freedom from all social obligations revealed the other side of freedom. When you owe nothing to anyone, you become terribly predictable and boring, like the last film of a good director.
In fact, I probably will not be able to give an objective assessment of this film, as I watched it far from sober, but, to be honest, it seemed to me only better and cooler.
Absolutely chillie movie with no less chillie protagonist - Moon Dog - a writer-party with a luxurious life full of women, money and parties. Being and living like a Moon Dog is not a cool motivation, and it will not suit everyone, but you can take something in it. The main character here is not the right person who saves everyone and everything. The main character in this work is a complete fool with a joint in his hands.
The Moon Dog, in order to receive an inheritance, must complete a poem. But all this time for his work, he gave someone else.
Although the Moon Dog does not cause the most positive emotions, there are good features in it: it is full of love for the world and brings joy to people, at the sight of it, crowds begin to crack and squeal, so it has a charging energy. It's just that he takes everything from life, and if everything he understands is to relax on the beach and go off on a breakaway, why not? This is why he is not happy.
I can’t help but note the awesome cast: Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher and others so well got used to ' Beach slacker' that the atmosphere of pofigism does not leave you until the end of the film.
The music is great, added a few tracks to Spoty.
The movie is good, that's true! So good that when I was drunk, I promised myself that I would review it sober. Do not expect deep meanings and hard thinking from this work after watching. No, the message, of course, the film carries, but watching you more relax than load.

Invite a couple of friends, a box of beer, turn on the projector Lazy and communicate.
There are many comedies (good and bad), many dramas with a thoughtful plot and painted characters, but there is also a Survivor. How many films where conversations go almost the whole picture, films where a mountain of special effects is superimposed on an easy plot. I'll stop saying how many, how many, we all know. The same films Fast and Furious are already 9.
What about movies like Beach Slacker? I personally know 3. Movies created to create vibes.
Give an example: you go to a bar with a friend or friend (maybe with several, as you like), make an order: let it be 3 light unfiltered, or 3 liquors? You think you consult your friends. Well, you got something. Let’s say it’s Friday and you want to get a good night out, your friends support your idea. You drink for an hour, and then you sing along. You begin to sing along (some of you are definitely). This music was played when you walked in, but it's turned on to create an atmosphere: to remove it, to kick the bartender out. However, when the mind is clouded, the music becomes interesting to you. Now for the movie.
Beach slacker, you can bet on a repetitive and it will spin, a few times you will stop looking at what is happening there, look at 60 seconds until your eyes hurt and go back to the argument with friends. If you get high, the movie will be interesting to you, as I said about the music in the bar, you will catch the same vibe of the film.
Harmony Corinth
A similar vibe, you can catch from the film of the same director (Harmony) – Holidays. However, there is a story about another, different colors, the mood for other aces, but the essence of the film is the same - there is no plot as such, empty characters, background viewing is recommended.
And another movie that comes to mind is Only Lovers Survive, a Jarmusch movie. Romantic Vibe provided.
To sum it up, don’t watch these movies. Turn them on like records. Played, played, played again. Or removed ' on the shelf ' then put again. These films are unique and you need to watch them in a unique way.
The rise, fall and transition into eternity of a bohemian California party-goer and talented poet named Moon Dog. A pleasant atmosphere of the spirit of hippies, beatniks, rega and resort leisure. Everything happens in the very distant past. I didn’t know Harmony Corin, but I was attracted by Matthew McConaughey. Then there's Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill. Most of the film takes place in the light melodic atmosphere of the rich, bohemian and frostbitten. Then I dilute the melody with tragic and dramatic notes. The rich wife of the main character dies and he needs to write a new book to receive an inheritance. But it's so hard to do when you're used to being a good guy stuck in the past, but a slacker desperately indulges in idleness with alcohol, drugs and women. In addition to a pleasant picture and a good acting game, the film unfortunately upsets with an empty plot and is frankly weak in the finale. We are kind of offered to understand and forgive a special and talented slob, because he is not like everyone else. But to be honest, you don’t really want to do this, and a little sadness can be mixed with mild pity. No heavy load, though. The fate of such people is too easy in life. But this, of course, is the merit of their insane attitude towards themselves and the world around them. Other madmen are drawn to the madmen, filling what is happening around with even more surrealism. They love to have fun and have rainbow music in their head.
The good thing about the film is the disclosure of the theme of modern poetry, including in its classical form of verbal expression. Periodically, the fashion for modern poets flares up, but rather quickly fades away, under the hum of recitative. Too bad.
In general, the movie from which I expected more, so I was disappointed. But if you immediately tune in to the film as a performance that gives aesthetically positive emotions, then the movie as a whole is not bad. Some of the footage is really beautiful. In everything, you can feel the spirit of art. There is nothing particularly funny about the film. It's a lot of fun, but as a comedy, I certainly wouldn't position it. The ending of the film is like a slightly crazy tale. The questionable idea is that you can do anything if you like to have fun. In this case, of course, it is desirable to be also a beloved genius.
So I can not recommend, but I will not discourage you from watching either.
More recently, in his memoirs, McConaughey wrote of sacrificing millions to disown romantic images. No, the actor treats his early creative period with warmth and respect, which brought him not only popularity, but also an impressive income, as well as satisfaction from the fact that he gives joy to a huge number of fans around the world, but fatigue from romantic comedies that came ten years ago still forced the lyceum to radically change the course in the professional field. Thanks to these changes, we have witnessed amazing acting reincarnations. What are his projects like 'Super Mike', 'Interstellar' and 'Dallas Buyers Club'! Yes, not all the works of the former hero of the lover shine strong cinematic steepness, as, for example, the same DiCaprio, suitable for the choice of roles is extremely careful and thought out, but even in his most average films, Matthew tries to give out images filled with life.
Moon dog from ' Beach slacker' turned out McConaughey specific and in many ways even repulsive' At first, it seems that we have something stuck in the 60s hippies. A young man who, due to his complete incompetence, burns through life, washing cocktails and smoking weed all day long. Oh, and we know he's a complete alphonse, a pervert and a cuckold. About the latter, by the way, not everything is as simple as it seems, because his wife really adores him, and infidelity is rather the result of long partying husband. And now it happens that the free and carefree life of the Dog comes to an end. It’s time to rethink your life, but is it possible? The song of the group Time Machines pro ' the changing world' immediately comes to mind. Probably, nothing can change when there is nothing to change, because we are all who we are, with all our advantages and disadvantages. And life always goes on. And when, after watching ' Bezelnik' you wonder what you can take out of this stoned film with crazy characters and a whole bunch of the same crazy conceptual decisions, the answer is not long in coming. You know, there's actually something. What at first caused nausea and squeamishness, in the end acquired some logical outlines with which it may not be easy to agree, but the contours of which are definitely difficult not to see.
Yes, the Moon Dog may seem as finished as we people like to say, a bastard who doesn't care. In fact, before us is a person who is maximally devoid of pretentiousness and selfishness. By and large, the dog does not bother anyone. His way of life is his concept of life that a person has the right to live as he wants. Within the law, of course. To live really fun, uncouth and diverse. Take everything from life. Give people fireworks, pick up homeless cats, love women and make them pleasant, as well as write novels and poems that conceal the depths of life. And if at first the Dog is frankly annoying, then closer to the final of the picture, the audience can treat him if not completely loyal, but with a bit of understanding for sure. Even if none of us would ever dare such a life schism, to have something against the Moon Dog, walking around the world is exceptionally fun and unbridled, would be foolish. After all, we are all architects of our lives, the main thing is that our buildings do not block the sun from others.
