James Howard Woods was born on April 18, 1947 in Vernal, Utah. After graduating from school in 1965, he entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in political science, but in 1969 he dropped out and moved to New York, deciding to exchange the life of a political scientist for an acting career.
