But the artist is not going to change his handwriting: he suffered his fine technique in a long search. Having come to the cartoon, I wanted it to be funny and beautiful. But soon I realized that beautiful is not funny. It is not perfect lines that entertain, but defective forms. If you want the viewer to smile, the image must be primitive. Hence – and recognizable Maximov’s “amoebas”: on the face terrible, kind inside.
