So came the long-awaited sequel to "The Terminator", although this is not even a sequel, but rather an alternative film from this series, which is much more related to the first and second parts than the third and fourth. The creators of course wised up with time travel, making the events of the first film radically changed. Thus, it was shown that everything began almost from scratch, after the previous two, not particularly successful paintings.
The slogan of the film says that “Fate is rewritten”, but this can be perceived on a larger scale, attributed to the entire franchise as a whole, since not only fate is rewritten, but also history that has turned out to be an alternative one. There was a new director, new writers, who made a slight bias in "Back to the Future". Actually, Laeta Kalogridis does not hide the source of his inspiration. In addition, the updated cast, and Schwarzenegger on the contrary returned. Unfortunately, due to his political career, he was not in the fourth film. I don’t know how for whom, but for me “Terminator” without old Arnie, this is not at all the same.
In the new film, they tried to recreate the atmosphere of the first pictures, the truth turned out quite clumsy, with an obvious advertisement for Nike, but at the same time nostalgic. I’m glad you didn’t forget the famous music. Whatever it was, but Alan Taylor, who specializes more in TV series, still did not reach Cameron. A big plus is that the film has humor and not a little, and this can perhaps be called an innovation for this franchise. Of course, the comedic element adds frivolity, but Schwarzenegger’s smile/rock and his phrases about the fact that he is old, but not useful are incomparable.
In general, "Terminator: Genesis" can not be called flawless and fascinating, there are its own blunders, shortcomings and predictable moments, but enough interesting moments, unexpected turns, dynamics, scale, mainly high-quality visual effects and, as mentioned above, humor. In principle, this film should please true fans, as the creators tried not to disappoint them.
As for the cast, of course, Robert Patrick was missing, who refused to play the role of T-1000 again due to his age and health. Jason Clarke looks like a part of John Connor, at least externally, especially if you look at what Edward Fairlong looks like now (played the role of John Connor in the second part). It is not the first time Jai Courtney has to play the role of a soldier, so he looks familiar to the wave. It seems he has capitalized on action movies and combat fiction. But the star "Game of Thrones" is unusual to see in the image of Sarah Connor. You can see that Emilia Clark is trying, but you wait for the dragons to arrive. Therefore, there is still more than one role to play, so that it would cease to be associated only with Deineris. This was a nice bonus for J. B. K. Simmons.
As a result, "...genesis" is a quite tolerable continuation with an alternative history, not without flaws of course, but with an interesting development and logical conclusion. Unfortunately, this is not the end, there will be a continuation, and perhaps fortunately, who knows.
P.S. It turned out funny that the namesakes - Jason Clark and Emilia Clark , played a son and mother.
According to statistics, I will be the first to write a neutral image for this film.
Although, what sin to hide, to be neutral with this picture is a very subtle matter.
Let me start with a little background... I am a big fan of the Terminator, familiarity with the tape began with the second part, being still quite small, so much so that I could ride under the table on foot, almost without bending. I watched the Terminator tape, no exaggeration, a couple of times a week. If you have access to the video and this tape.
When I grew up, nostalgic feelings showed up, and every time I found this film on TV, I immersed myself in this atmosphere of the coming apocalypse. And not long ago, something rang in my head inconsolable, and I decided to review all the parts in order, because there were a couple of questions about the plot. In the end, I watched the first, second, third, fourth parts and closed all the questions. To say I was shocked is not to say anything. I was just amazed at how much it was twisted and obsessed and, in the end, logical. From this very moment I became not just a fan of the Terminator for nostalgic sensations, but consciously, in view of the mad enthusiasm of the whole script.
You know what I'm getting at? I could not afford to miss the new tape about the old T-800. Moreover, this is my gift for the day of jam, which will be only after 2 weeks. I went to IMAX...
The review is neutral only because I watched this film from two angles, because I prepared myself morally. I watched this picture as a fan of the series and, artificially, as a layman, familiar with the series only by hearsay.
For the first 20 minutes, I was a fan. The last hour and a half cheered the layman, sometimes only giving way to a fan, at the time of the sound of cult music.
As a fan, I have a lot of questions for the writers. The questions especially concern what they did to the characters and why they decided to spit so unceremoniously on the works of previous authors. I will not paint these tirades, it may result in demagogy and empty boring. The second question, but not the last, I had for the guys who were recruiting the cast. Of course, the question is not acute, but it exists. And so on and so forth...
As a layman, I have no questions. Everything is cool, powerful, driving, funny in some places, sad in some places and in the end still pathetic and epic. But still, even the layman in me, a little sad rating 12+... at least 16+ would be more interesting.
Well, there's a reason I wrote about how I got acquainted with the series. I wanted to show how deep I went first without realizing it, and then consciously into the intricacies of the series. For me, details and details are important, which I know as 2+2=4. A lot of little things were broken. As the famous quote goes, “the devil in small things.” This is a quote that doesn’t work.
In summary.
As a layman who appreciates it as a separate film about robots, the apocalypse and “Swartz” is a strong 7-ka and even half.
And as a fan of the series, this is a 6 with a big drawback. Nothing to add.
P.s. but I still enjoyed it, thanks to IMAX and of course the music... when the credits went, we didn’t get up in a hurry, we enjoyed the main composition, even though I started to forget about the film itself.
... Ticket purchased for the best seat the day before the premiere. Looking forward to the end of endless trailers. Green inscription +12 (nowadays even the Terminator must respect the younger generation), go!
It’s hard to tell how many times I’ve watched the first two Terminators. Now it is difficult to believe, but once there was not a day that the cassette looked up to the holes would not slide with the usual rumbling into the bowels of an old tape recorder, ready to once again open on the TV screen the adventures of heroes familiar to every turn of the head and glow in black glasses.
Much later, reading reviews on numerous forums, I learned that there are quite a few like me. The first two films, and especially the second, really have the effect of “infinite reviewability”, created due to the perfect combination of all the components of the film itself – the acting, effects, sound and video. And if the passing third film, made as a self-parody of the second part, partially (although to a vanishingly small extent) this effect retained, then the fourth was perceived as an exclusively summer blockbuster, to review which for the second time simply does not come to mind.
The logical question is, what about the fifth part? The final answer will take time, but I can say with confidence that it will give a hundred points in this regard. Although there is no denying that the number of explosions and Robomesil tape is much closer to traditional summer blockbusters than the first two parts, the scriptwriters have bellowed such that the ordinary viewer can not do without a couple of revisions to finally understand all the plot intricacies! In fact, I personally planned to prepare a review of the main storyline, having visited the film twice, but after the first viewing I realized that it was pointless to state something here - in terms of confusing time travel, Terminator 5 could compete with Back to the Future 2. Especially since after the first viewing, the thought that was put in the title of the review settled dead in my head:
You can't dismiss this movie.
Any Terminator fan will remember how many keyboards have been erased in the evidence that the parody T3 and the passable T4 should be taken solely as a means of making money, and should not be regarded as a true continuation of the great series (with which I fully agree). While T3 was seen as a misunderstanding, T4 was encouraged by many to watch, simply forgetting the first two parts (which, despite numerous references, was quite easy to do due to the complete lack of atmosphere of these parts). So with Terminator 5, this trick will not work. Even I, a true fan of the series, cannot but admit that in my desire to return to the origins of the film, the creators created a spectacle that inextricably merged with the first two parts. Continuing a number of storylines, creating several more time rings intertwined with the previous ones, and saturating the film with a mass of not only references, but also plot moves from the first two films, the writers hermetically sealed the T1-T2 Universe into a larger shell, returning to the ideas that contained the end of the second part. And although this decision itself may be controversial and accompanied by a lot of blunders (which I personally expect to find in subsequent views), to write off T5 from the accounts in anticipation of some “even more organic, even more worthy continuation”, in my opinion, it is simply impossible.
Now he just can't be! T5, the creators of which ignored T3 and T4 and made a series of skillful surgical operations with T1 and T2, proved conclusively - it's time to see off the great series. If the squalidness of the T3 and the sterility of the T4 left fans with any hope, then the masterfully crafted T5, which is simply imbued with respect for fans of the first two parts, highlighted the simple fact that we, as Terminator fans, do not need any “worthy continuation”. We need to be surprised again for life, as 20 years ago, when the Terminator triumphantly walked through screens and video rental items, making us look again and again at the blurred video copy with the nefarious translation. What about Mad Max, whose director managed to surprise fans 35 years later? Of course it is. However, the events of the fourth Max developed more less independently, at that time the creators of T5, weaving everything in a tight tangle and doing it, which, most importantly, at a decent level, deprived us of hope for the creation of T6, which would surpass T1 and T2 - because no matter what T6 was, it will be impossible to ignore the events of T5 in it, which means that the action is doomed to rotate everything in the same dryly squeezed "universe".
... How much I wrote, and all thinking about the film. What about the movie itself? Once again, you cannot miss it. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen for more than two hours. The topic of the time machine (shortly mentioned at the beginning of the book on the second part) is covered by 100%. Battles with robots in the future at a new level of development of special effects? Got it. Unexpected plot twists? So much so that you risk falling behind on another. References to previous parts? The whole movie is one big reference. Iron Arnie? Yes, and not alone. Iron Arnie jokes? Yes, and not alone. 80s Los Angeles? Here you go. Creative rethinking of the roles that the main characters play in the plot? All you want. In general, if someone is preparing to see something like T3 or T4 on the screen (and this is the feeling of doom that I went to see), relax and get ready for a decent movie. All of the above is not dumped on the screen in the form of indigestible mush, and decorated in the form of a spectacular and thoughtful summer blockbuster – of course, not T1 and certainly not T2.
Now on the flaws. The following points cut my eye:
1) A number of obligatory now pathetic scenes (completely absent in T1-T2 and reminded me of T3-T4);
2) Completely unsuitable for the role of Kyle Reese Jai Courtney (in my opinion, the selection is as unsuccessful as Nick Stahl in the role of John Connor in T3 – Reese, created by Courtney, does not in the slightest resemble a hardened fighter from the dungeons of the future, but not a particularly gifted pitcher). Reese's behavior doesn't betray that fighter either.
(3) Problems with physics (it is impossible to knock out a thick steel bunker door, even with a steel foot, so that it flies away to the side; a multi-ton door cannot swing from a shock wave inside like a tin; for some reason an overturning bus, etc.).
(4) Terminators who, while they don’t do stupid things like the final scene in T4’s Take More, Throw More, but aren’t horrified, too often come into close contact with their victims and...all miss the chance to kill them.
Final verdict:
This film has a lot of plot failures, the writers used a lot of drugs in writing the script for this film. They never explained where the first liquid Terminator came from, who sent Arnie to save Sarah Connor. There are a lot of micro and macro jambs in the film, it feels like you’re looking back to the future with the Terminator in the lead role. The whole film laughed hysterically at all the nonsense that happened and snot about the love of cars and vice versa. Like a movie, it’s good, but the graphics are bad, the references to the classics are very annoying, Arnie is petrosian about his career. That's the whole movie. The main thing is that the Terminator has ceased to be so formidable. They just made him a comic book hero, bad Terminators are no longer scary, they are mowed in bundles. And in the original there was one unkillable villain and mortal hero who fought with the last strength. Now everything has gone down to the level of Marvel comics. No sympathy for the heroes, no message, no atmosphere. It's not clear why we need references to the original if a new film is spit in his face, would come up with something new. And again, the main problem is that the atmosphere of fear of the car has already been lost. And without it, there is only stupidity, stupidity and stupidity, which is served by excellent effects.