In dramatic terms, alas, the film is not as smooth as we would like. As it was already written above - the first half of the picture you feel to the main character, and to all the minor ones too, if not dislike, then skepticism is for sure, so all the adventures of the dog proceed without much worry for him. Plus, the mood of the tape seems uncertain - conceived, most likely, as a tragicomedy, the picture is more like a documentary chronicle from the lives of rich people who go crazy with idleness. And only by the end you begin to understand the main character and treat him as a person. Really funny episodes are also not a lot, and from those that are, blows black and even frank thrash. I enjoyed the cameo of Zac Efron and Martin Lawrence. And if Lawrence, who played a dolphin-obsessed tour guide who can not distinguish dolphin fins from sharks, looks cute, but still very ordinary, then Efron’s stinger does not strike with revelation, but reveals the actor to us somewhat differently than we used to see him on the screen. In general, all minor actors played along well with the main star of the film, sometimes causing affection.
P.S. 'Beach slacker' is definitely a passing tape with the participation of Matthew McConaughey, which, although it does not look without interest, but in general does not carry even a positive, which can boast of many, devoid of any revelations, comedy films. But his morality, despite some childishness, is honest and not biased, and this is also worth something.

A very controversial film, with one of my favorite actors Matthew McConaughey.
At first, I didn’t think to write a review, but I saw a lot of negative reviews and condemnations from local critics of Kinopoisk, which prompted me to write my very important opinion.
To understand this film, you have to be like Matthew McConaughey. If you are a correct and strict person, living your life, trying not to fall out of the channel along which your boat of life floats and in general, as the English say: 'walk the line' (As the husband of his daughter, this type is very accurately shown in this character), then the Moon Dog, in your eyes, will look like a dirty, unemployed stoner, from which there is no use but vulgar poems.
But what do we see when we look closer to him? He loves animals (The opening scene where the Moon Dog finds the cat and takes it home). He loves his mother, who comforts him after another drink, and he hugs her back. He brings people joy. As soon as he appears on the stage with his poems, immediately the people are animated and begin to rejoice in the arrival of the Moon Dog and his work. It may not be brilliant, but it brings people positive emotions, which is already worth something. At home, with his wife, he plays compositions, on the piano, and does it damn well, which shows us that he is a really talented and creative person.
Separately, I should say about his wife. She loves Moon Dog to the point of madness and believes in his creativity. When LP's daughter says he's a scumbag, his wife just explains to her that he's from another dimension, you just have to accept it. After some tragic events, life forces the lunar dog to work hard and still achieve his goal and perform a performance dedicated to Great Poetry.
What did he do stupidly? Dumb? Inappropriate? For the layman, yes, but LP is not. What is money when you can lie in a hammock, on the beach, sipping a cigarette, drinking a beer and just enjoying the sunset, and in the case of LP also write poems, the inspiration for which he takes exactly from such his bizarre, but certainly attractive lifestyle.
The scene where the Moon Dog on his boat, on complete relaxation, goes to his wife looks very beautiful. High-quality shooting of the sea, the sky - so I want to sit next to the Moon Dog, open a jar of beer, recline in the boat and enjoy life, looking at the blue of the ocean and the endless sky. In the film there is a lot of sea and beaches, which, in my opinion, is beautiful.
I must say that I watched this film five times, three times in a row and once not quite sober, but every time I got a charge of positive emotions from it.
The film is not without blunders, but it is very light and positive. For the film, very good soundtracks are selected, which is not a sin to sham. The cast is generally a separate story, how the director managed to drag them all into this film, for me personally - a big mystery.
It was after this film that I had a dream to quit my job, buy a house by the sea or the ocean and live the rest of my life as her Moon Dog lived, enjoying every moment of it and admiring the beauty of the coast.
Before 'Beach slacker' its director and screenwriter Harmony Corin shot several films such as 'Gummo' (1997), 'Julian's Assassin' (1999), 'Mr. Loneliness' (2006), 'Dumpsters' Trackers' (2009), 'Fourth Dimension' (2012) and 'Distant Holiday' (2012). Most of them do not speak to a wide range of viewers, but some have received awards mainly from the field of support for independent cinema. It is possible that this influenced Corin so much that he once allowed himself to attack the work of Quentin Tarantino himself. Then it came down like a joke, but the residue remained, because the contributions to the development of cinema from Korin and the creator ' Reservoir Dogs' and 'Pulp Fiction' incomparable. And how can you compare them even if you watch one of Corin's films, namely 'Beach slacker'?
In it, the central character is someone nicknamed the Moon Dog. He leads an idle life, settling near the ocean in a resort town, and the goal, if any, is to find booze, drugs and casual sexual relations. For money, he does not worry, he has them, because once the Moon Dog was considered one of the greatest poets of our time, coming close to the status ' genius'. But now he writes poems with disgusting overtones and only, perhaps, his wife still believes in the genius of the Moon Dog and encourages him in every possible way, closing her eyes to the fact that her husband has embarked on everything serious and is not going to get out of the alcohol-drug pool, because he liked to stay there so much. But a tragic accident gradually forces the Moon Dog to reconsider his current life values and, in spite of the haters, find himself again. . .
Enticing in the plot plan of the film, isn’t it? ' Beach slacker' is kind of a drama about a man who lost his way with parting morality about the dangers of the lifestyle of the protagonist. But Corin, apparently, considered himself no less brilliant than the Moon Dog, and decided to approach the film from the side of tragicomedy. However, it did not become a tragedy or a comedy. The latter are two three ' Beach slacker' but all the humor comes down to Moon Dog's insane behavior, his antics under the influence of alcohol or drugs, vulgar remarks and unpleasant, repulsive laughter. And when his wife appears in the frame, so ' Beach slacker' turns into a vulgar abomination. Are we supposed to laugh at that? What's the movie about? Where do censors look from ethics? Compared to 'Beach slacker' tapes a la Judd Apatow - a storehouse of righteousness and amazingly funny jokes!
But the moral is still in 'Beach slacker' there is an understanding of it coincides with the moment when the film breaks out of the strange comedic embrace of Harmony Corin and goes into tragedy mode. Takes this action about the final third of the film, but does not make it better, as the impression is already thoroughly spoiled by the beginning and middle '. And you wonder after all this, what did Matthew McConaughey forget about playing Moon Dog? After all, the actor has already made it clear that he is ripe for a serious movie and every film with his participation is at least an event, and here this immoral Moon Dog ... Maybe Matthew McConaughey decided to take a break and get back to the comedy he started with. I am not looking for excuses for my beloved actor, but I firmly tell him that this should not happen again, or then not pass him ' Golden Raspberry'. And one tiny plus ' Beach slacker' - it was nice to see Martin Lawrence again after several years of stagnation, but it looks like he's not good. . .
In general, ' Beach slacker' is a film supposedly about what you should not be like his main character, but in fact here is not ridiculed addiction to alcohol and drugs, but as if encouraged, they say, if you are talented, then everything is allowed and everything is forgiven. This is not so and you think, but what does Harmony Korin himself, the main creator of this ugliness, use? And if you are a big fan of Matthew McConaughey, then pass better ' Beach slacker' the tenth side, despite the fact that he tried to create an image, coming up with an idiotic laugh, but his character is more antipathetic and will not enter a number of the best roles of the actor for sure.

By some coincidence, the drug-hedonic writing of an eternally stoned burner of life was considered poetry by people around him. The reason, in my opinion, lay in the fact that these people were even more stupid than this slacker - purely on the principle of "who are the judges?"
The whole point of the film is to show how great it is, being rich, constantly drinking, using drugs, copulating with anyone and enjoying compliments from the morons around you.
