Yuri Stepanovich Chulyukin was born on November 9, 1929 in Moscow. In 1956 he graduated from the directorial faculty of VGIK, where he studied in the workshop of G.Alexandrov and M.Chiaureli. His thesis was the painting “Smoke in the forest” (according to A. Gaidar). For some time the director worked on television, where he shot about thirty TV essays. In 1958, he came to the Mosfilm film studio, where he made his debut in a feature film. And already the first comedy of Yuri Chulyukin - the film "Unable" (1959), in which the main roles were played by Nadezhda Rumyantsev, Yuri Belov and Alexei Kozhevnikov - has gained huge popularity among the audience. His next film, the comedy “Girls” (1961), was even more successful. The film is considered the best directorial work of Chulyukin, and the role of Tony Kislitsina became one of the memorable ones for Nadezhda Rumyantseva. In the future, the director tried himself in a variety of genres: he shot sports and musical comedies - "The Royal Regatta" (1966) and "I do not want to be an adult" (1982), staged a picture about the circus "The King of the Arena" (1969), - they did not become creative successes. A special place in the work of Chulyukin are military-patriotic films - "R.V.S." (he acted as a screenwriter and artistic director), "Junga from the schooner "Columb" (1963), "On the way to Berlin" (1969), "And on the Pacific" (1973). A high official assessment was received by the film dedicated to the feat of General D. Karbyshev - "The Homeland of Soldiers" (1975), awarded in 1976 with the Silver Medal named after A. Dovzhenko. The events of the civil war in the Far East are devoted to the film "Let's Talk, Brother!" (1979). Yuri Chulyukin has repeatedly acted as a screenwriter, songwriter and even an actor, since 1982 he taught at VGIK. His last film was Mikka of Tampere Asks for Advice (1986). Yuri Chulyukin died on March 7, 1987 in Maputo (Mozambique), where he was engaged in teaching work.