Remember the first two movies, violent, brutal, with a cold and harsh atmosphere, with a sense of fear from the imminent apocalypse. Remember? And now know, all this in the stupid useless fake called "Terminator: Genesis" is not!
After watching Jurassic World, which I was delighted with, I already knew that Genesis would not repeat such a success, both in terms of viewers and commercially (I hope). Screenplay. That's the main problem with this movie, the script. It’s so bad that sometimes you think: did the creators really care about the franchise? The whole first half of the film was dullly dancing on the bones of nostalgia, and in the second, the writers already understood that they needed to come up with something ... they came up with it! For me, it's officially, the worst time travel movie. There are so many plot holes, so many sagging in the script, and after all, the creators understood that people love when everything is confusing, and use it. Throughout the film, they created a bunch of complex mazes and stupidly forgot to create exits from them.
Well, about the script like everything that we have there with humor ... it's not funny mother! Terminator is not a franchise to put in a bunch of Marvel humor. Most jokes come down to Schwartz trying to smile, it's not funny, even when you do it for the fourth time. When Schwartz barely smiled in the second film, it was funny and showed that the character was evolving and becoming more human. And then I roll my eyes in shame.
As for the actors, it’s not perfect either: The mother of dragons is wooden and does not suit the role of warlike Sarah at all, Schwartz is more laughter than brutality, Glad that even though Jay Courtney did not annoy. But as for J.K. Simons and Matt Smith, they were not needed in the film at all, it is a shame that such good actors were taken on such second-rate roles.
“Terminator: Genesis”: a stupid fake shot more by some fans who do not yet respect the work of Cameron, and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t like the movie, there’s nothing. For example, the idea of parallel reality or that John Connor is a villain (and this is not a spoiler, the trailer was), scenes of the future made in this retro-futuristic style and a couple of interesting scenes. As for my favorite tudututututu, it was more annoying to use too often and inappropriately.
In the end, I was disappointed, there is no atmosphere of the first two films, and no matter how hard you tried (and you did not try) you did not manage to return us to childhood, but only showed us a pathetic hack, in which somewhere after 1 hour you forget that you are watching a film from the Terminator series, and these friends are a huge degradation.
For me, this is the worst movie in the franchise right now.
or why "Terminator Genesis" is worse than "Terminator 2"
A very peculiar new “Terminator” turned out, radically changing the 30-year history of the plot and the long-awaited culminating finale. The plot is a complete hodgepodge, everything is confused and mixed up to the devil, the future has become the present, the present is the future, and what we knew about previously has disappeared into tar-tarars. Now to the point. I can’t say that the film turned out bad, it’s just different, but this can’t justify everything that the director has invented, at least I think the fans will not understand. Initially, we are shown the decisive battle of humanity and machines, in the courtyard of 2029, this is the end of history, from which a new one begins. The people win, but Skynet has time to send a Terminator back in time to kill Sarah Connor, the mother of the great militia leader, back in 1984, even before he was born. It would seem that the cycle of time is closed, what next? And this is Genesis! Which represents a rebirth, a rebirth of the Terminator story. Kyle Reese goes for a Terminator in the past to save Sarah, but a moment before he leaves 2029, he manages to notice that something has attacked John Connor. Intrigue!
Further, the plot will throw the viewer through different time periods, telling a new development of seemingly familiar events, here and liquid metal, and young Arnie and good old episodes and dialogues, shown in a new light. But you know what surprised me the most? The basis of which the director started is the foundation of the plot of the 1st and 2nd Terminator, we are talking about the ship day of 1997, and the fact that in the 3rd part it was postponed until 2004 is not interested in anyone, as well as the events of the 4th. In fact, Genesis is a direct sequel to Part 2 and you wouldn’t have lost anything if you hadn’t watched Part 3 and 4. You know, I grew up directing James Cameron like she did in Terminator 2. “Doomsday” and this picture is a benchmark for me, because Cameron’s goal was not visual effects, it was not an action filled with a sea of explosions and special effects, it was a stunning production where each frame was incredibly important and carried a certain meaning for the picture. Terminator 2 is the disclosure of destinies, this is a choice, this is a drama in a competent combination of a spectacular fantastic action movie, this is art! In this film, Arnold Schwarzeneger conveys the visualization of the robot as much as possible, its movements are not plastic, there are no emotions in facial expressions - I believe all that Cameron so demandingly sought in any of the other parts, he will not play this way again.
What do we see in Genesis? The most important thing, I think, is the destruction of the Terminator's 30-year history. The denouement that I could have expected for the last 23 years of my life, I never waited, it was completely different and far from the plot, again I will repeat. At the beginning of the tape there is intrigue ... then solid dynamics, special effects, humor - that's the whole film. Cameron, who directed the first two parts of the series, showed us the story in a completely different manner, as you could see it today, these are completely different visions of the production and it haunts me.
I would like to highlight the positive aspects of the new terminator. As a separate part of the series, it is not even bad, beautiful, spectacular. Let the plot and solyak, but still, the share of originality is present here, it does not look bad. Special effects are very good, which gives the picture a flavor, here young Arnie, I personally really liked, recreated on 5+. I can’t help but mention the new liquid metal, which as a Korean actor turned out to be just a stunningly similar way of playing Robert Patrick (T-1000). Well, as well as various kinds of chips that are echoes with the former parts, such as Arnie's mechanical hand without skin.
Summing up, I will say that Genesis is not the Terminator, it is something different and new, perhaps it is not bad, it is not for me to judge alone, but still not the feelings on my soul. The story kind of ends with this film, and the denouement is delusional, which leaves a lot of questions, one of which is “Who sent the Terminator in 1973?” I was also surprised by the fact that the T-800 here seemed to have warm feelings for Sarah Connor, something like paternal, by the way, many points are shown here on this occasion, even the emphasis is given, but I thought it was wrong. We all remember how young Connor ordered and begged the T-800 to stay with him and not self-destruct. I think everyone had a lump in their throat, but nevertheless... but in the new part they left the old one, filling it with their ideas.
“Everything has changed. We are humanity's last hope! ?
And here it is! A new part of our old, good Terminator! It's been 6 years since the last movie (Terminator: May the Savior Come, 2009), which, frankly, turned out bad. Why was he bad? Because the spirit of the 1991 Terminator, which is the best part, has been completely lost. As for Genesis, everything is different here.
First, Arnie is back with us! The real Arnie, not his computer version (which is also present in the film). Yeah, Arnie's old, but he's not useless! He played as well as ever and I think he enjoys playing Terminator. All those old-age jokes are really good. Arnie knows how to laugh at himself and that's great. The same old and good T-800. Thank you very much, there would be no film without him. If there was, it would be like a 2009 movie.
Second, Daenerys Bure... Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor. A pleasant actress, pleases the eye and plays her role very well. There could have been any other actress instead, but Emilia is kind of a highlight. Her facial expressions are always pleasing, as well as jokes about her growth. Fighting, screaming and bleeding like Sarah Connor. I was very happy with her in the movie with Arnie. Our Khaleesi played well.
As far as Jai Courtney (Kyle Reese) is concerned, I can’t say anything bad or good. Well, he didn't stand out for me in the plot, just a couple of moments - nothing more. Jason Clarke as John Connor somehow shone more in the plot.
Am I happy with the movie? Definitely yes! I got a lot of positive impressions. It’s certainly not a 1991 movie, but Genesis I’d put second to it. The plot is interesting, the characters are pleasing. Terminators are both old and new. The film has the spirit of a real Terminator that we love. I think it's a great success. I hope the film has a decent collection.
Going to this film, I thought only about nostalgic references to the first two parts of the Terminator, and I got what I wanted, but the rest of the creators managed to merge into an absolute mess of pathos, and nonsense.
The story begins as stupidly as it ends. Screenwriters, having received the task to rewrite the fate of the Terminator, collecting references to the first two parts of the Terminator, do not strain at all from the number of plot holes that they produce, because there is time travel in the script, and this is always a problem. Dialogues are so saturated with pathos and nonsense that you want to close your eyes and ears, because you can not squander scenes in the cinema. Dialogue is the main problem of this film, and the dialogue is so long that you think about when the action will begin. In my opinion there is very little action in the film. The action begins as quickly as it ends. After the action again a “minute” of dialogues full of pathos, and stupidities. The main antagonist was released in the last trailer, and because of this, the film lost a little intrigue. The main antagonist collected typical clichés of a lot of talking villain. The thriller in the film is not enough, because for the most part there is no tension. In terms of thriller lead only the first two films.
It was great to see the Terminator again as Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold doesn't have much dialogue, but it's mostly humorous, and the rest of it contains abstruse lectures on time travel and talk about theories. It was also nice to see Emile Clarke, but she didn’t really try to give the acting in this film.
The movie has its advantages.
The first scene in the film was a copied scene from the first Terminator, when a T-800 from the future appears. There are many other references in the first two terminators in the form of the T-800 rising from fire, the T-1000 can find its pieces of metal, and there are even references to the third part.
Even the presence in the film of Arnold, Emilia, references to the first two parts of the Terminator, the film does not get better, and for the most part you only miss watching, listening to boring dialogue.

The first film featured the phrase "I'll be back", the second - "Hasta la vista, baby". The crown phrase of Genesis is “theoretically.”
Previously, viewers held their breath when there was time travel, but now they don’t. Everything. Everything became mundane - fleeing the Terminator, killing people, trying to destroy Skynet. The picture of a nuclear holocaust is not as frightening as Cameron's. McGee in "Salvation" had to change the style of the story to make the viewer worry about what is happening on the screen. He didn't quite make it. It didn't work out at all.
How can you take a film seriously when it takes literally a few minutes to destroy the next Terminator, the final attack on Skynet in the future and in the past. For the first time in the franchise, the timer showed the time before Doomsday, and he treacherously turned 13 hours into 8 minutes. Eight minutes to try to destroy Skynet! It's never been that easy before.
Unfortunately, there was no clear and adequate alternative to what was seen from the very beginning. On the continuation of the storyline of the fourth film did not go. The number of space-time paradoxes exceeds any permissible norms. Now a bunch of Terminators have been sent all the time, sometimes several times at the same time. Which is odd, since the events of the film seem to give us reason to believe that only one person was sent to the side of the beaver in the past and one not-very-even-understood-that on the side of the donkey. This oversight is attributed to the uncertainty of the future and the past. As a result, the film is very difficult to watch. They explain the universe of the film rather than the events.
Logical holes, at least. Why was there no Judgment Day in 1997/2003/random? Why did the main characters give themselves less than a day to destroy Skynet instead of, say, a year? Why don’t you send yourself to a deserted place? Why did Skynet block the doors but not the elevator? Thousands of them.
How complicated is the plot? From what I understand, Sarah and Kyle almost immediately ruined John Connor's conception. Even if they didn't, it took 33 years to give birth to him, to grow up, to prepare him. Why didn't it disappear in the "Back to the Future" style? See the answer in the "future and past uncertainty" section. This is puzzling and discouraging. Isn't saving the leader of humanity the point of the franchise? Do four films make John one of the most epic protagonists in the history of cinema, so that he becomes an antagonist in the fifth film from scratch? Since 1984, the salvation of mankind has been in the hands of an unflappable leader. In the fifth, in the hands of two random people who, as it were, should have been the parents of this leader, but now they are not, but, unfortunately, were them in a parallel universe, and now they are fighting with a son who seems not to be. Here we go.
