Valentina Kovel was born on January 23, 1923 in Petrograd. Her training at the Theatre Institute (1941-1945) is not calm. In this difficult time for all, only a modicum of joy gave a short time to forget about the war. Valentine had to dig trenches in Leningrad, and work in the hospital, where she tied up and fed the wounded.
In 1946, Valentina Kovel joined the troupe of the Leningrad Drama Theater named after Pushkin. Her characters had a strong character. In addition, they were not alien to grotesque and eccentric. As a result, Valentina managed to show juicy images of heroines, who, despite the external discrepancy, attracted cheerful disposition and vitality.
Nevertheless, the real popularity of Kovel felt much later, when in 1966 she began to play on the stage of the Bolshoi Drama Theater named after M. Gorky. The theater was headed by Georgy Tovstonogov, who called Valentina his favorite actress. It was here that she was able to show herself to the audience in all its glory, playing, for example, matchmaker Kabato (the play “Hanuma”) and Vyazopurihu (the play “History of a Horse”).
Valentina Covel’s movie roles are not so much. As a rule, they were all episodic. However, any role she could make vivid and memorable. It is worth remembering her participation in the series.
"Born by the Revolution" in the films "Three times about love" and
"Salute, Maria!" And although the cinema could not fully see the extraordinary talent of Kovel, her characters were “filled” with natural temperament and artistry.
The actress earned the love of the St. Petersburg beau monde due to her open character, eccentricity and vitality. She loved noisy companies, where she was the center of attention, and until the end of his days glowed optimism. Valentina Covel died in 1997 at the age of 74.
