She was born on November 28, 1934.
Journalist, film critic, who began her creative career as a film actress. She starred in the films “Soldier Ivan Brovkin”, “Ivan Brovkin on virgin land”, “Blackmorochka” and others.
Daia Smirnova made her film debut in the first year, brilliantly playing a modest and stupid Lyubash in a dilogy about Ivan Brovkin. The success of the film was shared by the leading actors, and Smirnova began to be invited from the film to the film by other directors.
Among the films with her participation: “Zarechen grooms”, “Green fire”, “Katya-Katyusha”, “Kyivlanka”, “End of the world”, “Fires”, “Blackmoron”, “Whistling everyone up!”
However, disillusioned with the quality of films and profession in general, Daia Smirnova moved to the script faculty of VGIK to Evgeny Gabrilovich, leaving one of the best acting teachers - Sergey Gerasimov. “The actor’s fate seemed hopeless to me, there was so much bad material that I decided to quit everything,” recalls Daia Evgenyevna today. But fate did not smile here either.
A few years later, six scriptwriter students were expelled from the institute, including Smirnov. There was a grandiose, "political" scandal, which today people do not like to remember. All they say is that talented people are being repressed. Daia Smirnova graduated from VGIK in absentia, with Alexei Kapler, but left the profession. She got married, gave birth, did not ask for anything and disappeared from view for several years.
I went back to the movies during the perestroika. Immersed in film journalism, collaborated with the publications “Art of Cinema”, “Screen”, “Culture”, “Screen and Stage”, worked on television.