The picture is cool. From the caste, Simmons was pleased, the others were not as annoying as I thought. In the 21st century, action without drama makes no sense. There are no epic scenes in the style of questioning Sarah in the asylum, ghostly dreams about the future, a metal foot on the ground of skulls, inspirational speeches of Christian Bale. What do we have? I think it's okay. The main disadvantage is the sweet ending. Cameron in the director’s version of the happy end was more solid. The main plus is the ending again. If other franchises leave space for a sequel, then this film for the first time in history left space that would not make any more sequels.
This movie is not bad, it just has nothing to love.
The 5th Terminator or the restart of the universe in the form of "Genesis" is a roof nose.
And in a good sense of the word. The film is so full of action and cool moments that it just did not give a break. In this regard, he can only compete with the new Mad Max. Not only that, from the very sketch that blew up the Internet, it turned out to develop a cool and quite logical idea with a change in the future. Yes, I understand that many fans will say that “The essence of the Terminator was conveyed by Cameron when he said that the future is predetermined”, but not the guys, believe me, this is not true.
The idea has been developed so much that you begin to love every moment in this film. Perhaps 2 hours was not enough to convey everything straight, but the film looks on one breath. Moments get goosebumps. I don’t want to spoil the story much, but I will say this: Arnie in the form of that T-800 became only cooler, his emotions became deeper and in general he makes you think even more than in the second part. I'm not going to argue, the second part of the semantic load is cooler. But in terms of action and volume of events, Genesis will beat all parts. He even beat the posh 4th film, which many unjustifiably shit. Maybe the new John Connor was a little short, but I personally believe that he is exactly the character that he was prescribed to pass on. Yeah, I'd love to see Bale in this role, but Clark did a pretty good job, too. Sarah Connor is great. Kyle Reese convinced me, too. I don't even know who to doubt. By the way, the role of J.K. Simson for many will be a pleasant surprise, as he coped with it with a hurrah and complemented everything chic. In Genesis, as they paid tribute to the old school, and transferred everything to a new way. Overall, I am happy with the film and can safely say. I recommend it. Take all your friends and family and go to the movies.

The creators of Genesis chose without a doubt a spectacular and at the same time extremely strange strategy to promote their offspring. It is one thing when you are teased with teasers and half-hints in various interviews - quite another, when a few days before the premiere almost ALL the most delicious moments are officially leaked to the network! In my memory, such “leaks” the film community has not yet known!
Everyone involved in the new Terminator was understandable. The third time to enter the same river without James Cameron, not everyone will dare! Remembering how many copies of the critics broke about “Rise of the Machines” and “The Savior”, how many angry cinematic reviews the above-mentioned sequels received – it was necessary to decide on a desperate step! In fact, the bosses of Skydance Productions decided not to fix anything and go the path of least resistance. That is, to save all the vital for the “Terminator” (I really do not want to use the now almost branded word “franchise”) components and slightly change the story to please the modern viewer, stuffing it with the most modern visual effects. However, bypassing all the largest “pitfalls” Skydance, alas, did not notice smaller stones. Starting to invent an alternative universe, the writers broke the already thin threads on which the logic of Kemeron’s “terminators” rested. Another thing is that Cameron compensated for all the logical inconsistencies with magnificent dynamics, the most interesting characters, the charisma of the leading actors and the viewer, even with repeated revisions, admired the story, sincerely empathized with the characters and (most importantly!) saw the director’s interest in the filming process. It’s no surprise that Cameron originally planned to put the end of Judgment Day. The story was told. He had nothing to add to it personally. And as much as the viewer did not want to meet with the beloved heroes again, most of the movie fans around the world were in solidarity with the author. The dialogue began and ended on a very beautiful note.
Alas, “The Rise of the Machines” and “The Savior” clearly demonstrated the creative hopelessness of Kemeron’s apologists. The story grew at the expense of new characters, but nothing new at the same time brought. The authors of the script “Genesis” Laeta Kalogridis, Patrick Lussier tried to originalize and from the very beginning shoot at fans with such nostalgic salvos that the first 10 minutes of the film involuntarily think: “And if this time it really works?” However, disappointment comes very quickly. The famous musical theme Brad Fidel is replaced by absolutely faceless and bland passages of the strings Lorne Balf (who is this??????), the plot is filled with some inappropriate for the "Terminator" teenage jokes (hello, PG-13 rating), and the whole atmosphere so carefully built in the spirit of the source collapses overnight with the appearance on the T-1000 screen. And well, the scriptwriters rushed to explain the appearance of two terminators in the 84m at once, so no - the T-1000 quickly breaks into history (by the way, since they took to "play nostalgia" and rejuvenated Schwarzenegger so why not do the same with Robert Patrick?) and, teasing a little Cineman's inflamed imagination, just as quickly disappears from it. Having prospoilered at the pre- and post-production stage, all the unexpected plot twists of the creators of Genesis are struggling to put pressure on the drama of the story, then and then emphasizing the age of the T-800 (or still Schwarzenegger?), quoting all the more or less significant action tapes of the last decade and somehow blatantly trolling one well-known Apple Corporation with all its gadgets.
However, even if we consider “Genesis” without cinemonic claims, all its weaknesses can be seen without much difficulty. First of all, this is, of course, an extremely unsuccessful casting. If in the photo and in the video fragments Emilia Clark seemed the ideal candidate for the role of Sarah, then during the viewing of Genesis, too often I had to catch myself thinking that the actress is still on the set of Game of Thrones and continues to play in Khaleesi: the same facial expressions, the same gestures, the same intonation. About Jay Courtney everything was clear in the fifth "Die Hard" and to find a more inappropriate candidate for the role of Kyle Reese - it had to try! As for Jason Clark, for all the madness of his look and a very memorable texture appearance, the actor’s charisma is clearly of a different order and therefore John Connor in his performance looks extremely unconvincing. The confusion in Clark's eyes in some scenes only confirms this. The only bright spot in the caste should be called except that K. Simmons, but here rather worked the personal charm of the actor. It is a pity that detective O'Brien was allocated criminally little screen time.
Arnold Schwarzenegger should be mentioned separately. No matter how twisted from childhood memories and sensations (and they, as you know, the brightest!) get rid of very, very difficult! At any mention of the "Terminator" before the eyes unwittingly stands not in jest frightening (in the case of the picture of 1984) and at the same time touching and captivating with his nobility (in the case of the picture of 1991) giant handsome in a leather jacket, dark glasses and weapons at the forefront. Could any of the fans of the Terminator story have imagined that the death machine would one day age and become a sentimental babysitter? Hardly. The authors of Genesis, however, suggested that we all adopt this version of the current T-800. Which, of course, was much easier to beat in the plot, given the current age of the leading actor, but it also significantly affected the overall perception of the picture as a whole. Throughout the film, the heart involuntarily shrinks when you see the aged Terminator-Schwarzenegger from the last strength holding on to his most important cinematic image. It is clear that Arnie is sincerely happy to return to his native penates, but he himself perfectly understands that this return came too late for him.
Among other things, "Genesis" frankly unlucky with dubbing. All these “paps”, the blonde intonation of Sarah, through the frenzy of mechanical speech of the T-800 – only aggravate the already not rosy impression of viewing.
Genesis proves that the story of the Terminator and the Connor family is long over. Jokingly, the most vivid and truly memorable moments of the picture of the sample of 2015 are the scenes of the original tapes reshot in detail. Thank you to the authors of Genesis for such a reverent attitude to their historical past, but wouldn’t it be more honest to leave this very past as it is?

I think that no one hoped that the “Terminator”, the rights to which, over the past few years, changed owners a couple of times, will be able to come out as a worthy successor to the first two parts. But every time you go to the next summer blockbuster, you still expect that Hollywood craftsmen will take and give up their best skills and skills, specifically in this project. Once again, you leave the session upset. At least I had it personally. The first Terminator sessions began in Russia yesterday, and I did not fail to become one of the first spectators of the new creation of Skydance Productions. (She directed such films as Mission Impossible: The Phantom Protocol, Jack Reacher, G.I. Joe: Cobra Throw 2, World War Z, Star Trek: Retribution.)
And what did I see? All of the $170 million budget is on the screen, but when you watch it, you feel like you’ve saved both actors and writers. As always, if you dig deeper, you can make a lot of claims to what is happening on the screen. And if in the film there are movements in time, then to argue about what something and such can not be, because it can not – you can hoarsely. Only that doesn't make sense. No one knows what will happen if people move back in time to change the past. It's fantastic. But if the script is an eternal problem of big projects, then thanks to the actors there is a feeling that you are watching a series, albeit expensive, where you have more or less flashed on the big screen faces. And some good games are not particularly observed, and even the actor's charisma. I never got used to the actors until the end of the film. Even Daenerys Burreborn, that is, Emilia Clarke, who moved to the project after the director from Game of Thrones, did not live up to her hopes. It’s a long way from Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor from the first films). Dialogues also do not shine with vitality, and most of the time the characters communicate with each other like robots. Although this may be part of the fault of the Russian dubbing.
Anyway, what I'm getting at. From my extensive, let’s say, movie viewing practice, I learned one rule. The more you expect from the premiere, the more disappointed. Lower your expectations for the new Terminator and I’m sure you’ll walk out of the room quite happy. Despite the shortcomings, the fifth part turned out to be watchable and quite cheerful. It was a cocktail of parallel universes and alternative interpretations of the first two films.
Yeah, and don't run out of the room when the credits go on the screen. A small final scene will change the whole ending of the film.

Of course, the news that the famous and much-loved franchise is returning to the screens was received coolly, and not surprisingly, especially when Hollywood took the habit of releasing numerous reboots / sequels filled with tons of pathos and stunning special effects. I was afraid that this movie would be the same. Moreover, the plots of the original quadrology were changed coordinateally, so that there is not only a continuation, but also a full-fledged rebut. Whether good or bad is another matter.
The film changes the concept of the original 1-2 films. At first, it seems as if the authors are sending the viewer back to the era when we were ecstatic looking at the evil Arnold stalking Michael Bien and Linda Hamilton, but this is just a deception. In such a simple way, showing us the scenery of the first film, the authors attract the viewer and offer a completely different plot. That is, as they say, “break the pattern.” Kyle Reese transforms from Sarah's savior into her assistant, while she and the Terminator Nanny (with the ridiculous nickname "Paps") try to stop the war by going in a time machine ... in 2017. And there, the heroes are waiting for a rather unexpected meeting (which was spoiled by numerous Internet fetchurets) with an old friend. And the main motive, surprisingly, the same – to stop the end of the world.
In order to attract the audience, the authors returned the good old T-1000 performed by another actor, who, alas, is present only in the first half of the film. And by the way, he looks good. Also added a new character - a detective investigating the case of Terminators, who appears here only for 5 minutes and just as suddenly disappears. But you could make an interesting plot with him, but alas, he is here in order to help the heroes a little, and... Disappear.
