James Caan was born on March 26, 1940 in the Bronx, New York, USA. He grew up in Queens and decided to become an actor while still in college. At the age of 16, James Kaan attended Michigan State University, studying economics and playing football. He then went to Hofstra University, where he studied law, and then auditioned and was admitted to Stanford Meisner's Neighborhood Playhouse in 1960. Shortly after his theatrical debut, Kaan played on Broadway, but after four performances he was forced to leave the law with the leading actress. He found himself on television, making his debut in 1963. After episodic roles ("Naked")
City" and "Route 66") the actor began to appear in series in various series - "Caravan", "Ben Casey", "The Untouchables", "Alfred Hitchcock Presents".
In 1965, Kaan starred in Howard Hawks' Red Line 7000, and two years later he starred in the Eldorado Western, alongside John Wayne and Robert Mitchum. This was followed by Robert Altman and Francis Ford Coppola.
The actor owes his fame to the television film "Brian's Song" (1970) - for playing the title role of Brian Piccolo he was nominated for an Emmy - and the Coppola crime saga "The Godfather" (1972). The role of Sonny Corleone was marked by an Oscar nomination. In 1974, he won a Golden Globe for The Player, starred in Funny Girl with Barbra Streisand and in Norman Jewison's futuristic film Rollerball. However, the work of James Caan that followed the creative rise did not live up to expectations, and the actor’s career began to decline, besides, he failed to agree with Coppola on the terms of filming in the Apocalypse of Our Days, refused roles in several films that turned out to be hits – in particular, Someone Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Superman, Kramer vs. Kramer. But in the second half of the 1980s, Kaan again found himself on the crest of success - he starred in the military drama of F. F. Coppola "Garden of Stones" (1987), hits were the fantastic television series "Alien Nation" (1988) and "Misery" (1990) by Rob Rainer. Among other films with the actor can be noted action movie James Cameron "The eraser", detective "Secrets P.S.", romantic comedies Andrew Bergman "Honeymoon in Las Vegas" and Kelly Makin "Blue-Eyed Mickey".
