The great Russian mathematician Sophia Kovalevskaya lived a short but bright life. She was only 40 years old (born in 1850, died in 1891), but during this time there were many dramatic events.
Everything was against her professional choice and desire to go on a scientific path. Mathematics is still considered a “male science”, which requires a special mindset that is not characteristic of a woman. But if today the teacher of mathematics in school can be an object of admiration and respect, then a century and a half ago, society imposed an unspoken taboo on the lessons of the weaker sex in mathematical science. And Sophia Kovalevskaya broke this blockade. For a scientific career, she had to solve not only complex mathematical problems, but also life problems. The female image of the great scientist in the film was recreated by young Elena Safonova.