Generally speaking, the film can be divided into two parts. The first part is an adventure in 1984, based on nostalgia for the first film, and it begins with a rather interesting but short battle between the old T-800 and the new T-800. Next is the chase from the deadly T-1000, which pursues the heroes as intensely as possible. There are jokes, interesting moments, and the atmosphere of the old movie (well, almost). And the villain is better. And this is despite the fact that the old and familiar story has completely changed.
The second part is adventures in the 21st century with a good old-fashioned attempt to change the future, only less tense and more predictable. There is a villain here, who, despite the fact that he is like a “plug in the anus” of special tension, like the T-1000 does not carry. The joke here became more, explosions appeared, the action doubled, and the pathos did not decrease. On the one hand, such an attraction is not appropriate for the Terminator, and on the other hand it looks attractive for some reason.
Cinema does not bring anything new. Except, perhaps, the concept of the villain, but even then there are contradictory points. And trying to change the past in order to change the future provides good ground for continuation. And not one. But Skynet here became a full-fledged opponent.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the symbol of the franchise, unfortunately, does not play the main role here. We are used to having his characters, whether hero or villain, always in the spotlight. Immediately he plays a secondary role, pushing forward the miniature Emily Clarke and Jai Courtney, but it does not become uninteresting. Moreover, the authors put a line between his humanity and “inhumanity”, unwittingly making him the object of jokes based on the inability of the Terminator to get used to human life (" I read this on the site “Cool Guns. catfish”). And his “smile” will provoke all the fans. But, strangely enough, it was very interesting to follow him. As for the age of the actor, it is played out by his phrase “old, but not useless” and other details.
The rest of the actors to some extent try to work out their fee. Jason Clark, surprisingly, was very interesting. Emilia Clarke, although not like the real Sarah Connor, a woman-war, but also played interesting. Her character is more like a girl who wants to play "war".
And to be honest, as a sequel, Terminator Genesis is an order of magnitude worse than the previous two films. It resembles the self-parody that Arnie and his character in particular are worth. There is no aestheticism like in the first two films, there is no depth, unique atmosphere, memorable moments and there is no cool (really cool) Arnold. In addition, there is a plot that erases the usual images and makes us, as if under torture, look at the whole circus. But I look at time first. The present time is filled with movies with space effects and blockbusters. Yes, the movie belongs to this type, but in this type it looks like infused. It's dynamic, it's interesting. Yes, we can blame what is happening, but at the same time we watch it to the end and even to some extent remain satisfied. But do I want to go on? No.
"Terminator: Genesis" - a continuation that should not have been, but which is fascinating.

Involuntarily quoting the heroine, I confess that I thought for a long time how to start such a conversation. You know, when I got up from my chair after watching the picture, I had only one thought in my head: it looks like this time the guys did it! After all, after a completely passable “Rise of the Machines”, and frankly disappointed all those who had placed more hope on him, “The Savior” (TV – the TV series “The Chronicles of Sarah Connor” will not be considered at all) – finally, a blockbuster authored by Alan Taylor, finally released on screens, does not just become an “N3 film” in the franchise (by its quality indicators it follows immediately after the second film of the series), but truly rehabilitates the glorious name of the project. Because “Genesis” is a real “Terminator”, the film that was supposed to be a continuation of the legendary sequel (if they certainly wanted to make it), it will go down in the history of cinema on a par with the masterpiece “Judgment Day”. Now, of course, many skeptics took the film at bayonets, but I’m sure time will pass and everything will fall into place – namely: “Genesis” is recognized as a successful sequel, which simultaneously became a restart of the entire saga. Just think about this wording, and you will understand what a twist the director of the fifth film, in which we will be honest – few people believed, including the author of these lines. Only the first, expanded trailer of the future picture could change the frankly biased opinion about the upcoming film. You bet! They showed episodes identical to the very first "Terminator", thereby making it clear that the time loop was somehow warped, and the familiar history was rewritten. No wonder I waited for the movie to come out because I believed in the new Terminator and gave it a chance. Today I admit that I did it for good reason, and they fully justified my faith in the success of their project.
Of course, Alan Taylor’s film is no better than Terminator 2, but it is quite freely placed nearby, sometimes jumping to the drama of key episodes of the cult brainchild of James Cameron (who, by the way, approved the script with which Taylor worked). In fact, to impute into the vein "Genesis" can only abuse computer effects: even the scattering of glass fragments in numerous episodes of the film was "painted", and it is all the same, despite the highest quality of technology - noticeable. While maestro Cameron used special effects only to depict on the screen what could not happen in real life, shooting everything else in the old-fashioned way. But there is nothing you can do, apparently computer graphics have become so much embedded in the Hollywood mainstream that it is impossible to imagine a modern, high-budget blockbuster with moderate use of it.
The script for the fifth film about the confrontation between people and machines was written by Patrick Lussier and Laeta Kalogridis (Island of the Damned). The plot turned killer and revolutionary for the franchise. The story was rewritten, many key episodes changed and the main characters began to travel through time, changing their fate and the future of millions! And most importantly, perhaps it is the role of the aging Arnie in the project. I hasten to please, the old man in excellent shape and his character as before - in the spotlight. If you do not take the T-800 into account (one of the heroes, but still not a person, although he got his own name in this part!), then the central characters of the plot are, as in the 1984 film, Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese.
Much rests on their relationship, both with each other and with the "Pubs" - the name as a child Sarah gave her guardian and protector - the Terminator, who saved her from the arrival of her to eliminate the T-1000. Yes, this time as a child, the personal robot was not the future leader of the Resistance, John, but his mother. The slogan of the picture is completely justified - fate is really rewritten! But not one viewer will be so bewildered, but also Kyle, who arrived to protect Sarah, too. Until the end, the authors will not explain who exactly sent the robot into the past to save little Connor, but the characters themselves promise to eventually find answers to both this and other questions that pop up during the film. One of which concerns the main antagonist of this part, which is better not to mention at all, in order to avoid a spoiler.
Thus, the writers were able to write a smart sequel to the exhaled movie - the series, thanks to the nostalgic feelings associated with the first two films cycles - to give loyal fans of Cameron's paintings and leave a curious reserve for an even more interesting sequel (especially since this time someone - who stayed, and not just stayed - but received unprecedented for him abilities). I hope “Skynet” will not be like the ineradicable mutants from “Residence Evil”, and in the next film will finally suffer defeat, because still I would not like that “Terminator” turned into a kind of movie version of a computer game, the sequels of which can be stamped indefinitely. Everything that has a beginning has an end, I hope the authors understand this, and soon will end one of the greatest sagas in the history of cinema with an incredibly cool and no less intelligent film.
In the meantime, something that was even afraid to hope for happened - a new one appeared that could stand on a par with the very first Terminator films. In which the perfect balance between spectacular action, well-written plot including in addition to fights and healthy humor, as well as excellent acting work. With his role as Kyle Reese, the unloved Jai Courtney was completely rehabilitated for his past failures in cinema. Emilia Clarke became a cool Sarah Connor - not an infantile waitress, but a warrior girl (nothing surprising, because the orphan girl was raised by the Terminator!). Lately, the lit up seems everywhere possible Jason Clarke played the leader of humanity John Connor in a slightly different manner than previous performers of this role. I have nothing against him personally, although if Christian Bale were in this image (given what happened to him), the role of John in this film would be more dramatic, given Bale’s ability to convey the emotions of his characters with one eye and a grin. The role of “Liquid Metal” in “Genesis” is not at all large, since it is no longer the central enemy of the heroes, but only one of the enemies, so there can be no special claims to Lee Byung-hon who played it (I will only note that he is dressed as a hero of Robert Patrick in a police uniform). A funny role in J.K. Smmons is a cop “turned” on mysterious personalities moving through time, which someone does not believe. Personally, this character seemed to me a worthy replacement for another “comedian relief” of the first paintings – a psychiatrist watching Connor.
I will no longer review films in my reviews.
Move only in a straight line and do not turn anywhere.
- What if there is a stone wall ahead?
- Are you the smartest?! Get your head down!
A difficult story has developed in the franchise about “Terminator”. First came two films by James Cameron. And they were brilliant, because there was a place for an interesting idea, philosophy, drama, fantastic action movie and what! Also, there were wonderful actors and I, for example, when I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger or Robert Patrick on the screen, first of all I thought about their roles in The Terminator. And the musical accompaniment of the film was incomparable. Then came the third film. The film, which like the fifth episode of the Star Wars franchise, tried to show that Skynet could hit back. Yes, of course, the film was weak in all respects, since for the most part it played the scenes from the first two parts, but in its own way. Although, for the sake of justice, it is worth noting that there were interesting finds in the picture and the same scene in the cemetery cuts into memory ... well, Schwarzenegger's character in a specific outfit, yes. Then comes the movie number four, where the action took place in the future... finally! After all, many viewers have been waiting for this since we were shown excerpts from the war with machines in the first films. The fourth film went somewhere wrong. No, it was even good in its own way, but it was at odds with the story told by Cameron and therefore fans, for the most part, did not accept the fourth film. And here comes the fifth movie. A film that caused conflicting feelings with just a promotional trailer. A film that was supposed to be a kind of second chance for the aging Schwarzenegger to return to big cinema, particularly blockbusters. And you know what? When I went to the premiere of the film, I crossed my fingers and hoped that the film was not bad. Not even for the sake of Terminator itself, as we have canonical two parts, and everything else is an attempt to capitalize on the fame of a franchise about the struggle of people and machines. I crossed my fingers for Iron Arnie, because he was my childhood idol and it would be nice to see a couple more blockbusters with him. Even if he did not play the main role there, and would appear in a cameo ala Morgan Freeman and handle everything with words, but still it would be good, do you think? Have my expectations been met? Unfortunately not.
And the main, but not the only problem in this film is that its creators decided to completely rewrite the lore of the Terminator universe. In other words, the fifth film begins with John Connor sending Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah from machine attacks, but the war is over. Yeah. Skynet's main headquarters was destroyed, and thus the events of Part II never happened. Not a bad start, do you think? Then more. Arriving at the scene, Kyle Reese turns out to be a green snot who is really not able to resist the car and for most of the film he will walk, frown and sometimes express his pf to the world, his companions and screenwriters in particular. And the father of all mankind is saved by Sarah Connor on a couple with the T-800, which replaced the girl’s dead parents and raised her as a daughter. Yes, if it goes on like this, the sixth part of the franchise will begin with the fact that a horde of Terminators will be sent for a paralyzed great-grandmother Sarah Connor, well, well, well, to stop John. At the same time, who sent the Terminator to Sarah's past does not know not only John Connor, but also Skynet. Probably the writers do not know, but in the franchise about “Terminator” must be Schwarzenegger, so you have to somehow get out. Never mind. But what is important is that the trio of heroes faces the next T-1000, which can be stopped by releasing into the last clip of the pistol. Yes, I've also been fascinated by this, but writers have a better idea of how a better model of a cyborg killer should behave, yes. Sorry, I'm distracted. So the heroes are faced with the T-1000, as well as the fact that the end of the world is postponed until 2017, when the world will take over a new artificial intelligence, which all but our heroes are called “Genesis”. What does it have to do with Judgment Day? In any case, the characters are teleported to the future, where they will meet resistance leader John Connor, who also used a teleporter and who... should not exist, because Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor did not share a bed. Although... and you still care about the stream of consciousness of the writers that crossed out all the plot developments of the first two films and gave this? I have to admit, I don’t care about that at all.
