This is the second movie I’ve been hiding from as a child. The first was "The Thing." It was a very frightening machine in a human body that never stops. Even the rubber special effects didn't cut your eyes much. Then it was all new, unexpected and brutal. It’s pretty tough compared to the second part. I didn't even listen to what Kyle Reese was saying. I didn't even remember him then. All attention was focused on this cyborg, which in the end was a brilliant mechanism.
But now the roughness of that plot is striking. Disgusting special effects, although then I saw this makeup, imitating the decomposition of living tissues at the terminator. And then I realized what the smell said that owner of the cheap hotel.
In subsequent screenings, it was more interesting to listen to Kyle Reese with his very thoughtful story. There were already logical inconsistencies. Like, why kill Sarah's girlfriend and her boyfriend? Before that, he asked for his first and last name. He didn't watch the news to understand the victims' awareness. Also, Kyle and Sarah's moment of love is just by the ears. They were chased by a car, and they hugged... they had to run to the Canadian border. Terminator intelligence leaves much to be desired. Only by chance did the Terminator discover the pair. And the robot himself already 5 times to the hotel and the site could kill Sarah Connor, but godlessly dulled for the sake of pumping suspense. But Kyle Reese made an impression. Although sometimes it was also not always believed that he was a downtrodden soldier with fear of not waking up tomorrow. Or he was so inspired by John's victory against the machines. Only McGee dared to show the world of that machine future, although not too masterfully.
But the movie is worth watching. For his years, even today looks cheerful episodes, if you close your eyes to puppet special effects. In those years, a lot was hidden by square TVs. And now the shortcomings can no longer be hidden. I would like a smart restart, not another Genesis.
Although it is possible to make a reservation that only some moments have passed the test of time. Special effects are godlessly outdated, but the idea is relevant. As well as a dark soundtrack.
In 1984, a new picture appeared on the screens of cinemas under the strange name “Terminator”. Its director was a little known then James Cameron, who put before that only the continuation of the thrash horror “Piranha”.
What was then well known to everyone: the film became a classic of the sci-fi genre, had a cult continuation, punched Cameron the way to create two of the highest-grossing films in the history of cinema and made Arnold Schwarzenegger a star of the first magnitude.
What else can I say? You can see with the naked eye what impact this picture had on the further development of cinema - this is understandable. It makes no sense to search for hidden layers of directorial thought, as in any author's film - everything is extremely clear and clear (which does not mean that the film is superficial or that it lacks the imprint of the real author).
What else can I say? Maybe I should just confess my love for this movie.
It is much closer to me than its famous sequel. But, it should be noted immediately, this is purely my subjective opinion. In fact, both movies are beautiful - they're just different. If the first film genre is closest to a horror film, then the second is more logical to call the action movie. If the first film had a budget of about $ 6 million, the second it is more than $ 100 million. The latter fact has a direct impact on a certain intimacy of the first part and the epicity of the second. And the level of development of special effects for seven years has increased not by years.
The indisputable advantage of the first part for me is its cruelty, in which there is practically no place for any sentiments. It is in the first part contains a stunning scene that opens the film and contains, perhaps, the whole essence of the franchise – a crawler tank of robots, pressing under its weight human skulls. And I’m much more impressed not by the kind Arnie, who says “Hasta la vista, baby” and looks after the little boy, but by the cruel and ruthless Schwarzenegger with an emotionless red eye (heir to HAL 9000), saying “I’ll be back” before blowing up the entire police station in one of the coolest and most stylish scenes in the history of cinema.

In Los Angeles, as a result of two flashes of “ball lightning” announced two seemingly human. Both are looking for a certain Sarah Connor, but one of them is a Terminator who must kill the future mother of the future leader of the resistance to the machines that have taken over the world in the not so distant future.
And the second one has to save her.
