Alexander Anatolyevich Shirvindt was born on July 19, 1934 in Moscow. His father was a violinist and his mother was an editor of the Moscow Philharmonic. After school, the boy studied at the B. Shchukin Theater School in the class of V. Lviv. The actor’s diploma work was the productions “Night of Errors” and “Labor Bread” based on the works of A. Ostrovsky. In 1956, Alexander graduated with honors, and he was admitted to the Theatre of Lenin Komsomol, where the leaders were S. Birman and S. Giatsintova.

In 1956, Alexander graduated with honors, and he was admitted to the Theatre of Lenin Komsomol, where the leaders were S. Birman and S. Giatsintova. Theatrical debut of the actor took place in the production of “The First Horse” based on the play by Vishnevsky, where he played the role of an officer.
Success Shirvindt brought the roles played in the performances of A. Efros: “Moliere”, “The Seagull”, “Cinema is shot”, “104 pages about love”. In total, he participated in 30 different productions.
Since 1968, Alexander Shirvindt worked for Malaya Bronnaya at the Moscow Drama Theatre. Since 1970 he played on the stage of the Moscow Theater of Satire, and in 2000 he was appointed artistic director of the same theater.
He began directing almost from the first days of work in the Theater of Satire, in 1970 he staged together with M. Zakharov the play “Awake and Sing!”. He has often written or co-authored the script.
On the screen, the debut was the role of Ukhov in the film “She loves you”, released in 1956. Then followed the work on the tapes “Major Whirlwind”, “Come tomorrow”,
Heavenly swallows" "Dog in Boots,"
Station for two and many others.
As a director, Alexander worked on the films “Little Comedies of the Big House” and
"Wake up and sing." .
In 1994, a book was published, which Shirvindt wrote together with art critic B. Poyurovsky. It's called "The Past Without Doom."
Alexander has many awards, including: Order of Friendship of Peoples, Theatre Spring Award, Golden Ostap Award, Chekhov Medal and others.