For a long time, I was sure that the film would still have dramaturgy, the need for internal struggle and some kind of overcoming, but all that the main character had to overcome here was crushing NOTHING. For some incomprehensible reason, he always had a complete set of necessary for the continuation of his usual way of life, and even during the period when he was temporarily “pushed away from the feeder”: he never had to work a day, in every frame in his hand there was either alcohol, or cigarettes, or “both”; food for some reason he did not need, a roof over his head too. A real inner man in the face of GG did not appear for a second behind the fleur of idle life shown; an hour and a half the viewer observes a 100% irresponsible infantil.
It is difficult to understand what in such a way of life can motivate creativity, if a person does not overcome anything, if life is continuous love and benevolence. Plus, the fruits of years of continuous degradation by definition cannot be better than the fruits of previous periods of creativity (unless an idiot evaluates these fruits; according to the scenario, someone really liked the work of GG, and he was surrounded by live fans everywhere).
Needless to say, the film is a propaganda of drugs and immoral pastime. I am firmly convinced that the true target audience is 10-15-year-old children who should envy the shown being: to live in high – that is the meaning of all meanings! Fortunately, the film has not become at least any popular, and there is a chance that it will not affect anyone.
It is difficult to say that the acting was talented, because any stupid monkey can play a stupid monkey.
Conventionally, the film can be called colorful, because it is the usual standard of the Hollywood format, so that everything sparkles and continuously goes into the sunset.
I can’t categorize the film as a comedy: it didn’t cause a single smile, only continuous disgust.
Conclusion. A primitive ode to hedonism. Stupid stupid shit. I suspected it, but I did not lose hope. . .
Bravo! A brilliant psychedelic, Rastaman quest performed by the great Snoop Dogg and Matthew McConaughey! This idiotic, stoned face ' on the verge of genius' to pain as familiar and even known individuals who consider such an image of genius ' not of this world '. Mental patients often seem brilliant, that's for sure.
What, what, and similar personalities do not let you get bored and if this is a huge, ugly, inert and clumsy animal called ' physical life', ugly, allometric growth of which indicates the presence of the N-th number of owners in conflict with each other, who can not solve the issues of food, or rather which of the parts of his ugly body should be more developed - arms, legs, tail, head or still growth should be uniform: if it is ' Animal' and looks alive and meaningful, then only thanks to such fools, who do not like it from another, because they simply do not want to choose;39; they do not like it, because they don't know it from someone else, because they don't like it; 39;
And in this light, the film is truly a stunning metaphor - the plane is controlled by a blind man with a jamb in his teeth the size of an arm, another jumps to a pack of sharks thinking that they are dolphins, others think only of high, and someone does not think about anything at all. Zach Efron and Martin Lawrence, by the way, played very well. All this notorious, secured respectability has been devalued to the point of being impossible and brought to naught, which, of course, is difficult to believe, because everything looks quite stylish and respectable.
Well, who can afford it? A wonderful eccentric fairy tale with a lot of good and soulful humor. By the way, about ' Dolphins' the most poignant joke. It is necessary to reconsider again.
A manifesto of anarchism in cinemas. It's a pity it's not all convincing. . .
The moon dog is a slacker, a party man, fucks anything that moves from a woman, but also a poet. Despite the fact that he is a womanizer, he has a wife and a daughter who also marries a very right guy. And his wife left him an inheritance on the condition that he write a book.
It’s been a long time since there was such an uncouth movie in our theaters – the last time something like this happened at the dawn of the 90s, when I saw a movie with a similar name in the big hall – Beach Girls. Frivolity, optionality, mandatory marijuana, sex (however, not so unbridled) - that is what, if not sang, it is not condemned.
Unlike the girls mentioned, Harmony Korin elevates this set into a philosophy of anarchism and nonconformism. As landmarks he takes beatniks (but with a plus sign) and guys like The KLF, repeating one of their anarchist exploits. He is alien to revolution, but calls to live in his own way.
Symbolically, the dog & #39 prefers not to control life, but to go with the flow. And life is the embodiment of hedonism. This is his charm, played by Matthew McConaughey. Far from being a brilliant film - crooked and oblique in embodiment, with virtually no script, but, like its hero, in something charming and precisely sincere and not meaningless, in which it bribes merry resistance to the current militant conservatism.
Not a funny comedy. All the humor is built around laundry jokes. It looks very miserable when men touch each other for famous places to check how cool someone is.
Does anyone find this funny? Please. But I pass. I could have done that at 12-13.
Poems that the main character of himself ejects it or plagiarism or such a sloppy taste that even turns. And this very tasteless people applaud. This is elevated to the rank of achievement. I'm sorry, but in our public toilets, we often have deeper thoughts.
The main character is a degenerate and Alphonse. This is shown in the film as a special achievement and is manifested as a way to live and create for eternity. And everything ends with a happy ending, like he's handsome, in a frenzy and trips creates masterpieces that receive the Pulitzer Prize. If such people, there are outstanding exceptions who are able to create something worthwhile in such a rhythm. Most people will end up in a ditch and very quickly. Why sing this way of life from the screen, and even as a way to success, I do not put my mind.
I think if I had seen this movie at 16 years old I would have made some very interesting conclusions. This could have ruined my life.
The film is a romanticization of degradation, although the punks had a social protest, and that only a miserable decadence. Everything around the penis and its hypertrophied self. Poor. Not funny squalor.
Cinema with the meaning of the fact that everyone needs meaning
Strangely, none of the reviewers remembered Big Lebowski. I think this movie is built in part on the Coen brothers. Here is a kind of protest - the destruction of his own house, the burning of his inheritance. There are orgies. I would not call this film meaningless, just not all films should be meaningful, otherwise all the charm of impromptu, experiment, exclusive will disappear. Sometimes these three As must outweigh the craving for common sense. Rebels also have the right to rebel, otherwise stability and grayness will kill the movie. And then it will remain to watch only dull, cotton-colored films, so beloved by film critics. I got a bit of fun watching McConaughey's hero trample all the canons, while taking Pulitzer to a thunder of applause. And this is a kind of signal to stamp lovers because all masterpieces are made by hand. . .
Recently, the cinema has been popular for frank coverage of extremely dubious moral guidelines: more and more biopics about scammers and criminals of various stripes, more and more art works devoted to misanthropy and nihilism, intimate and frank nuances of sexual life, drug addiction and other wonderful things. That's where the new work of Harmony Corin - author 'Children', 'Ken Park' and 'Gummo' came in handy.
The plot ' Beach slacker' introduces the viewer to the main character Moon Dog performed by Matthew McConaughey. Mundog is a poet who enjoys fooling around with his rich wife’s money. Every day of his life is spent in the smoke of marijuana, the ocean of alcohol and in someone’s crotch. Between these life-affirming types of leisure, the hero manages to read at various events poems of his own composition, dedicated to rather global topics like morning erection. And that's basically it. Synopsis of the picture literally describes the whole film from beginning to end: the viewer will have throughout the entire timekeeping to watch the moral decay of the crazy either from life or in all possible senses of the marginal, trying to grope for inspiration at the bottom of the bottle and the tip of the jamb, interrupting for lanky hookup with anyone, at any time. Periodically he will be the company Snoop Dog. Perhaps such an allusion to the life of beatniks and would be interesting if there was some emotional breakdown or philosophical message. However, this is just a cinematic description of the everyday life of a descended drunk and a parasite, ' Labor' which is also rewarded. It's just a bad day, isn't it?

This film is a manifesto of modern hedonism. Moralists from among the adherents of the doctrines of moral suffering throughout the film expect that something will happen that will bring about a shift in the worldview of the hero. They expect from the characters the death of a loved one, or world recognition, imposing the burden of responsibility for words and deeds. And very disappointed that the main character remains as always cheerful slacker as he was before. In their opinion, there is no morality here, but only because they do not know any morality other than the morality of moral suffering.