The movie that made James Connor ... ooh! Cameron! star and began Schwarzenegger's career as a superstar. In hindsight, you realize that Cameron in this story, of course, the main demiurge. Especially in terms of the mythology he created. And the paradoxes of fatherhood, and the nuclear catastrophe provoked by internal logic, not by evil terrorists, the Soviets or some other relative person, and the mimicry of evil, and the soldiers that we still need - all this is masterfully woven into the film. Finally, the aesthetics of the industrial, anti-natural principle, or rather, just the opposite – the apocalypse – are reproduced with amazing persistence. No wonder both Terminators (3,4,5 films, rather, are not) end in a very classic industrial entourage. However, just doomsday contrasts liquid monster almost benevolent retro. Cameron is slightly veiled, but almost howling - back to a past that's not so scary. And if you consider his interest in ecology, he is almost Jean-Jacques Rousseau with his Back to Nature. As a last resort, a man. Despite the genre, the then young filmmaker clearly professes humanism combined with pacifism. After all, a man fights with a machine for the sake of his future.
But that's if you dig deep. But there are also purely movie breakers. First of all, a good script is not a single scene. Although this is an action, but respite in action does not leave the viewer perplexed - the director graciously and foolishly explains how two guys fell into the past, why Kyle became the chosen one for salvation and a simple and long-standing story about a girl who can not hold a credit card in her hands, and then saves humanity. The last one is going to be Sarah Connor. By the way, the continuations followed precisely thanks to the details that created the very mythology of the Terminator.
But still the main thing is the fantastic pace of a fantastic action movie, built according to the laws of a thriller. You can see what each dollar is spent on, and the action does not stop for a second. Cameron like no one feels the rhythm - there is no run, sagging and, at first glance, there are no logical inconsistencies. And the thriller is not created by a supercharged suspense, and not at all by a time factor (the length of the frame), but by a factor of place and object - whether it is a police station, a motel, a car, a motorcycle, hydraulic automation or a parking lot. And it seems that the development is linear - she runs, and he is always behind (it is almost impossible for him to foresee and predict, but there is a purposefulness unprecedented for people), and the fear of sacrifice is transmitted to the viewer ... Fear is not of the unknown, but rather of the fame of death. Almost inevitable. So even the finale does not give hope or comfort. You bet! An hour and a half of time was not, so the happy ending in any case is difficult to feel.
Finally, Arnie's stone face with his I'll be back was nowhere more sinister.
The Terminator marked the beginning of James Cameron’s career. This is his third film and deserves the most attention.
The low-budget film brought success not only to the director, but also to several aspiring actors, mainly Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzeneger’s body is truly the perfect container for a steel skeleton. I must say that the actor adequately coped with the role of a cyborg. Michael Bien also tried, who 2 years after the "Terminator" once again accompanies the warlike lady in Cameron's film (remember a similar storyline in "Aliens").
From the height of the “flight” of modern technologies, it is quite interesting to observe the puppet and animation special effects of the “Terminator”. The first was used by the director to visualize the injured face of a cyborg. The animation solved the problem of movement of the steel frame of the deadly machine. All this is quite natural, because the film was shot in the distant 84th, when computer three-dimensional modeling in video editing was not yet used.
"Terminator" is one of those films, the musical theme of which plays an important role in the perception of the film. Brad Fidel's melody is doing a great job.
The absurdity of the main idea of this film is obvious. The concept of artificial intelligence is misunderstood. However, the very essence is quite fair – humanity can destroy itself, because there are no limits in the knowledge of nature and the realization of our ambitions.
This is only the second film by James Cameron, in which you can already feel the hand of the future master in separate scenes. At the same time, the overall impression of this work personally remained low. Maybe the reason for the sequel, which I looked ahead to the original, and which attracted not only a dynamic plot and well-made action scenes, but also philosophical delights, and Arnold Schwarzenegger managed to make his Terminator hero attractive to the viewer, so that in the final not only the hero of Edward Furlong, but also some of the audience tears, watching as the Terminator slowly plunges into molten metal. But comparing the original with the first part, it is impossible not to express bewilderment - and what is so special here. To begin with, we can say that, excluding individual scenes, the film is shot absolutely in an anonymous style and its visual range does not stand out from other action films and thrillers of the 1980s. I saw The Terminator many years ago, and how much time has passed since then, I never wanted to reconsider, neither in general nor any particulars, I do not feel any emotions about the original and I think it is more of a student work, only slightly better than Cameron’s debut Piranha 2: Spawning. But then James Cameron really surprised the audience with the horror-fighter Aliens. Believe me, at one time I did not regret that I did not go to the predictable elections, and once again decided to watch the classic sequel to Alien. I think that it does not need to be introduced and the fiction “The Abyss”, which was not obscured in the audience’s memory and a very successful adaptation of Michael Crichton’s novel “Sphere”. A very successful remake of the French comedy “True Lies”, where comedic situations are especially funny given the powerful appearance of the hero of Schwarzenegger, completely helpless in his personal life. And action is a classic for centuries. So, all these films have never claimed the status of masterpieces of world cinema, but for some reason it is the Terminator that is recognized by them. I don’t understand that, just as it’s not clear what the same critics see in the comedy action movie 48 Hours. Probably, this once again testifies to the fact that assessments are subjective, and people are more likely to single out those films that played a role in their lives.