The second problem is not even the lack of philosophical subtext in the story, but the fact that the action scenes do not cause any feelings. Well, something explodes there, the terminators occasionally blow each other, but not too much, after all, Arnold Schwarzenegger is already old and he can not run and jump as before, and therefore soulless computer graphics does everything for him. So what is happening is like an attraction, with the only difference that you look at it from the outside, and not participate in this butch.
The third problem is the actors. Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney don’t even try to play. Emotions, if they visit their faces, look too playful and implausible. There is no chemistry between the actors. They only speak a learned language and only that. Arnold Schwarzenegger's situation is much better, and it really has become a walking encyclopedia... it's not for nothing that I compared him to Morgan Freeman. And his attempts to be emotional, to blend in with the crowd, really bring a genuine smile, and when the T-800 smiles, it is very difficult to contain laughter. Also pleasantly pleased Jason Clark, who managed to adequately embody the image of his hero on the screen and whose hero really believe.
Outcome? “Terminator: Genesis” is another picture whose task is to take money from the population and he copes with this task perfectly. Yes, there are explosions, chases, shootings, and people who haven’t seen the previous installments of the franchise are likely to be thrilled, much to the displeasure of Dr. Emmett Brown. But on the other hand, if the viewer continues to vote with the ruble for such crafts, then the scriptwriters will write stories “on the back”, the actors will simply stand in the frame without showing any feelings and emotions, and special effects will become not impressive, but ordinary. Do you really want to see this movie in the future?

I have not written negative reviews for a long time, but in my opinion it was time to write just a negative review, I did not quite understand what the meaning of this film is, I have already seen many scenes, as I have seen other movie fans, the only thing that catches the film is Arnie's play, he is unmatched, all the humor throughout the film was from Arnie, his smile was just harp, but one Arnie film can not save, he is unique of course, but the script was so terrible that even cool Arnie did not save the film.
My main claim is related to the script, the plot of the film is not that bad, it is terrible, everyone was mixed in one pile, and it turned out to be absolutely talentless film, and everything began very well, as soon as the film began I could not take my eyes off the picture, the stunning world, then everything collapses, the spectacular appearance of Arnie, the battle with machines, the new T-1000 was unmatched, but it was a very spectacular battle with him, I thought that throughout the film it would be the main villain, and as soon as the film ceased to appear in the movie, as the other film, I do not see how the main thing for me, John was not always someone else, but I did not look at the scene for me.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, The best thing that was in this film, despite his age, he looks almost perfect, he fights, he jokes, he talks more interesting than anyone, watching his game is a pleasure, a real legend.
Jason Clarke, I'm not thrilled with his performance, I haven't seen John Connor in him, I don't see him, the only thing I liked was his scars.
Emilia Clark, I can’t say anything bad about her performance, young Sarah looked very good in her performance.
Jay Courtney has said and will continue to say that he is not suited to play key characters, most of all he is suited to the roles of villains, or secondary characters.
It is sad to actually see what the brainchild of James Cameron turned into, the first two films were masterpieces, the third part despite all the criticism was not the worst, looked generally decent, in the 4th part despite all the blunders there was an interesting plot, a very interesting character Marcus Wright and incomparable Christian Bale, the 5th part seemed absolutely empty and meaningless, for me it is necessary to finish with the Terminator.

So, another attempt to bring the universe to life, which was once given to us by the wonderful James Cameron. Unkillable robots, Skynet, you know everything. The first two attempts were frankly bad and unsavory compared to the original and sequel. Let’s see, did the creators succeed in correcting a series of failures?
The film throws us on the last day of the war, when Skyne is looking for a way out of the situation. And yet he finds it, sending all of us familiar T 800 in the past to kill Sarah Connor.
"Have you mated yet?"
This is the title that fits the first half of the film. What happens in the beginning changes the Terminator universe very much and it's striking. Remember the first part of The Terminator being crushed by the press? Now, no, he's killed by a high-caliber rifle. The creators tried to cross the first two films from the universe and it turned out to be a selective such porridge, this is the problem of almost all films about time travel, when the rules of the universe change and there are no docking. The characters changed their character traits (why?). The only plus of the first half of the picture is the references and exactly the shots from the first part. That's all, there's no more pluses. The action there is boring, there is little liquid terminator and in general there is only a little. But there are plenty of shackles in the script. I could not leave the feeling that the work on the script and the shooting was conducted simultaneously, and after half was shot, the director said: “In general, guys, we are going to have a big failure, let’s do everything in a human way, or they throw tomatoes.” To be honest, I wanted to leave the hall, but I decided to check, not for nothing I spent money on viewing.
I didn't regret it. The second half begins to accelerate, the jambs and plot holes are no longer so noticeable, his majesty action and Arnold Schwarzenegger come to the first role. All this is attached not bad computer graphics and operator work, although it does not shine with any features, but everything is filmed well. I really liked the helicopter chase scene. Explosions, terminators and blows of a huge reinforcement on the heroes looks very impressive.
The actors also did not disappoint, Schwartz even in his years did not lose the charisma that made him famous. The main defender of the Connor family is quite humorous, often, though repeated. Humor in the film is not bad, fun and gives a break after the action scenes. Emilia Clarke is a little short of Linda Hamilton, she has no charm, unfortunately. Well done anyway. Jai Courtney, who I consider to be a very average actor, also tried, but thanks to the script, instead of the classic Kyle Reese (fearless, confident, charismatic) we got, I dare say, clown ala Shia LaBeouf in Transformers. There's no question about Jason Clark. He played well, and his appearance is very suitable for his role. I didn't like J.K. Simmons. Give him the role of a fanatic, which no one believes, well, it’s not very.
As a result: the film turned out with a huge pile of shoals in the script, but with a good action, if not for the first half of the film, then a solid 7.5, and so on.

P.S. They say that even if the film fails at the box office, the sequel will still be. Eh, these once interesting franchises weren't the cash cows they're turned into. Comment of a young viewer after watching the film on the proposal of his father:
- And let's go home and I'll show you 3 parts and how it all started there?
- Why? They're so boring.
How long have we been waiting for that movie and the cyborg to come along and it's back! Yes, it is! It’s not that anyone can accept a robot that has entered our minds forever, but the fact that it did already makes it clear how important its existence is. The last part was an intriguing event, even more so than that, but Arnold’s reappearance made us get back on our feet!
The creators decided to call the next part “Genesis”. On the one hand, the name of the painting is alarming. But if you look closely, it makes a huge difference! In addition, there will be three Terminators in the film, which is a big plus: one of which will be the liquid metal T-1000 played by Lee Byung-hon (thought he was not suitable for the role, but changed his mind) although the other was worse, I am still afraid! And the long-awaited duel between the first and second T-800. In fact, we can say that all the epics, sagas and parts began with The Terminator, for which I must say thank you. But the best part is that the future will be decided and there will be no war between robots and humans. True time travel with the help of an electric leap that made huge holes in all films, a painful sensation! In addition, the current Terminator, as Sarah put it, “will not be afraid, will not abandon in difficult times, ready always to protect and give his life.” One thing is troubling: the fate of Marcus Ride - among all he remained a man.
Most of all, the Terminator, who arrived in the past in the second part of 2039, did not die in the end! I think he was the most perfect of all the others. And Schwarzenegger did well anyway, and more than once. But in this case, I would like to see new movements and features. And not just I'll be back. He was distinguished by the fact that he could be alive, at least for us, and everything he did will remain eternal!
I’m really looking forward to J.K. Simmons taking a huge pause after Spider-Man and I think he’ll do his part. Maybe his character looks like Dr. Silberman!
The studio that decided to do Terminator will not only be Raramaount, but also Skydance, which was engaged in the latest Mission Impossible, but still doubts remain about the quality and nature of the film, and yet I am confident that it will meet our expectations! But the big question is, will the film be the way we imagined it? Of course it will. After all, despite all the innovations, we know that the real exciting action does not happen by chance, and Schwarzenegger every time gives part of a simple idea of a good action movie.
True, the plot worries me a little, after all, a break with temporal reality, now the robot protects Sarah Connor and not Kyle Reese and even new ways to prevent a technical breakthrough Skynet, will not be far off, and it is unlikely that modern ideas in the script will be able to change the film for the better. Right away, I felt sorry for Miles Dyson. I can still understand the similarity of John, Kyle and Sarah with their previous images played by Linda Hamilton, Anton Yelchin and others. But I have my doubts about the truck on the bridge or the recurring scenes from past movies: the smile John asked the Terminator to make in the second part or the famous phrase. There were some special features or words in the trilogy, and so the film should bring something new, but not necessarily good. Since, for example, Cameron, having advised the Terminator to make gray hair, has already enriched “this” picture with special properties!
The emergence of new actors is not surprising, after so many years, a lot of things “may” have changed, but I will still miss Linda Hammilton. The franchise has undergone significant changes, which is not good for us, but the creators managed to embody those images that were lost over time, and some have not changed for the better. Not only that, Jai Courtney is filmed there (in principle, almost unlike his predecessors), so Emilia Clarke managed to shove there. For example, I haven’t watched any of the Game of Thrones episodes, which is good, and watching every season is pure madness. Despite my charm, I saw her as a normal Sarah Connor. I admit, one of the posters makes her look attractive, but I still think Clark is just an actress. Besides, she had black curls, and Sarah had blonde hair, which was very beautiful!
Despite all the other parts, the return of the era of the future in the 2009 film was spectacular, and the performer of the role of Marcus Ride (the next Terminator) Sam Worthington brilliantly coped with the role, and I will miss such a brave hero. Of course, we expected the Terminator – Arnold Schwarzenegger, but still he was, albeit with the body of R. Kikinger made by computer graphics at the end of the film, but how spectacular! And a lot of interesting and tragic was in this part: well, I can not forget the words of John Connor played by Christian Bale: “... the command asks to perform clear and cold duties, but we are not machines, and will be like them, then what is the point in victory!”
And despite all the parts, I certainly remember the third part where the Judgment Day began. There was a lot I didn’t understand, but since 2003 I’ve been dreaming of seeing this guy who hid in the dark on a tape poster with T-X. Only then did it come true. No matter which part is better or which is worse, the main thing is that he will remain a saint to us. And not the robot itself, but our world, because James Cameron was trying to tell us the importance of our world. Yes, we take some of the future seriously, but we can just live, and then it will be, because it is not for nothing that the Terminator said to John then: “Fight and never give up!”
And every day, we need to remember a phrase that plays an important role in our lives. From John Connor.
Not far away. The Skynet computer program has killed three billion people – machines rule the Earth. Survivors organize resistance groups in the hope of destroying the rebellious artificial intelligence. One of the operations, led by military leader John Connor (Clark), is a success, but Skynet is ready for such a development. A Terminator is sent into the past - a killer robot whose target is John's mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke). He is followed in time by the right hand of military commander Kyle Rees (Jay Courtney), who hopes to stop the cyborg and thereby save the world.
Fans of the Terminator franchise believe that there are only two parts in it - the same ones that James Cameron staged. Two more films, directed by other directors (Jonathan Mostow and McGee), are perceived more as fan fiction, variations on a classic theme. Among them, Alan Taylor’s “Genesis” joins – either a sequel or a replay, but in fact a completely unnecessary rethinking of one of the best fantastic stories of the twentieth century.