This is a movie of what is called ' not for everyone' and I will call it legendary. To understand it, you have to catch the wave of endless partying, when you have a lot of money in your pocket, you do not have to care about anything, there is no responsibility. Through the gold of a glass of oak-flavored whiskey; with lungs filled full of cannabis sweet smoke; inhaling the white powder of amphetamines into your nostrils, from which you want to move constantly, talk constantly and live constantly, you get the feeling that you love the whole world and the world loves you. It's like mercury flowing through the veins of the city, from party to party, not knowing what's going to happen next hour, and it doesn't matter as long as there's money, women and alcohol. However, even money does not have much value, because at the end of the night, week, month, you can sit on the sidewalk between a homeless man and a prostitute, drinking small sips of scorchingly sweet cologne & #39; Bell' And at this moment, the lines of Yesenin become so close and clear:
': And when the month shines at night...
When the devil knows how!
I walk with my head hanging,
Alleyway to a familiar tavern;
The noise and noise in this lair is terrible.
But all night long until dawn,
I read poems to prostitutes.
And I'm frying alcohol with the gangsters.'
I am truly sorry for those who have never felt this.
Without amazing actors, this movie could have been just a black comedy. However, the presence of Matthew McConaughey alone inevitably turns any film into a philosophical reflection. And besides him here is Martin Lawrence ('Bad Boys', 'Nothing to Lose'), Jonah Hill ('Boys with Guns', 'Long Live Caesar'). And of course, Snoop Dogg needs no introduction.
My verdict: it is definitely worth watching at least in order to realize which of the sides of your personality prevails: the desire to live for pleasure and laugh with the main character or the desire for moral suffering and the desire for this session of cinemahedonism to finally end.
Thank you for your attention, you just watched how the icons of American show business are snorting on the shores of the Atlantic coast for an hour and a half: sniffing drugs, smoking bumblebees, fucking everything that moves, drinking, bathing in luxury and carelessness. Why? No reason! I wanted to gag the consciousness of a negligent viewer with wide blots, to sepatate, so that afterwards I could talk about a caricature of stuffy reality and other hidden meanings. It is fitting for mere mortals to drool over the unsurpassed, luxurious hedonism of creators and the American dream. While you work, exist, prepare for a better life - the bohemian enjoys every minute of it, and the dream is still alive.
The picture is disgusting with its deliberately capricious spontaneity, protruding carelessness, undisguised contempt for the established rules of behavior. The branched marijuana tree here dominates the timid shoots of creative design.
What did old Harmony Corin mean? The elusiveness of the logic of his statement reeks of an idiot. There is no repentance, no retribution, no overcoming. Mines of accidents and losses emerge extremely rarely, and are exposed with a small margin of error. The boat of Moon Dog McConaughey as if nothing had happened briskly continues to gallop the waves, and his captain, unlike ordinary people, will have something to remember. It is not a day, it is a true adventure.
The moonwalk is interesting to watch, but by itself it will not become a show, it can only be part of it. The authors of the film, seemingly interspersed with monstrous consequences for some of the characters, agree that this is an ugly in its irresponsibility story, but on the other hand continue to insist that geniuses can do everything, and there are chances, finger on finger without hitting or leaving on the baggage of past achievements, to live to the fullest. The protagonist is unchanged. How did the events described affect him? Where and why was he going? Alas, as much as we love Matthew McConaughey and sympathize with Snoop Dog and America in general, the sketch becomes a documentary propaganda of parasitism, drug addiction and a corrupt lifestyle. Colorful, fabulous, easy, but merciless in its meaninglessness. Especially from the point of view of the author, whose attitude to everything that happens has remained a mystery.
Harmony Corin is back on the screen. It is understandable why he was so beloved by film critics - people need to rest and enjoy sermons, turning their face to freedom. Sun, grass, coast - do not want to reflect in a rag chair in front of a bright colorful canvas.
A convenient position for a director, when all the tapes are similar to each other through the same tags, when most of you love that there is nothing in you except a compilation of reflections and access to less familiar polarity, when any of your work can be evaluated by clichés and the sector of audience love / discontent has long been defined, being in an unassuming framework. In this case, even impatience of waiting works – it is necessary to see the “divine” but it is not necessary to look for the miserly truth of life in it.
The slacker here is McConaughey, which is kind of a parody of his role as zeroes. And personally to break such a comedy contradictory favorite spectator character was not difficult. It is a shame, of course, that the director-actor line-up did not go beyond the limits of the internal comedy, without leaving its characters and making them cardboard frivolous symbols. On the other hand, these symbols are more wasteful than anyone else in creating history. McConaughey, nicknamed “Moon Dog” is a modern poet who curls all his misadventures into an emotional shell and offers them to the public, which is why he is allowed to deny the habitual existence of a person and turn a blind eye to the awareness of his own freedom. He will still remain a favorite only because of the naturalness and openness of his own cynicism. Caprices are forgivable.
In addition, when the second role is prepared for marijuana and all its derivatives, which serve as a support for creativity, and motivation, and the subject of adoration, which is devoted to the whole category of art, making a kitschy image of the consumption of high. Perhaps the current Corinne should be viewed from this side - mainstream about the grass, not the author's about the unconscious. It is clear that the minimalist plot, coupled with a series of amusing Hollywood celebrities, will not be able to save what is impossible to save - the attention of the average viewer. But for those who have watched the American go against it before, it will be just another form of development inside the reserve. And it does not matter that the star-striped dream will turn into a hedonistic dream, and the gentle shimmering dances of inert gases will present the narcissism of a person in the only form of real enjoyment of life.
Even to begin a discussion of such a world created for himself by Moon Dog is a never-ending bore from which Corinne seems to be increasingly trying to escape. Youth on the biological clock has long passed into courage, but the desire to become serious frightening. Therefore, the director’s swim is directed towards romantic beaches and endless vacations, deliberately neglecting equivocas in the direction of morality and conclusions. You can hear the rustle of sneakers on the sand. Most likely, the inner child of the director runs away from himself, who urgently needs to please. Only artistically and poetically - this capricious tomboy adores great beauty.

I saw McConaughey with long hair and found out that he would play a bum. “Great,” I thought, “there will be a philosophy at the level of a true detective, but in a lumpen style.” So I stubbornly did not turn off the film, although it was clear that it could not be saved.
The characters turned out to be cardboard, watching the film as if an hour or more of advertising. Cardboard hero, cardboard wife, cardboard Snoop Dog. Of the voluminous characters, you can only see a jerk from a rehabilitation center who really looks like a living, albeit ugly, person. We will not know anything about the main character - the main thing is that we do not understand why and due to what thoughts he was once great, and why he has now fallen into decline. Just a guy that everybody loves, apparently for money and for getting smoked. He agrees with everything, has no opinion and interests, floats with the flow. From his creative path it is clear that once he was an upstart - a counterculturalist and gave other people's poems for his. After he “loses everything” and hits the middle of such adventures, we also don’t see the obvious connection between his experiences and how he influenced creativity to the point where he was given a Pulitzer. The slap in the face of a “high moral society” is also not supported by any internal conflict.
The ugliest part of the film is the template Snoop Dog and Rastamans, in this part the writer’s sense of humor really failed. “I’m a pilot, but I’m 98 percent blind, I only fly where smoke leads me.” It's kind of a pity to look at them, and at McConaughey, who hung his glasses and hair so that he would not be recognized.
But there is something good about the film – it is a soundtrack with the immortal Just like heaven and other cool songs.
Conclusion: the film is a continuous imitation of the plot, the environment, the heroes, and will come only to persons in the prime of puberty. And the comparison of Kinopoisk with Lebowski is not justified by a drop.
