Nikolai Fedorovich Yakovchenko was born on May 3, 1900 in Ukraine, in Chernihiv province, in the city of Priluki. He studied at the theater school in Moscow. Since 1918, the actor began to perform in dramatic collectives of his relatives Priluk. In 1920-26 he worked in Russian and Ukrainian theaters in Cherkasy, Simferopol, Lubny, Chernigov, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, and in 1928 he joined the troupe of the Ivan Franko Kyiv Academic Theatre. Among other film roles Nikolai Yakovchenko - Voight ("Stolen happiness"), Kondrat Perepelitsa ("Maxim Perepelitsa"), Matveich ("Trubachev's squad fights"), Opetskovsky ("Shelmenko-denschik"), commandant ("Stepsel marries Tarapunka"), Karpo Ivanovich ("Blackmorochka"), Lopata ("Queen of the gas station"), Father ("For two hares"), Patsyuk ("Evenings at the farm near Dikriyevsky") (Navriye). Although Nikolai Yakovchenko played mostly comedic roles, he dreamed of playing Othello and even read monologues to his friends. In the movie, the actor still managed to perform a dramatic role in the film “Grandfather of the left extreme”, but this was his last film. To the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great comedy actor in Kiev, a monument to Nikolai Yakovchenko was erected - the old artist sits on a bench, and his beloved dog is located at his feet.