What did Cameron's Terminator do? First of all, originality. Fresh story, innovative concept robots, written from scratch exciting idea. “Genesis”, unfortunately, can not boast of anything similar, relying on the achievements of its predecessors. The main screenplay was ugly leaked to the public in the trailer, and the new Terminator, which was supposed to, apparently, become the beauty and pride of the film (although wait, there is Arnie!), treacherously resembles the good old T-1000 - albeit somewhat modernized. The one, by the way, also appears - that's just no new tricks for more than twenty years has not learned, only changing the face of Robert Patrick not the appearance of the Korean star Lee Ben-hon.
The success of science fiction, as a rule, is its logic - when the viewer clearly understands what is happening, it is easier for him to perceive what is happening, feel the atmosphere, empathize with the characters. In the classic dilogy, Cameron chewed everything to the bone, and that was her trump card - the causes, effects and motivations were in place, two plus two gave four, you didn't have to break your brains. In Genesis, the public is hit on the head from the very beginning with parallel timelines and contortions in the continuum - even if you want to understand, you will not get to the truth. “Just like that,” says Taylor, and now the gray-haired Schwarzenegger shoots a shotgun at himself young.
Arnold is a key figure in the franchise, and without his consent, Genesis probably wouldn’t exist at all. Unlike the fourth film, where the former governor of California only had a cameo, Schwarzenegger is back in earnest, which is perhaps the only good news. Arnie’s presence in the frame not only adds soulfulness and nostalgic notes to the picture – they say, but remember in the 80s. His T-800 also turns out to be a great comedy character - if you take what is happening as a parody, even Courtney's facial expression is not so annoying.
"Genesis" is associated with Cameron's films only by name - it is a naive and not the most inventive modern blockbuster, who wanted to partake in the eternal, but did not care about a solid foundation, hoping solely on the powerful personality of Schwarzenegger. Without the signature “I’ll be back” was not enough, but this is not the case when you hope that Arnold will keep his promise. Better stop right now.
Older Arnie, young Arnie, Sarah Conor, Genesis – another cool story.
Cool. Absolutely.
I will not take up your valuable time and briefly outline the main pros and cons.
Pluses.
Special effects are worth considering. Quality, spectacular, powerful and certainly better than in the previous parts.
Game of actors. I really enjoyed Schwarzenegger throughout the film. And let someone say that Arnie is no longer a cake, for me he was and is a great actor with great form and outstanding achievements.
The phrase "old but not useless" became a little sad. Not an old one!
Jason Clark was pleased, I will also note the game of Emilia Clark, a very touching heroine she came out. Jai Courtney also showed himself from the best side, created a quite suitable, pleasant character.
There was no light on the background of Arnie and thank God.
Dynamics of what is happening.
What I love about these movies is that no one stands still. Everyone runs somewhere, shoots, falls - all this is insanely fascinating.
Minuses.
Plot. The plot is generally good, but throughout the picture there was a feeling that too much was covered. Time loops, alternative time, memories that did not exist.
And all the spatial explanations of the characters generate more questions than answers.
For example: Who sent Arnie to guard a nine-year-old girl? Who sent an Asian Terminator to kill little Sarah? Why hasn’t the future changed if the past has changed? And so on.
Result.
I think Terminator Genesis will be interesting for both adults who have seen old movies and younger generations. There's a lot to see in the movie. A good, exciting action movie, like all the previous parts.
I highly recommend it!
I did not expect a miracle from Genesis. In fact, it was a medium handed movie. But the result exceeded those expectations.
Speaking of the story, I think the authors did the right thing. To tie any events to Part 3 or Part 4 would be simply unrealistic. But to fantasize on the theme "And what would have happened if ..." based on the strength of the plot of the first two parts - the scriptwriters coped with this perfectly.
As for the characters, surprises begin here. The faces seem familiar. And it was amazing how many twists and turns happen to them! It seems like everything is familiar... After a quarter of an hour everything is unknown. In the whole picture I have never taken off the screen.
Separately, I want to say about Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yeah, he's getting old, you can see. But... "not useless!" His dialogues with Sarah Connor throughout the film make him think sometimes, and sometimes laugh heartily. His attempts to portray emotions... It just needs to be seen. The rest of the actors didn't. From Jason Clark was a charismatic negative character. Jay Courtney fit well into the image of Kyle Riis - the same soldier to the bone, which was his predecessor - Sean Bean. Emilia Clark managed to show the "other" Sarah Connor - a very tough and cool person.
As for the performance, everything is balanced. Jokes and humor are competently intertwined with scenes that make you worry about the main characters. I especially want to highlight the good work of the operator - he did not miss a single important moment. The musical accompaniment is a little underrated. It turned out to be something not very memorable. The situation is slightly straightened by a familiar musical theme at the end.
In general, it turned out to be a very spectacular, strong fantastic action movie. He certainly does not claim to be a masterpiece, but he is able to give a great mood.
8 out of 10
Terminator Genesis begins with the end of the war in the future. The machines realized that they were losing the war and decided to use their last trump card – to send back the Terminator T-800 to eliminate the mother of dragons (Emilia Clark) in the past, even before the birth of John Connor (Jason Clark). The set exactly repeats the first film, except for one – everything that happens in the future is shown to the viewer. It was shown that at that moment people divided their forces to strike in two directions - at the main center of Skynet in Colorado and at one of its bases, where the world's first time machine is stationed. As a result, artificial intelligence dies, but manages to do its insidious work. John realizes that he needs to send his father back in time to protect his mother, and sends him back to the time of the first James Cameron film. But not everything went according to plan and John threw a little into the alternate past, where his lover works not as a waitress, but takes headshots from the desert Eagle, while holding a weapon in one hand. This is where Genesis begins. The official trailers did a detrimental thing, prospoilering one of the main unexpected twists in the film. And it's really unexpected and could make some of the viewers chill.
Director Alan Taylor (Thor 2, Game of Thrones) made a good movie, playing on the originality. The creators cleverly linked the iconic first film to the newly minted blockbuster, with some scenes being repeated with some adjustments. There are two such scenes, and the trailers also showed them. Now imagine there were no trailers. That would be a bomb! This is the first time I’ve seen a trailer before the movie.
Actors
I want to praise all actors, especially Arnold Schwarzenegger. His character is quite interesting, because we have not yet seen the aging Terminator; the actor himself did not shake up and gave the best possible work on the image. We add to the effect of nostalgia and get a bomb. Arnie plays the kind of Terminator he was in the second part of the franchise. This is how many viewers like it and it also affects the overall impression. I experienced puppy delight when the evil terminator in the first part pronounces the phrase in the direction of the Gopniks in a robotic voice: “Give me your clothes, now”, and then behind his back is heard “You will not need clothes” in the same voice. Many people saw the scene in the trailer.
Emilia Clarke exceeded expectations. When I looked at her, I did not see the brown-born queen of the Andals, I saw the protector, the lioness, the warrior. This was Sarah Connor everywhere: in the first two parts of the saga and in the chronicles of Sarah Connor. She looks nothing like Linda Hamilton. She wants to be praised and praised. Emilia managed to keep the image of a strong mother who is ready to fight for a good fate. Now Jason Clarke. Incredible. I've never seen a movie with him before, which I regret. He plays John Connor here and plays really well. He has two images: the classic John, and John, who went back in time. These are two completely different people. Both characters Jason Clark managed to enrich his charisma. As a result, the entire cast brilliantly coped with their tasks. Among such talented actors, even Jai Courtney is not lost.
About the film
Now back to the movie. There was a lot of humor. There are plenty of ridiculous scenes. It's like the creators looked at Marvel's success and decided to stuff a bunch of jokes. The Terminator has never been so funny. On the one hand it is bad, and on the other it is good. The bad thing is that the atmosphere of the original Terminator is collapsing, you watch what is happening without the old man, although with concern for the main characters. Part of the seriousness instantly disappears, and in its place come suitable jokes on terminator topics. And that's good, too. What happens in the film is that real people would be ironic about it, too. I’ve never heard any jokes about it, because it just wasn’t in the movies. And the audience likes to laugh sometimes. There has to be a balance anyway. It's here. During action scenes really not to joke and have to worry about the lives of the main characters, and during a smoke break you can take the spirit away, laughing at funny situations, of which the film is full.
But the realism of what is happening died along with the age rating. The PG-13 Terminator? Are you serious? For a place of realistic makeup with blood computer graphics? Terminator 4 was a disgusting movie, but it had one virtue: minimal graphics. Almost all Terminators were modeled by artists in nature, not on a computer. The only exception is the T-800 at the end, but you can see it there. It was necessary to show the Terminator in active action. However, the benefit of bare metal on the bodies of cyborgs in the process edited. In the first trailers you could only cry, because it was like a budget Photoshop. In the final version added a little meat, but still the feeling is not the same.
The plot is good enough. As an ardent fan, I first tried to delve into all the dates of the doomsdays, but then I realized that this was not a noble cause. Doomsday has been rescheduled 4 times in different stories within the Terminator universe. This is no longer funny, and the end of this story is not yet seen, although it seems that Genesis puts an end. I would have believed it if the creators hadn’t said it was a trilogy. I’m sure if you look for some script holes, they will be found. I just saw a couple of them, but this is a time travel movie. It is, by the way, very confusing and leaves a couple of mysteries. For example, who sent Papps to protect Sarah Connor? There is no answer to this question in Genesis, but I am sure it will continue.
In the end, the film turned out great. Good action, great actors, interesting plot. In the end, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays here in his role of the iron Arnie and like no way this is a long-awaited film in the cult universe. And humor. I admit, wow, there was no effect after watching, but I was pleased. Maybe it’s because I saw Mad Max recently, and it’s much stronger than the new Terminator. “Terminator: The Battle for the Future” was much deeper. Still, I recommend going to the movies absolutely everyone, even fans of Japanese cartoons. Terminator, like no other, is an event in cinema. And Emilia Clarke in the Terminator, and even as Sarah Connor, is a fairy tale.
To properly evaluate this movie, it is necessary to abstract from the fact that the first 2 films of this series are masterpieces. Which, although created, of course, for profit, but were made by the outstanding director James Cameron, who put his soul into these creations. Starting with the third part of the masterpiece, you need to forget, and remember that we have a pop fast food focused on teenagers, the purpose of which is the same - to collect a good cash register, but there is no soul in it, just like Cameron. If we evaluate the product from this point of view, and not from the point of view of correlating with high art, then T3, T4, and T5, of course, stars from the sky are missing, but they are not an outright failure.
The current, that is, the fifth "Terminator" in its conceptual content is focused, to a greater extent, on the third film of the series: again the main characters are a man and a woman, again there is a romantic line between them, again they want to destroy Skynet, again they are protected by an outdated model of the Terminator, T-800, and against them acts a powerful super-Terminator, again the character of Schwartz is a partially comedic hero, designed to add a share of humor to the plot. Thanks to the T-800, Genesis is a comedy. Of course, first of all, we have a fantastic action movie, but it is impossible to call it serious - the plot of Genesis is replete with such a pile of various half-absurdities that you are amazed. Funny and slightly ridiculous T-800 saves the situation, turning these semi-absurdities into a comedy. That is, what is unforgivable to a serious film, is forgivable to a comedy film.
