Latif Abidovich Faiziev was born in Tashkent Uzbekistan director screenwriter actor. People's Artist of the Uzbek SSR (1979). Laureate of the State Prize of the Uzbek SSR (1982). Graduated from the directorial faculty of VGIK (1951 workshop of I. Savchenko).
He starred in the films “Third Strike” “Taras Shevchenko”. He shot doc. films and plots for republican and all-Union film magazines.
The childhood of the little Latifa was held in the theater of the young audience and in the film studio. In the theater, he not only watched how artists took on a variety of appearances played on stage, but also performed small roles. This is how the People’s Artist of Uzbekistan, a mature venerable director, later recalled about his childhood: In 1941-1945, when I was 12 years old, I was always among the artists. I studied in a studio that opened in those years. Working on the roles brought me great joy.”
A little later Latif enters the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, where he studies in the studio of I. Savchenko at the director's department. Together with his teacher, he works on the films “Third Strike” and “Taras Shevchenko” as an assistant director.
L. Faiziev entered the art world early. At the age of twenty, he learned the joy of creativity and managed to experience difficulties associated with the profession of film director. L. Faiziev shot seventeen feature films and several documentaries and ballet films. His name was often followed by the word “first.” In our national cinematography, L. Faiziev for the first time used a new film technique - i.e. a wide screen was also one of the first to create a color film "The Crash of the Emirate" in 1964 together with V. Basov "Second Spring" in 1959 in Uzbek cinema the first film-ballet "Temir Malik" in 1970. “Revived miniatures” 1971 for the first time in Uzbek cinema together with Indian filmmakers shot the film “Ali Baba and Forty Thieves” 1979, as well as the works of Hamza Aibek Mirzo Tursunzoda A. Kakhhar M. Shaykhzoda were filmed Latif by Obidovich Faiziev Here is how the playwright M. Shaykhzoda recalled about him: “It is necessary to note the great merit of L. Faizieva in the creation of the film “Star of Ulugbek”. He worked with great love, worked selflessly without sparing himself. He set the tone for the entire crew with his love of work with a serious attitude of accuracy and exactingness, and he coped perfectly with the task set for himself.
In 1953, L. Faiziev removes the feature film "Bai and Batrak". It was a famous performance of the Hamza Theatre. And the young director had a difficult task to preserve the spirit of the play and at the same time try to transfer the events of the play to nature. The film was shot together with the director A. O. Ginzburg. Thanks to Faiziev, many generations of viewers saw the art of remarkable actors of the Hamza Theatre such as Maria Kuznetsova S. Ishonturayev O. Zhalilov Sadriev S. Burkhanov A. Norboev M. Yakubova L. Nazrullayev and others. The director learned a lot from the film. The next film that L. Faiziev is "Sacred Blood" based on the novel by Oybek. I must say that the director did not go the way of illustrating the novel, but how a real cinematographer gave the novel a second life by creating a new screen work. L. Faiziev understands how important a strong dramaturgical material is the foundation of the future film and therefore the director always attaches great importance to the primary basis - the script of the film. Further, L. Faiziev shoots the films "On Lenin's Way" "The Little Bird". The director in his paintings works with great masters and aspiring actors. L. Faiziev attaches great importance to working with actors for a long time rehearsing with them looking for the essence of the image. He also understands how important it is for negative characters to be strong, bright personalities. How interesting is the negative character so increases the role and power of the positive hero.
The director begins the film “Star of Ulugbek”. Here L. Faiziev managed to develop the strongest aspects of M. Shaykhzoda's play Mirzo Ulugbek. The director together with the playwright creates new images and includes new episodes. The film "Star of Ulugbek" is a great event not only in the work of L. Faiziev but also in Uzbek cinema. In the theater named after Hamza played and quite successfully the play "Mirzo Ulugbek". But L. Faiziev managed to create a completely different film work thanks to the huge work with M. Shaykhzoda, not only the compositional structure of the drama changed, but some images were enriched with new colors. The main culmination of the film is the duel of the struggle of thoughts clash of strong-willed intelligent people Ulugbek – Sh. Burkhanov and Khoja Ahror – Alim Khodjaev. Burkhanov is an extremely emotional actor with a high performing skill with a delicate taste and extensive experience on stage and on the screen.
Director L. Faiziev managed to use these opportunities of the artist in the role of Ulugbek. By this time, L. Faiziev has developed as an experienced director who accurately sees future shots of the film while working on the script. While working on the script of the film “Star Ulugbek” he set the author M. Sheikhzada exact tasks: the plot should develop actively the main images should come to the fore by reducing the number of characters dialogues need to be compressed but the struggle of worldviews necessarily persists. Events develop widely free action takes place in parallel in Samarkand and around it. The film clearly shows the rich direction of the camera work of A. Panin and the work of artists N. Rakhimboev and E. Kalantarov. Here is what C. Aitmatov wrote about the film: “With his tape L. Faiziev said a new word in the national-historical genre.”
L. Faiziev is a director who is always in creative search. In the film "Sons of the Fatherland" L. Faiziev uses chronicle and documentary footage. This was reflected in the experience of the director who accumulated L. Faiziev while working on documentary films: "Gafur Ghulyam" "Theatre of Hamza 35 years" "Mirzachul" "Dawn over the Ganges" "Three palm trees" "Decameron" and others. L. Faiziev actively works in the 70s and 80s at Uzbekfilm Tajikfilm, creating ballet films documentaries and feature films like Natashakhonim about actress Maria Kuznetsova Ali Baba and Forty Thieves (Uzbekfilm and Eaglesfilm India) and Serve the Fatherland (Uzbekfilm 1980) Legenda about love and other fate. L. Faiziev invites actors from different republics of Moscow and India. He managed to create a creative ensemble that perfectly coped with the most difficult tasks. L. Faiziev scrupulously worked with the screenwriters, artist operator and composer. The film starred such famous Indian actors as Hemma Malina Zainab Omon Dharmendra and the magnificent actor Roland Bykov Sofiko Shaureli Frunzik Mkrtchyan and others.
A beautifully filmed episode of the song "Khatuba" with Zainab Omon when forty robbers force Photima - Z. Omon to sing and dance. In general, the robbers of the cave and its treasures gradually snatch Photima. She wants to run away, but the sharp blades make her sing. Fotima’s beautiful voice and dance fascinate the robbers and they sing along with her. We see in the frame the hands of robbers the song continues to sound then these hands scatter gold coins under the feet of the girl. Abu Hassan enters the cave and the “performance” stops there. The film is based on the famous fairy tale of the same name but L. Faiziev introduced new characters who raised problems that are not in the fairy tale. The film celebrates the greatness of man. The film was a huge success both in India and here. Indian film critic B. Sathe wrote that the film “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” in Bombay and other cities of India was shown continuously for six months in a row and was viewed by millions of viewers. In our box office, the film took one of the first places.
L. Faiziev was a creative person he never remained idle. For several years, he worked as the chief director of the Hamza Theatre and staged performances, he performed wonderfully on television about cinema. And of course, I worked making movies. He was a real workaholic obsessed with the great art of cinema and devoted to it. Unfortunately, he died early in the period of creative maturity when there were many plans and ideas that were not destined to be realized. But the films created by L. Faizievm live and continue to please many viewers.