General impression: What's this movie about? Nothing! Absolutely uninteresting, boring, unideal empty. When you promote drugs, it’s bad. It is one thing to watch a movie about drug addicts to understand that the characters have learned the lesson (as a rule, there is no second chance) that everything is not in vain. And it's another thing to serve this dish as a special dessert, poking in front of your nose, shouting "Now you'll eat from my cup!" Are you serious? How can you show a rampant life without throwing out at least some morality, even a drop of truth, that there is another side to this sloppiness!
But no, Matthew McConaughey in the role of the Moon Dog wears girl's T-shirts, stoned in junk, under a degree, hangs out all night long. A carefree life is not a burden, but can it be a burden when sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll? But our guy is not so simple, he is a “genius” poet, by the way, poems are so allegedly “good” that the Moon Dog receives a prize for his masterpieces. What is the glory of the Creator, who is the Creator? And it all looks like something beautiful. Yes, poetry is different. But what the Dog spews out of his mouth, I can not call a talented poemletting.
Cinema positions itself as a comedy, but the humor here is so much that it is easier to roll your eyes than to catch a smile. Comedy genre should work in the plot, or on the charisma of the characters, but neither.
This is an empty movie, in which there is no morality that popularizes drugs and a libertine lifestyle. There is no underside of this life, do not wait. In the coupe of all this is added a sluggish, thoughtless narrative that to examine this obscurantism was a test. So what? Does this movie deserve points? Can Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence, Zach Efron, Jonah Hill, keep this smoky stench boat afloat? No.
There is such an interesting friend – Harmony Korin. The director earned the fame of the worst or perhaps most brilliant director of the American underground, whose work, however, somehow found its way to a large audience. The bad behavior of the teenagers from 1995’s Kids was a risky way to make themselves known, but it probably established the paradigm of this unusual man’s experimental creativity, and Gummo, Julien the Donkey and other projects only strengthened his position. There is something in common in the director’s works: questions about the meaninglessness of being as such, which has reached a boiling point in “Out Holidays”. Unable to bear the imperfections of existence, Korin continued to create, and in the end something completely unnecessary came out: the miracles of life through the eyes of deranged and broken people, whose gaze nevertheless shows that life is worth losing. This sounds, of course, not so depressing, especially in the context of his new film called “Beach slacker” (or, as the original name sounds, “Beach bum”), and yet the film falls into the stream of creativity Corin: too unusual to miss, but also too incomprehensible and illogical to admire.
Long ago, the man with the prosaic name Moon Dog was the most famous poet in the United States: his works amazed the routine masses with his view of the world. Today, Moon Dog is unkempt and lost in the mazes of a drug dope. On the other hand, the man lives happily around the neck of his millionaire wife. When tragedy strikes, the Moon Dog is on the street... but, as the annotation goes, is it worth it?
Really not, because the most important distinguishing element of the “Vezelnik”, which can be interpreted as a plus and a minus of the picture, is the lack of plot. Harmony Korin assumes responsibility for ... not writing the script, and “The Bezelnik” is still not a thoughtless set of scenes: still some concept is quite visible, and the movement on the plot forward is quite logically justified. The viewer, thanks to Corin, simply follows Moon Dog from the wrong place, studying his reaction to everything that gets in his way: from a tiny kitten to another crazy party. The process of watching the film is so simple that “The Beach Lazy” can be turned on in the background: if you distract and return after a while, then it is unlikely that in general something can be missed.
Part of the adventures of the swam and drunken McConaughey cause laughter, although some of them are quite boring. The dark and rotten marine world of Florida is transmitted by faded motels and bars, and the Moon Dog is an inhabitant of this almost otherworldly universe. There's no doubt he lives for parties. Alas, to milk from such installation Corin nothing special failed. On the other hand, the creators refused to challenge the standard paths from the category of “mud to princes” or even delve into the caricature. Strictly speaking, the characters here are not as simple as it seems: it is not for nothing that Zac Efron, Jonah Hill and Martin Lawrence took part in the project. And, interestingly, all their characters are united by a common property: it is very difficult to recognize the actors in their images. Only Snoop Dog stands out against their background, however, he is the same eccentric hero, just plays here, in fact, himself.
Despite all the comic-surreal adventures Moon Dog experiences with each of the colorful characters from his social circle, Beach Bummer eventually begins to test the patience of a conservative viewer. It’s okay to be unemployed and lazy and still be happy. However, Corinne whitewashes his character too much: for most of the film, there's probably only one point in which his lifestyle lends itself to criticism. Sharm McConaughey does his thing, but somehow his carefree existence is far from other anarchists from the world of cinema. Too ordinary Moon Dog on the film; it seems there is no highlight that makes you feel the life of his hero and go homeless on free bread.
It’s like being at a raucous party that you weren’t invited to – that’s what “The Beach Bummer” feels like. It’s by no means a bad movie, and McConaughey has one of the best performances of his career (not to mention that Moon Dog is probably Jeffrey “Dude” Lebowski’s main competition), although stories about life as a party can be boring. An outrageous and hedonistic project about how you can lose everything that was expensive overnight could be presented in a more adequate form: for some reason, another cinematic excess that does not set itself a goal to please the viewer (such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which will immediately come to mind movie fans), has, oddly enough, a more specific conceptual direction. The sharp edges of The Beach Lazy are flattened, though it is undeniable that Captain Harmony Corin is on the right track: without him and, of course, without Matthew McConaughey, this film would be nothing more than cinematic ruins of common sense. In the meantime... vivivi Florida!
The trailer left mixed feelings. Colorful, but not clear. Age hippie, Snoop Dog, the ocean, a bunch of skate girls in swimsuits, the atmosphere of the incessant party, but what is the film about? The low price and close location of the cinema forced to visit the premiere and solve the mystery. Interest warmed up the designated genre as a comedy. In the course of the film, not once, and not twice, the question “what is the essence?”
It's not really. It's a movie mood. The main thing is not the plot, but the atmosphere. The atmosphere of a tropical coastal evening saturated with ocean scents and cannabis smoke. The main character, a hybrid of Henry Chynaski from the books of Bukowski and the Dude from Big Lebowski, cozys up with various acquaintances, drinks everything that burns, smokes everything that smokes, copulates with those who move, dresses in women's clothes, disfigures, reads poetry and in every way gets high. This is a two-sentence spoiler.
The movie is eerily superficial, but just as colorful. In other words, on one nice viewing.
A rough film, but definitely worth watching for everyone who the name Harmony Corina at least says something. Anyway, to stay away and not to be imbued with the film will not work.
The ageless American poet Moon Dog lives for his own pleasure, aggressively abuses alcohol and marijuana, lives in an open marriage with a beautiful millionaire, befriends the coolest bohemian characters.
I just haven’t been writing anything lately. That is, before the loose lifestyle fueled creativity, and now with creativity is not very, and by and large, only rampant succeeds.
Normal is such an irresponsible, unearthly character who doesn't care much about the material until he's taken care of.
At some point, the source of income disappears for a tragic reason, and the Moon Dog finds himself in the real world. Of course, it’s more like a terrible dream – all those false episodes with a rehabilitation center, trying to work on a tourist boat, regular slaps from a literary agent, escaping on a plane with a blind pilot.
These episodes of “real life” are so stupid and inappropriate that when the hero safely returns to the world of excitement, you can exhale, the normal rhythm returns, and the chimeras of reality are much creepier than the uniform arrival.
Reality is like a bad dream.
McConaughey is not the first to play such crazy types - at least Surfer Dude casually comes to mind, but a bold role, of course. I did my best. Considering that it was shot somewhere plus or minus with Sea of Tranquility and White Boy Rick, it was like 3 different people were filming. And, right, McConaughey is the one who smiles the most.
