Not the last role was played by the fact that the mother of the future actor - a rural teacher - tried to instill in her sons love for the works of Pushkin, Nekrasov, Tolstoy, Ostrovsky, Chekhov, Gorky.
At the age of 15, Boris Babochkin was already an employee of the political department of the 4th Army of the Eastern Front. It was then that the future artist had the opportunity to see in action the "soldier of the revolution" and, albeit unconsciously, remember their manner of behavior, characteristic expressions and the very atmosphere of what happened.
In 1920, having enlisted a letter of recommendation to Nimerovich-Danchenko, Babochkin went to Moscow. However, he showed this letter to the addressee only 20 years later, and while he decided to break through himself, without "blat". In Moscow, Babochkin became a student of the Young Masters studio, which was led by I. Pevtsov. And his debut on the stage took place in the summer of 1921, when all the students of Pevtsov went to Ivanovo-Voznesensk to play on the local stage. In the first years of his creative life, Babochkin performed on the stage of Moscow, Kostroma, Voronezh, Mogilev, Samarkand, and played about two hundred different roles in those years.
In 1927, Babochkin became an actor of the Leningrad Satire Theatre. Then there was the Drama Theater of the People’s House (today it is the Pushkin Drama Theater). Here he manages to create the image of Sysoyev ("First Horse"), which became the harbinger of his Chapai. In the same years, he begins to act in films, his first notable role was the commander Karavaev in the film.

In 1937, a new stage of activity of Babochkin began - he became the director of the Bolshoi Drama Theater named after Gorky, and later his artistic director. In 1940, Babochkin went to the troupe of the Evg. Vakhtangov Theatre, then there were the Film Actor Theatre, the State Academic Maly Theatre, the Pushkin Moscow Theatre, the Ivan Vazov Bulgarian People's Theatre. At the same time, he was involved in films.