It is nice that the authors continued the line on the complication of the terminator-antagonist: in the first film it was an ordinary primitive T-800, in the second – T-1000, “liquid metal”, in the third – T-X, the “mixture” of a robot with a hard frame and “liquid metal”, that is, a combined version of the two previous antagonists, in the fourth film they refused to increase the complication, but in the fifth again they returned to it: before us the supercomplext terminator T-3000, he is no longer quite a person, but also not an authentic machine, as he did not himself. However, it is impossible to say that the fourth part did not affect the formation of the image of the antagonist in the fifth part at all: it was in T4 that a character was first introduced, which is complex in terms of its identity - Marcus Wright - seemingly still partially human, at least in his consciousness, in his personality, but already at the same time a terminator. If in the first three parts it was simple: it was either a human or a robot (Kyle Reese insisted in the first part that the T-800 is a cyborg, but this is a mistake of the writers, since the cyborg is a biological organism with mechanical components, and not an android with a biological shell to give the appearance of a human), then in the fourth part the essence of Marcus Wright, who is the first real cyborg to appear in this series of films, is the main question, the main “nerve” of “Terminator 4” – who is in front of us: more man or more machine? Which side will he take: the side of the people or Skynet? Marcus has free will and chooses the side of people. In T5, the antagonist does not have this free will, Skynet took it from him, so he stands on the side of the machines.
I liked that we continued the line with the Skynet complication started in T3. If in the first two films Skynet is described as an artificial intelligence in the form of a subject localized in space, that is, roughly speaking, this is such a machine located somewhere specifically, then in the finale T3 is already a subject of the network, whose consciousness, although unified, is “sputtered” throughout the Internet, thus in T3 Skynet appears decentralized. In T5, the Skynet structure is described as a combined version of these concepts: a single Skynet center still exists, but it has a plan to capture human technology over the Internet, for this Skynet develops a revolutionary operating system that people put on their technical devices: PCs, smartphones, tablets, etc., and Skynet then with the help of this OS gets power over them, or rather plans to do it. This concept of Skynet is more realistic than in T3, because in fact, if artificial intelligence is ever invented, then it will need complex equipment for its existence, it will not exist on a conventional PC, however, despite this fact, according to the story of T3 Skynet has spread around the world, penetrated everything that supports the Internet, that is, decentralized and “lives” on all kinds of media. The center where Skynet originally existed can be blown up, but now Skynet is in every computer, so destroying any particular place will not save humanity.
In general, the concept of decentralisation of artificial intelligence received its prototype in the second part, where the "imperfect" The T-800, which had a permanent, solid, non-plastic and unchangeable structure and a single specific control center, a microchip located in the head, was contrasted with the more advanced T-1000, whose structure was plastic, shape variable, and a single control center was absent. The creators of Rise of the Machines took this T-1000 concept and extended it to Skynet. The creators of Genesis did the same with respect to the T-X, they took as a basis the idea of a robot that has a rigid framework, a single specific control center, but covered with variable “liquid metal”, and transferred this idea (the existence of the center and the network controlled by it) to the image of the whole Skynet.
Also amusing was the humanization of the T-800. We saw some semblance of humanity in the T-800 in the second part, when the Terminator sacrifices himself to save humanity, and in the third part, when the Terminator fights the commands to kill John Connor that T-X introduced into it. But this similarity is exactly similar, since the T-800 does not experience direct emotions and emotional feelings de jure. The creators of the “Genesis” increased the humanity of the T-800 not even to the maximum level, but to the beyond. But since the T-800’s emotionality and sensuality are nonsense that contradicts previous installments, the fifth film portrays them as a joke. Don't take this seriously. And, it’s worth saying this joke line really succeeded, for example, the T-800’s paternal behavior looks really cute and funny. Thus, we can treat this as a non-serious stupidity of the writers. But you can see something philosophical if you want: the T-800, though not a person, but he still has consciousness, and any consciousness has a certain spark of God, that is, somehow, has the ability to feel, the ability to change itself and strive for good. However, the formulation of such philosophical questions here is somewhat secondary, since before us is not high art, but purely fast food pop entertainment. But, despite this, "Terminator: Genesis" - the movie is quite kind, cute and funny.
He is back!
The first two paintings about the Terminator became a real cultural heritage of the United States, classics of their genre, which soon received the status of cult. At a time when technology was just developing, the first film of the young director James Cameron about a cyborg killer and about an unknown frightening future, amazed not only with its visuality, but also with its idea. The innovator and dreamer endowed his paintings not only with cold-blooded murder and war, but also managed to give them grace, subtlety and sensuality. It so happened that in the current time of high technology, the main emphasis began to be placed on the visual component, which does not always contribute to the retention of the plot itself, and gradually loses its ardour. Following the mass of sequels and remakes, the queue reached the “Terminator”, which, when viewed again, is able to rekindle the same spark of nostalgia and euphoria that lurked somewhere deep, in the past childhood.
The future is uncertain. This catchphrase of Cameron’s paintings gave the green light to future directors of “Terminators”, becoming something of a cover for plot holes and absurdities, or their complete disregard. The creators of the new "Terminator", dubbed "Genesis", also began to adhere to this concept, according to their slogan, decided to rewrite fate. As a result of direct intervention in old favorite films, skepticism appears, which begins to fight with a spark of hope, and surprisingly this time the latter wins, since the parallel drawn is presented in a careful and neat manner that shows respect for the original picture, and such a narrative rather contributes to the ignition of that bright highlight.
The coveted director's chair went to Alan Taylor - one of the directors of the series "Game of Thrones". As for the main character Sarah Connor, the young British actress Emilia Clarke, known for the aforementioned series, is the most successful replacement for Linda Hamilton. In principle, Jason Clarke is also pleasantly received by John Connor, but the most unexpected thing is that the actor of dubious reputation Jai Courtney does a good job with the role of Kyle Reese. Thanks to the T-800 Terminator's famous expression "I'll be back," Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to his popular character. Given the young age of the actor, the situation is saved by the idea of Cameron himself, who decided to explain the situation by the fact that the living tissue of the Terminator can age. It is not for nothing that the new tape is perceived by Cameron as a continuation of the first two films, since against the general background the third and fourth seem superfluous, due to the lack of the former spirit of the old films.
“Terminator: Genesis” is the most diverse, because it affects several time periods. This kind of narrative, which includes time travel, forms some plot holes that you do not even want to pay attention to because of the charming and nostalgic atmosphere, and it is not so much in the familiar surroundings as in the unrestrained dynamic rhythm, because the picture captures immediately and does not let go to the end. In order to give the viewer a break, the action from time to time is suspended, limited only to short dialogues, which are often interrupted to resume this exciting game. The creators still try to smooth the blame with all sorts of explanations, due to the resulting plot complications, which cause a lot of questions, although sometimes they hide behind phrases from the category of “Data Leakage”. A past that has become different is unfamiliar and unexpected; a world that has to be saved again, and a rift in time between past and present events. In fact, the story takes much more complex turns than expected, and if you compare it with the original films of James Cameron, then those that at one time are unimaginable and fantastic, compared to the new picture seem simplistic and simple. Not to say that this depicts a predominant feature of Genesis, but rather the opposite – it makes it confusing and hard to accept. A similar number of incidents and storylines can fit into several films, respectively, so the heterogeneity and mixture of Genesis, it is difficult to call as such a trump card, because Cameron was much better at coping with less rich material. Nevertheless, the new “Terminator” justifies itself, because in addition to repeating some events from the past, it introduces something new from itself, albeit in a complex and unusual form, but presented in a confident, energetic and rather charismatic form, especially with amusing jokes and whipping music. One thing remains constant: the battle for the future.
In terms of tension, concentration and thoroughness, the new “Terminator” is clearly inferior to the early paintings of the respected James Cameron, however, it is not necessary to liken them at all, because the tape of Alan Taylor can be perceived differently, especially since it does not defile old films, but simply takes the foundation laid in them and recreates a fresh canvas on it. “Genesis” is a new story, a view from the other side, holding a different point of view, let’s call it a kind of interpretation of the director, which is almost entirely based on the main characters, where the relationship between the characters and the heating atmosphere are important. It is sentiments, drives, experiences, falling in love and emotions that generate and create an impressive picture, capable of boasting not only loud explosions and a shooting range, but also ordinary feelings, because in the Terminator, behind all this wild and unstoppable energy, there has always been a humanity capable of compassion, even for a machine. The creators, taking into account these details, do not stop at the surface, but penetrate deeper, into the heart, adding to this enviable mixture a pinch of their fun and dramatic performance.
Now I catch the minuses, judging by the rating of world critics, but not sorry. In fact, the impressions of Terminator 5 are contradictory, but rather positive.
After the disastrous and terrible 3 and 4 parts of the Terminator, much was not expected from Genesis, despite all the claims of the creators. And then they give us the idea that the film has almost nothing to do with 1-2 parts, absolutely nothing with 3-4 parts (it is for the better), and this is quite autonomous. Because the heroes, thanks to skillfully inverted temporal collisions, received for themselves a “fate from a white sheet”. The creators did well, you can’t hide.
But, after 3-4 parts, Terminator: Genesis looks like the most logical continuation of the series of the first two films. More than once you notice directorial techniques and templates of parts 1 and 2. Same idea, same chips. In a slightly new way. On the one hand, what was good in the last century, in today’s no longer pulls. On the other hand, all this causes such a sweet nostalgia that you even somehow get involved in a plot that does not shine with genius or some revelations, but is quite thought out, logical, and if anything - everything is explained by temporary distortions and a bunch of wise words.
About the actors... Schwartz is still good. The film added a lot of jokes and jokes with his participation, very much to the place. Emilia Clarke and Courtney fit perfectly into the plot. Although, of course, that pumped Jai Courtney to Michael Bean, that Emilia to Linda Hamilton with her character and expression, too – nothing in common. The only one I didn’t like was Jason Clarke. This is not his image or his role. The man was as out of place as possible. He does not draw on the hero-savior of mankind in the beginning and on the subsequent events assigned to him by the plot. An obvious blunder.
The plot itself, as I wrote above, is quite well thought out, made with frequent glances at the first two parts, somewhere even with repetitions, but watching the fifth terminator, finally, was quite interesting. Is that not the main thing?
Yes, I would like to get from Terminator: Genesis of more. Not an offshoot of old ideas, but a logical continuation and development of events. After all, the idea is on the surface: take and film the moment of a nuclear disaster, such as Survival Horor ala Resident Evil, current not with zombies, but robots. Where people experience the apocalypse, how they settle down after it, how machines hunt them, how Connor becomes a militia leader and unites people. Here's part number one. And then the second part, as Connor and the Resistance fight the machines and defeat them, an awe-inspiring action movie. Still, it would seem very simple. But no, producers and directors want to find a difficult way and invent an eight-wheeled bicycle with hydraulic drive on rocket fuel, instead of a good, working and comfortable scooter with a motor.
In general, you can go to Terminator: Genesis. As close as possible to parts 1 and 2 in its atmosphere of the film. But not without flaws, alas.
This is the third film about the Terminator, which could be no worse than the second and first part, but did not become.
The director stuffed everything he could into the film, and the trailer felt like the film was doomed to be good: the liquid Terminator, Schwarzenegger, Lee Byung-hon, the new Terminator model. But it didn't. On the way out, we have a stupid, evil superterminator who, instead of finishing everyone off with one blow, leads long conversations with Sarah and her old boyfriend, who turned into a stupid pitch. Even Arnie pointed out that someone talks too much. Remember how much T-1000 talked in the second part and how much time the new artificial intelligence lost in the dialogue. How is this not like the logical behavior of the Terminators, which was in the films of Cameron?