A lot of good camera feeds: so beautifully all smoke dope, drink cheap beer, indulge in vice and joy. A bright sunny picture, smart stylish people.
Strange campaign at the box office – as in the Separate Holiday – “crazy comedy” and so on. Comedy is funny. On the other hand, maybe some money distributors such a scam earn – and the next Corin will buy for hire.
The new film directed and screenwriter Harmony Korin “Beach bum” in the genre of “Stoned” (smoked) can scare away many – with its immorality and promotion of an unhealthy lifestyle. None of this is at all true. The film is incredibly light and fun. He makes you think about things like the meaning of life, his legacy, a different pace of life.
We plunge into the carefree life of Moondog performed by the wonderful Matthew McConaughey. He lives carefree and promiscuous. He's a favorite of the local beachgoers. Poet. He performs at various parties, entertaining the audience with his early poems, and invariably under the degree and with a shoal in his teeth.
He is alien to the modern mercantile world. He's got everything. His rich wife fully supports him. Until he dies in a car accident. According to the will, the moon dog will receive half of her inheritance if he writes and publishes a new book.
Separated from all funding sources, the Moon Dog embarks on a fascinating journey through Florida. There are amazing characters on the way.
Chisic with a beard like panini sandwiches. With him they escape from the rehabilitation center, and make a brawl in the night city.
Captain Dolphin Amateur (Maritin Lawrence) With the funniest scene in the movie. Snoop Dog plays himself in the film, and a giant bush from Jamaica. An old Rastaman blind in both eyes piloting a plane.
Everyone in this story is a little crazy. The visual side of the film only enhances the overall impression. Visually distorted on the edges of the picture creates a feeling of illusion, surreal dream, in which the viewer “falls” from the first minutes of the film. His obsessive improbability does not burden the viewing and, on the contrary, sets the narrative a pleasant measured pace.
After going through all these adventures, the Moon Dog releases his new collection of poems and receives the inheritance of his wife. Burns him with a new boat, because they are not needed, not interesting.
Unlimited domestic freedom, because only in it can he be himself. And The Beach Bummer is the kind of non-binding diary of a man who can finally be himself. The director is helped as always by the plastic artist McConaughey, who has the best role here since his Oscar races. He is ambitious, incredibly charismatic and does almost everything on the screen, for which a film is usually given an 18+ rating.
The Moon Dog should certainly not be accepted as a role model, nor should it be condemned as a lifestyle. This is a romantic hero, a fairy-tale character who calls on the screen to stop the pursuit of the American dream for a second to look inside himself and say hello. "Beach slacker" - uplifting session of deep relaxation in the usual chair of the cinema. What you need after a hard week.
It's not about the money... It's about sending a message
What does Harmony Corin's name say to a layman? Pretty much nothing. The moviegoer, probably, will pop up in the memory of not so long ago released “Out Holidays”, a grindhouse film, which for some reason was perceived by some critics as an art house. Even slightly more advanced film lovers will tell you about Gummo, success at the Venice Festival and flattering reviews of the director’s work from such masters as Bertolucci and Lars von Trier. Corin's fans (after all, there are probably at least a couple of such) will talk about "Dumpster Trickers" (yes, in the director's filmography there is a film with such a very telling title).
Before watching The Beach Lazy Man, I had only heard of Harmony from the corner of my ear without going into any details. I didn’t watch his movies at the time either. Here it should be noted that “The Bezdelnik” had a good and thoughtful advertising campaign and was able to lure his posters and mentions in a variety of Internet sources such as “The Party King Returns!”, “Another long-awaited film from Harmony Corin”, and so on. In a number of cinemas, the film was in the “correct translation” from Dmitry Puchkov, which also contributed to the relative, but still success of the film (especially if you compare it with the previous works of the “master”, not counting the benefit of the name of James Franco and half-naked girls who were once stars of the Disney children’s channel). In addition, the main role here was presented McConaughey, so dramatically changed his career with serious dramatic roles in the last decade, and here, ironically, returned to the image of the “stupid fireman of life” from his own early works.
So, what expectations did the film set? Waiting for a good comedy with an alternation of absurdist irony and “harp” (because the main characters regularly smoke grass) humor. Expecting something easy, but still not empty. The expectation of some special atmosphere of an American beach, which is not so easy to convey in the movies, if it even a little beyond the silly plots of “Baby Rescue”. So what really happened? Empty movie with dull jokes, hardly making you smile, and not pouring with laughter, and with a claim to a philosophy that is not here and in sight.
In the Western and Russian press, it was possible to find several comparisons of this film with at least two outstanding films – “The Big Lebowski” and “Happy Times in Ridgemont High”. Yes, indeed, there are parallels between the hero of the Moon Dog, Dude and Jeff Spicoli, and the general mood of the films is similar in some places (in many ways, these comparisons are also based on the fact that all the main characters of these films share an addiction to marijuana). But what makes those movies really meaningful and what's not in The Beach Lazy? Why are those films watched and revisited by more than one generation, and “Bezdelnik” will be forgotten very soon? The point here is not that there is no clear plot in the next creation of Corin (after all, who can clearly retell the plot of Lebovsky?), nor that the only manifestation of McConaughey’s truly rich talents here is limited only to constant unnatural laughter, similar to the rattling of seals during the mating season. “The Big Lebowski”, besides being homerically funny in almost every scene, whether it was just a gag or another witty dialogue, was really a fundamentally new example of a hippie pacifist lifestyle in the beginning era of the Internet, and “Changes” managed to capture very accurately the golden time of the “American 80s” (irrevocably gone) with an emphasis on the school life of teenagers of that time. And the heroes of these films, in addition to the brilliance indifference to life’s problems in the spirit of the song “Don’t worry, be happy”, were distinguished by an interest in some special things – Dude, as you know, a fan of bowling and Creedence, Spikoli is an avid surfer and a pizza lover. The characters of these films are convex, relief, finally, they are simply alive, believe in them.
What about Mundog? What does he really like, except for herbal shoals and elderly bodies of women not of the first freshness? Most people here will say that poems, because in the film he is a genius poet. But, listen, can anyone seriously consider poems without any rhyme about the morning riser (this is not a figure of speech or a joke, they were really about it) genius? But in the film, this is given out absolutely at face value; without hints of the absurdity of what is happening, Mundog receives awards for his “masterpieces” of poetry. A number of actions of the main character, who does not want to grow up, and does lead to sad and irreparable events in contrast to the actions of the same eternal teenagers, for example, Tarantino, who eventually get away with everything. It is noteworthy that the film does not foresee consequences for such actions and even to think about these very consequences in the world of Harmony Corin is almost criminal. The rest of the motivation of the hero seems so vague and cloudy that there is absolutely no desire to understand it (in addition, I would still like to avoid spoiler reviews). The only philosophical idea that Korin tries to convey to the viewer through the mouth of the hero Mundog fits in two words - "remain yourself." But here there is a reasonable question, is it worth it for the sake of this quite banal and obvious idea to make a movie that will be fun and funny only for the film crew (but not for the audience), devoid of any traditional plot and dynamics, and very questionable in terms of morality?
*To give authenticity, it is recommended to bark and howl throughout the review. As I was writing this, I did.
'Don't worry!'
' I was waiting.'. I was waiting for the new work of Harmony Corin, this eccentric rebel, this experimental visionary who, like a good clipmaker, knows how to stunning picture and sound, but almost completely ignores the plot. I was waiting for the anthem to hedonism, because five years have passed since the appearance of the last relatively large ideologue of this on the screens - 'Congenital Vice' and Doc Sportello left us just when we needed them most. I was finally waiting for the actual movie, because that's how I tried to be 'Obvious Vacations', the previous film of the director, when he dressed pink balaclavas on freshmen, gave them guns and hacked the ballad Britney Spears. Whether he did or not, I will not judge.
