Martsevich Eduard Evgenievich is a theater and film actor, was born on December 29, 1936 in Tbilisi.
Edward grew up in an acting family. His father, Martsevich Evgeny Mikhailovich, and his mother, Krylova Nina Alekseevna, worked at the Baku Drama Theatre.
As in many acting families, whose children grew up “on stage” next to their parents, little Edward’s childhood also passed behind the scenes. The boy mesmerized at the light of theatrical spotlights, watching the actors play, absorbing the mysterious atmosphere of the theater, dreaming of the time when one day he himself will be able to play some brave and valiant knight on this stage.
The divorce of his parents in 1940 deeply wounded Edward. The young man, trying not to think about reality, dreamed, raved about the acting future. Having a very good baggage of acting training, confident of his own success, Eduard Matskevich went to Moscow and applied to several theater universities at once. In GITIS, he did not pass the exams, but in the Moscow Art Theater School he was invited immediately to the third year, but Eduard chose the Shchepkin School. There, together with Martsevich, Stanislav Lyubshin and Nelly Kornienko, who became popular actors in the future, studied. Eduard Martsevich was enrolled in the course of the famous director, teacher and actor Konstantin Alexandrovich Zubov.
As a student, Marcevich began acting in films. His film debut was a role in dramatic
Fathers and Children based on Turgenev's novel.
The work in this picture was so successful that the young, promising actor was noticed by Sergey Bondarchuk himself and invited him to the role of Drubetsky in the film adaptation of Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
After graduating from the Shchepkin School in 1959, Eduard Martsevich became an actor of the Mayakovsky Theatre. After a bright debut in the role of Hamlet, work followed in the plays “How are you, boy?”, “Wires of the White Nights”, “Irkutsk History” and many others.
The most famous film roles that brought the actor success and popularity were played by him between 1974 and 1985. Martsevich was remembered for his talented play in the drama “I am looking for my destiny”, where he played the role of the priest Alexander, the historical film “Young Russia”, etc.
Eduard Martsevich starred in more than 60 films. In 1987, the actor was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR. /