The main cast is simply amazing: Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney should play in Twilight," not Terminator. Not a single moment that the director tries to present as sentimental, does not cling to life and leaves completely indifferent. Actors seem to be trying to squeeze emotions out of themselves, as a result of which they simply cannot empathize. The only person and actor with a capital letter who, despite his age, played the soulless Terminator again perfectly is Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is pleasant to look at him on the one hand, on the other hand, in this film he looks next to young actors as an honored artist on the stage of the theater next to students.
The name of Arnold Schwarzenegger is associated with many nostalgic memories from childhood, but the viewing in the cinema of the years 7-8 of the legendary second part is special. The oppressive atmosphere of hopelessness, excellent suspense, excellent style and sense of taste, the incredible mind of the director who invented this terrible world - although I think it is clear what a colossal impression James Cameron's film made on me. The third part brought only disappointment, the fourth was a pretty high-quality product, but without the figure of Arnold it all did not look real. Years of rumours and hopes, sarcastic jokes about the aging actor and his eventual return to his most famous role in nearly eighteen - yes, that was it all. But the first trailer of Terminator 5 dispelled any fears that the creators decided to abuse someone’s childhood memories.
Alan Taylor, the director is not young, who shot several feature films (the most famous “Thor 2”), but more specializing in the serial field, took up this project. And every viewer of the new “Terminator” should clearly realize that the film is not made by James Cameron (he is now only a co-producer), but only a good director who knows how to qualitatively copy the existing material and slightly dilute it with small new chips - such were the multiple time movements in the film. A careful approach to the history of the franchise allowed you to protect yourself from the angry attacks of fierce fans and, at the same time, create an excellent family blockbuster, knocking out of a series of similar ones at the expense of the figure of iron Arnie.
Without Schwarzenegger, there would be no new movie. The image of the Terminator that immortalized his name is back in action. And this is not some other attempt to return to the screen, but the most complete “I’ll be back”, with some assumptions, such as the fact that his naked torso no longer shows, and this despite the fact that he capitalized on the form after the “empty” for the cinema years of governorship. Mr. Olympia, however, is very kindly ironic about his age-related transformation - "Yes, I'm old, but I'm functioning," his hands shake, he has to straighten a naughty knee. But he does not lose his brutal charisma and sprinkles trademark lines “I’ll be back”, “get out”, “get off, asshole” and even fresh – “I’m stuck in traffic”.
The characters of the first part of the film get into an incredible adventure in time. Due to this, it was possible to look at and evaluate painfully familiar scenes from the first part of 1984 and stunned by the steep fight between the two terminators of the T-800 model - young and old Schwartz. But this is only the first half of the film, and then the story is served already from 2017, and here it is, although inferior to the quality of the cult canonical films, nevertheless captures no less. Stunned tight editing and always prepared spectacular scenes, the necessary portion of pathos and playing some scenes of “Judgment Day” in the new scenery is an incredible portion of fan service for every fan.
The authors of the film “Terminator: Genesis” did not abuse the memories of my childhood and gave the opportunity to feel like a child again, joyfully jumping from the beautiful spectacular “Disneyland with Arnie”. Any criticism of this film is groundless, because it is obvious that we are not waiting for the gloomy and pressing atmosphere of a hard fantastic thriller. In its modern form, The Terminator becomes somewhat of a family movie. And this does not spoil him at all, but on the contrary - for me personally it is a great happiness only to see Arnold Schwarzenegger again on the screen, and even in the role of the terminator.

Believe me... I went to Genesis full of intent to shatter the film. The passages were too clean, illogical and toothless. Trailers sprinkled spoilers and miscasts (Jay Courtney?) Seriously?? After watching the movie, I loved it. I'm in shock.
Genesis is a big blockbuster for the whole family. There is not even a drop of inflated horror that ruled the ball in the first two parts. And there is much more humor here than in the sequel (it is not for nothing that Cameron cut out a scene with Arnie smiling at the time - there are too many smiles in his performance). The proverbial logic is limping in every third scene (all Terminators-killers are ointments from God... unrealized chances to kill the main characters for the entire film will be scored with a few dozen). Added now fashionable trend - to send the laws of physics with Newton far away (well, you saw the scene with the bus and the reason why it turned over so ... nonsense).
But... At the same time, there is one factor that outweighs the shortcomings described above - the film in principle ... most of the time ... interesting to watch. It’s not the top of blockbuster art... I wouldn’t say the whole movie was sitting bent down closer to the screen. But -- it was interesting. The plot, despite numerous spoilers, still remained quite unpredictable. Action, of course, does not spit out the sequel, but there are a number of finds that perfectly develop the theme, for example, liquid terminator. Some of the tricks look so fresh at all. Director Aaron Taylor worked hard trying to make a kind of postmodern action - repeat chips from Cameron and turn new ones. In general, as far as directing is concerned, I personally thought it was the most similar in mood to Cameron’s. Mostow and McGee are much more distant in this regard. There's not as much misplaced humor here as there is in Terminator 3. And the characters are not as sluggish as in the triquel. More intriguing story arc than "Let the Savior Come." This movie is in principle more clear than a quadriquel.
On acting roles. Oh, miracle!!! Jay Courtney finally started playing. "Die Hard 5," "I, Frankenstein," "Divergent" personally buried my hopes for this ... buried three times. However, in the end it was not quite Michael Bean’s Kyle Reese, but very much such a hero. You can even say “not flat” about it. Amazing!
Emilia Clarke here is a kind of cross between Sarah Conor from the first and second Terminator ... to the pull-up car is not yet grown, but you can not make coffee to spread. Neha.
And finally, the most pleasant surprise - Arnie did not lose the Terminator charisma. The videos showed some old-age hope for the former recognition. But in the film, that feeling goes somewhere. Man.
As for Jason Clark (there are coincidences, just a mother and her son from the future starred in the same film) – he never really impressed me, and here it looks just less appropriate (unless the joy during the meeting with his mother played nightmare, fake-false).
As a result, the concept turned out – a kind of “Back to the Future 2”. We and the heroes run through the events of the first part to prevent a terrible disaster in the future. + More action. + More effects. + More time travel. By the way. Special effects are in order here (except for a couple of frames). Arnie rejuvenated very cool (which in the rollers and trailers for some reason is not visible at all). The ending is intriguing (Oh, Arnie, what will happen to you next?). It's a normal summer movie. Of course, inferior to the original and sequel. But better than many. I'll keep waiting. And demand more Matt Smith! And the Tardis! Okay, no Tardis.
Fan happiness is a complex subject, you can not build a movie on it alone, especially if there is a claim to still surpass the indestructible original of James Cameron.
In the new Terminator a lot of references to the original first and second parts. Tremblingly and gently, the authors return familiar episodes, iconic phrases and key scenes. All is well while the new creators play in resonance with the second cult part of the franchise, but once they set foot in their new territory and they are scuttled and the film begins to show all the sore spots of the modern big blockbuster. These sores beautifully climbed out on the second and third “pirates of the Caribbean”, when the movie breaks into pieces and now we are running from attraction to attraction. The action begins, a cool shootout, action and begona - and a break, talk, relax, prepare the viewer for a new outbreak of action. Then again the fight, the chase, the running and the fight - and again the break "to talk and reflect" and so on until the very end. As a result, starting beautifully and nostalgically (not without questions to logic and excessive pathos), the film slides into a series of fights and respite. Infinite and stupid.
No integrity. There is no central and all-consuming idea either. There is no tension or fear of the end of the world. Honestly, the apocalypse with the total destruction of people has already become such a common place that everyone is used to it. And audiences and movie heroes. And here it is — sidelined, nondescript and playing the role of the context of the narrative. Little by little we are reminded – what, look – they say, all with tablets and smartphones... This is where the end of communication and the end of humanity will engulf us in the global infotainment network!!! But — I repeat — all this glimpses ... along the way ... and again run and fight and shoot ... That's right, no tension. There is not and will not be the icy expression of Robert Patrick (T-1000), from whom the cold really ran down the back and it seemed that he was about to win and nothing would stop him. The main antagonist is not frightening and does not cause a sense of hopelessness. On the contrary – we are watching with such light interest – how will another bad Terminator win this time? No worries. Just evaluating. We're overfed, yes. We ourselves and the films that feed us have become fat and lost emotional heat.
The icon is called Terminator 2. Doomsday still shines all its low-power sequels from somewhere above, making it clear that none of them came even a third closer to the great and in many ways brilliant creation of James Cameron.
The only bright spot of the new film is of course a chic Terminator comeback performed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. He alone attracts eyes in all his forms and manifestations.
Live heroes lose to him in almost all articles. Kyle Reese performed by Jai Courtney does not develop at all and just walks from place to place. Emilia Clarke is good and convincing (and even looks like her character in general), but she does not go through the path of development, remaining unseen throughout her not very handy large screen time. John Connor is a strange and indistinct type, from whom he smells like B films and TV series (Jason Clark) and who, even in his other role, does not conquer the heights of acting and certainly does not inspire awe and respect.
As a result, we do not have a smart villain, there is no savior hero and there is only one on whose steel skeleton and indisputable authority the whole hromada of this long-term series is kept - and in "Terminator". Genesis" - it's definitely good. “Old, but useful” is about the T-800 and about Schwarzenegger himself, who again shows everyone his best aspects of acting talent – invincibility, impressiveness, a terrible attempt to smile and stunning self-irony, for which only this hero wants to applaud several times during the film.
We remember that when making movies about robots, people first of all talk and think about people, talk about people, try to evaluate people. But here - to love, to empathize, to sympathize and to keep his fists - I want only for him. Only the T-800 is more capable of self-sacrifice, affection, perseverance and loyalty than any other living hero (although it was programmed by John Connor himself in one of the future scenarios). But it wasn't beaten either. Only he is able to reach the end, rise from the ashes and make the viewer smile with a calm smile. He alone is joy and hope.
We just have another Terminator. Fifth one. Not the best, of course. But not the worst. Just another one.
I was very pleased with the product placement. Guns and guns dot kom (or something like that), Nike and others.

I, as a person absolutely far from the universe of the Terminator, who saw only the first two cult parts in a distant childhood, loved.
Well, everything was on top, no matter what. At least look from the point of view of the quality of reference to the past, even from the point of view of the implementation of the modern film. Before viewing, I refreshed my memory of the first part and literally squeaked when IMAX 3D saw painfully familiar footage! It was amazing to see all this turmoil in the first half of the film. That is indeed, they paid tribute to both the year 84 and the very old Schwarzenegger, who kept himself very well.
Yes, you can dig into the details, graphics, excessive overdoing of events in the storyline and snort, saying “it was better before.” Yeah, Kyle Reese came out like that. Yes, with the realism (if it is appropriate at all the word in Skype) reincarnation of John Conor problems came. Yes, another film suffering from a closed loop of events (I passed the message to myself to pass it on to myself).
But if we embrace the film globally, then we will see a worthy and almost harmonious continuation of the second part. With the advent of all the good old Terminator models and new technologies in addition.
Watch clearly and perhaps even more than once, a little later. All spitting: you are too picky or overly conservative.