': Moon Dog from another dimension. '
Matthew McConaughey drinks, smokes, dances to the rhythm of happiness, bathes in the luxury of being, catches inspiration, and then writes a little. A structurally more predictable thing is hard to imagine. However, thanks to Corin's ability to populate his story with interesting, unexpected characters, a curious cocktail turns out. This is a movie that is completely based on its heroes. Whether it's, um, a kind of religious Zac Efron, or a dolphin fan Martin Lawrence, or Snoop Dog, who... Well, Snoop Dog. Because of these strange characters, the movie is not boring to watch, they capture your attention and do not let go until the very end. Each of them has a curious view of the world, its own relatively thought-out ideology and motivation. Despite the fact that no one will linger on the screen long enough, everyone will sweep almost instantly, have time to appear and disappear in the time you literally go for popcorn, they seem alive. What can not be said about the moonshine itself.
': Wine and women are a living environment. '
Maybe the problem is I've been waiting too long, but Mundog is the dullest cinematic hedonist I've ever seen. His whole character literally fits one sentence, he has no ideology, no history, he is a dummy, needed to guide the viewer through the halls of the writer’s mind. With all that, McConaughey is amazing. This is his best performance since ' High and Confused' he's organic, he's bright, his image cuts into memory, and he's got a bong gas mask, and I don't. By the finale, Mundog comes to his senses, becoming a minimally bulky character, rather than just an almost passive observer, a visitor to the zoo of various freaks, but this is still not enough. On the other hand, perhaps that was the intention. The film shows us a series of strange events, and thanks to a somewhat isolated hero, we also look at them in isolation. We, like the hero, passively watch the action, submissively following it into the heart of the near-Tompsonian American dream. But it doesn't matter, it's not a place for testing.
39; too fleeting, he rushes past, beckons with his Hawaiian shirts, alcohol and drugs, he pours lovely music into his ears, he tries to be sincere and candid. But unfortunately, it's empty. Unfortunately, treatises about Mundog as the same Jeffrey Lebowski or Larry Sportello will not be written. A good film, holistic from beginning to end, well written, beautifully played, not as beautiful as 'Breaking Vacation' but some footage can still be put on the desktop, there is Jimmy Buffett, a cat only needed for reference, and a joke about the fact that ' she sucked like a python' whatever that means. He's funny, so not all is lost. However, keep in mind that this is a movie that really can be a hangover.
'You're all freaks and I'm a poet.'
Genre affiliation of the new work Harmony Corin to comedies about weed smokers (and this, for a second, a whole subgenre, known in Hollywood as “stoner comedy” and hotly loved there) can scare some radical viewers from viewing – they say, bad habits are not good. Meanwhile, despite all the attributes of frivolous cinema, there is no propaganda of an immoral lifestyle at all in “The Beach Lazy Man”. He, on the contrary, makes you think seriously about topics that are not typical for the comedy genre: about the meaning of life, about its annoying transience and about what legacy we leave behind.
Spending his life on the beaches of Florida, the Moon Dog (Matthew McConaughey) is a local celebrity. Once a promising poet, if he became great, it was more about drunken debauchery, casual sex and smoking “grass”. He is not particularly upset by this outcome and regularly performs at various parties, entertaining the audience with his early poems, and invariably under the degree and with a shoal in his teeth.
Downshifter and slacker, Moon Dog doesn't need money - fortunately he has a wealthy spouse who turns a blind eye to his promiscuous lifestyle and sponsors any of his wild antics. Not until she dies in a car accident. The moon dog will certainly be upset, but it's not like it's gonna kill you with grief all day long. Alcohol and marijuana are so firmly "settled" in the blood of the protagonist that our merry man is hardly able to get out of this alcoholized dream.
However, the news that his part of the multimillion-dollar marital inheritance Moon dog will receive on the condition that he completes his collection of poems (this is the condition set by his late wife), acts on him as sobering as possible, forcing him to go on a fascinating trip along the coast of Florida in search of creative inspiration that would help him complete the book.
And in this sense, the film has the first unexpected discovery (of the two most significant): from a collage of carbon monoxide parties, “Beach slacker” suddenly turns into a meaningful picture-journey, an odyssey on the winding shore of the Atlantic Ocean. On the way of our hero will meet amazing characters, all colorful and anecdotal, like himself.
With the schizi Flicker (Zac Efron) the hero McConaughey will meet in a rehabilitation center for drug addicts. Together, they will make an escape to a little bit of shit in the night city.
In love with dolphins, Captain Vak (Martin Lawrence) will shelter the Dog on his long-rusted yacht and one of his phantasmagoric antics, which could only happen in such a deliberately carbon monoxide film, will bring a lot of fun to both the main character and all the audience. There is also a character Snoop Dogg, who actually played himself in the film.
When watching, you constantly catch yourself thinking that the lifestyle and the image of the main character is one big surrealism, that it is impossible to live as the Moon Dog lives. But for some inexplicable reason, Korin manages to avoid accusations of distortion of reality, substitution of concepts and meanings. Even the most demanding viewer will refuse criticism, believe in this story and gradually imbue the main character with warm feelings. So charming is the main character of this seemingly meaningless, but in reality meaningful film.
Creating a pair with the talented McConaughey such an expressive image, which is the Moon Dog, Corin defiantly shows that you can live happily without money. Following this attitude, the main character, in the end, will give up his millions and demonstrate that money is not happiness. This is the second and main artistic discovery of the film. And although in our mercantile time this thesis is quite controversial, but it has the right to life. In the movies, for sure.
8 out of 10
Mundog is a brilliant poet and sybarite. He has universal love, respect, recognition and his wife’s money. But most importantly, he has almost endless supplies of grass and beer. God once kissed Mundog with a suction, and now continues to help him, as if he had renewed his monthly subscription. That is why Mundog does not even need to try to talk articulately and you can do exactly what you want at this very moment. Push the man with the pipe into the water, please! Drinking a beer cocktail is easy! To sunbathe on a boat, embracing immediately an arm of nymphs is not the first freshness, of course!
But there must be a limit to everything. These are the rules of life. Dies beloved precious wife Mundog (despite their mutually free relations, really beloved), whose will contains a clause according to which the poet can receive an inheritance only after finishing his next brilliant book.
The trend set last year by Lars von Trier to understand their own place in the profession was picked up by Harmony Korin, a demonstrator of the depths of America and a master of shocking, who is generally shunned in decent society. In enjoying life, Pofigista-kaifojore Mundoga easily recognizes Corin himself. If for Trier each new step in creativity is accompanied by pain and pain, and he puts his inflated alter ego without a blink of conscience on the ninth circle of hell straight into the arms of Lucifer, then Corinne, on the contrary, enjoys the sun, air, sea and cannabinoids, thanks to them for the opportunity to create. At the same time, the director makes it clear that about boredom, despondency, search for a muse, search for oneself, about a difficult relationship with the universe, he, of course, knows firsthand: Mundog in the breaks between drunkenness and brawls likes to turn to the starry sky and read Baudelaire to him by heart. Quick dialogues with his ancestor, he usually enough, and a new stage of their joint Permanent Vacation.
"Beach slacker" Corin declares his own views on the existence in this world called life. Realizing in general its meaninglessness and aimlessness, he fills himself first of all with love for all things and seeks to share it with all who will meet on the way, exhaling it into other people's lungs in the form of smoke. In doing so, Corin encourages everyone to listen to themselves, understand themselves and, most importantly, be honest with themselves.
