The actor is known to the general public as a performer of the roles of duplicitous Russians, Germans and other suspicious types - Europeans. Before joining the cinema, Freeman played in the theater, taught dramatic art, then acted on British television. Freeman made his film debut in the gangster drama The Long Good Friday (1980). Several notable roles followed, however, which did not bring him much popularity in Hollywood, although he played the role of the French archaeologist René Belloc, the insidious rival of Dr. Jones, in The Seekers of the Lost Ark. Nevertheless, the actor continues to star in many film and television projects both at home and in the United States.