And to speculate about the eternal in the scenery of sun-drenched Miami, the director was helped by a wonderful cast, headed by Matthew McConaughey, dragging blonde patches and women's clothes. Of course, the winner of the “Oscar” here solo, but in the “Beach slacker” there was a place absolutely high Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron and Jonah Hill, who played varying degrees of decency of characters. However, the mansion in the royal flush of eccentrics is Captain Vack, performed by Martin Lawrence. Homerically funny episode about love for dolphins and gratitude to the Lord is a real decoration of the film.

Harmony Korin with his work personality is very curious. It is difficult for someone to love him, and it is easy to hate him, and for someone quite the opposite. This is clearly demonstrated, for example, by his "Outbreaks" 2012. A controversial but interesting picture about the great period of the spring break for American youth, referred to in the common people as spring break. At first glance, it seems that Harmony did not contribute anything significant to this story, stopping at admiring the young bodies of girls drenched in alcohol and bombarded with drugs. But the further the story developed, the more clearly it acquired tragic shades from the expected stupid youth comedy, revealing the dark sides of the American youth dream to the melodic and sad songs of the little-known pop singer Britney Spears. The very dream of an endless separation in which you want to linger, based on money and power, personified by the bandit Elian performed by the inimitable James Franco. In all this visual madness, through hypnotizing acidity and brightness, a sad story of the collapse of hopes, growing up, and the consequences of wrongly choosing an immoral dream shined through. This is an entertaining Corinna Disney fairy tale for grown-up princesses. He, in principle, did not change himself after seven years, going into a new, but at the same time completely different thought, the break with the stoned McConaughey, who, it seems, never enjoyed life and himself so much as here.
The beach slacker is devoid of any notes of tragedy and hopelessness, which, logically, should not be on the sunny beaches of Florida. Wrong time. From to the local story is a light comedy: somewhere to tears hilarious, but in general - surprisingly relaxing and calm. With his ease Korin even moments of tragedy in the lives of heroes are presented quite simply, as an ordinary coincidence of circumstances. His Moon Dog is a man of great talent and eternal carefree vacations with alcohol and drugs, which for others seem absolutely not combined things. But, looking at the history on a sober head, it becomes clear that these concepts for him merged into one continuous harmony. Of course, the Dog’s life proceeds in the same Corinthian key of eternal separation, but, unlike the girls from “Breaking Holidays”, it is based on another. Not on the selfish desire to break away from the world, rising at the expense of material goods that cherish self-love, but on complete harmony with the world and people around, where material goods are not an end in themselves, but only serve as an opportunity to better understand the joys of the universe. Like the hero Franco, skillfully playing the piano, the Moon Dog has a talent for writing, which touches not only Zack Efron, but even, probably, Snoop Dog not high. However, unlike the Alien, who likes to be bad and lick the barrels of pistols, the Moon Dog does not bury his talent, but only postpones it for a while, because now he simply does not need to. Wrong time. And so until a tragic incident forces him to take up the typewriter again to please humanity with his work. It remains only to find inspiration, which, thanks to the foresight of his beloved wife, is about to come to the Moon Dog.
Perhaps, one should not regard "Beach slacker" entirely as some kind of thoughtless ode to hedonism, as well as "Outbreak holidays" to represent an empty admiration of women's breasts. Harmony thinks clearly deeper, expressing his vision of the world and his attitude towards it in the seemingly careless image of the Moon Dog. The hero Korina, perhaps, conveys the most important thing that many people often lack - the ability to understand themselves. Moon dog clearly knows himself and the world around him, and from this he understands what and how he needs. He doesn’t get upset when a judge complains about a writer’s talent that has been depleted under alcohol. Not at all, Moon Dog proudly remembers the old days and sincerely rejoices at how good he was. And all simply because the hero already has the most necessary: a beloved and grown-up daughter gets married, a beautiful wife, despite what is happening, continues to love and consider a genius, friends will not refuse to help, and even a cute white cat to anyone but a homeless person, no longer belongs. Yes, and alcohol with weed is always enough, and the sun continues to shine. It's perfect harmony. And this ease with which the hero looks at the world cannot but be conveyed to the viewer at the screen. Enjoying the beauty of the universe, the Moon Dog undoubtedly expresses this love in a peculiar, repulsive manner. But the manner is so sincere and honest that it is difficult to resist dreams of going to the sea and swinging in the sun in your own boat on the waves.
This time, Korin has no sadness for the whole hour and a half, and only a bright and pleasant relaxed mood prevails, which no one will want to resist. Perhaps it’s more about McConaughey’s contagious laughter than it is about the created atmosphere. But rather, it's a combination of these things and a general casual narrative. Throughout the tape to the ideal in his image McConaughey for a smoke break periodically look and funny agent John Hill, and hooligan Efron, and even aged Martin Lawrence, adoring dolphins, giving a hilarious episode of a sea cruise. Among these incoming and outgoing heroes, the main one for the Dog is Ayla Fisher - the only and true love of the poet, his muse, believing in creative genius with all her soul, thereby giving him strength. Without love, not only for the world, but also for it, the Moon Dog would probably never have been able to stay afloat. And each of the characters can, with the exception of Fisher, of course, just a stroller to McConnachi, dissolving in this story and captivating this mood and audience. And let the whole story of his hero consists of such visiting, versatile people and cases with them, but this tape catches. Moon dog, although he only dreams of lying on the beach with beer surrounded by beautiful ladies, is forced to wander around in different places, so as not to disappear into oblivion and take what is proper. But this is just a normal course of life, not too attached to something global and important. Here's the thing: even after completing his quest and getting to his destination, it's clear that he doesn't really need it. Happiness already exists. Like a boat of money, that rich choirs - and without them happiness is not far off. Destroy the second, and even get rid of the first – it does not matter much. Until harmony with the world is gone, the rest may not be necessary. And everything except this harmonious enjoyment of the universe will not matter. Yeah, in fact, it shouldn't.
The film praises the dissolute lifestyle of the bohemian
Moon Dog (played by Matthew McConaughey) is Florida's best poet. He is married to rich Minnie Boo (played by Isla Fisher), who supports him. They cheat on each other, but no one holds resentment because of it. The film consists of smoking, alcohol, drug use. On all this stands the symbol of Lunar Dog pofigism. The film is about the burners of life who have everything and who want to relax even more or cheer up. Minnie Boo (Ayla Fisher) perfectly plays a wife who considers her husband a genius and the chosen one. Yes, this film celebrates a carefree lifestyle. Life turned the Moon Dog from a brilliant poet into a drug addict, an alcoholic and a hum.
This film celebrates the lascivious lifestyle of American bohemia. Snoop Dogg plays Minnie Boo's lover. Everyone's always fine when you're high on pot. Conclusion one after watching the movie: "Dreams die in debauchery." Matthew McConaughey plays an American bohemian drug addict. He says, "Life is a rodeo." The film is empty because it puts debauchery and drunkenness first. The Moon Dog is a poet who wants an inheritance from his wife. In the film there is a slight erotica (the topless girls). What's the moral of the movie? When you have everything, you begin to rot and decay mentally.
In debauchery, dreams die: mental purity begins to rot. This is shown as the daughter of Moon Dog and Minnie Boo begins to enter the adult life of a party girl. Under the Florida sun, Moon Dog doesn't care about anything. He's a lifesaver 100 percent.
Director Harmony Korin made a film about the bohemian Miami. Drugs, sex, parties, the sun – all this is incomprehensible to a simple Russian viewer. Actress Isla Fisher (she is known for the film “Shopaholic” (2009)) plays the wife of the Moon Dog.