Perhaps the most successful faces Lance Henriksen and Linda Hamilton, accurately conveying the characters of their heroes. Michael Bean doesn’t play much better than Schwarzenegger, who does his job on the machine. And now, watching the original, it may even seem funny designed to scare the scene of the Terminator's appearance in the past. Very accurately, really talented she was parodied in the 5th part, so you are waiting for the appearance of the old Terminator. “I need your clothes. You won't need it.
By the way, Albert Pyun’s “Cyborg” seems to me a much more fascinating film, especially considering that Pyun did not have such a budget. But that film successfully combines dramatic scenes with a post-apocalyptic entourage, and the crucifixion of Jean-Claude Van Damme, like an allusion to Calvary, is remembered more than the entire “Terminator” combined.
No doubt, "Terminator" is not a hoax and quite decently done. But quality cinematography is not the main thing. Even an entertaining film should touch the viewer, if not with dramatic elements, so at least with action or fantasy. There's none of this. Everything is similar to many other fighters of those years, not so much in the plot (it is original in its own way, I do not dispute), as in execution. To me, Cameron's second film seems as overrated as Stallone's "Cobra," vainly trying to be "Dirty Harry" of the 80s. No matter how slandered some about another Kosmatos action movie, Rambo, and he is much cooler. And the rare dramatic elements of Cameron’s script are worth the whole of Cobra combined, which allegedly analyzes the phenomenon of violence in the city.
Perhaps the best scene in Terminator is the shooting of a police station, although if you’ve seen Carpenter’s Assault on a Police Station, it won’t surprise you. Personally, I really lacked some style, the truth of the characters, so that I, as a viewer, really got into the story and believed that Sarah Connor must be saved or the world would die. And, of course, a good actor Schwarzenegger, the ironic attitude on the part of intellectuals, as to a mountain of muscles without brains, owes it to the Terminator, because he too literally understood his task to play a machine. So don’t be surprised that for many boys, the Terminator is the one from the sequel, not the tin can from the original. I don't even remember how he was defeated. But the finale in the action film, in theory, should be especially memorable.
This film is made for mere pennies - six million dollars, it's nice to realize that the film perfectly shows the mastered money - not a cent wasted. The film uses practical special effects, improvised materials and an excellent desire to make a first-class science fiction film. A beautiful title theme was written, where iron strokes were made with a frying pan - that's what a great desire to shoot "The Terminator" means.
In this picture, the essence of the machine is perfectly shown, which follows the task set before it by an unstoppable step. Arnold Schwarzenegger embodied the image of the killer machine: a cold look, lack of facial expressions, stingy and dosed speech, rational and actions.
Michael Bean perfectly showed a character who lived his whole life in a state of war, and got from a bleak future to our bright past. He was struck by surprise, pain, rage at what he had never had - blood, warmth, food, beloved woman. He fell in love with Sarah Connor and was transported for her through space and time in order to save his beloved from the Terminator.
Linda Hamilton got the beautiful role of a girl who barely made ends meet, she works hard as a waitress, where she is surrounded by impolite clients, her personal life is not adjusted, the bills must be paid - a standard image of an ordinary, weak, girl. Throughout the film, we see the metamorphosis of this simple and gentle girl in the image of a man with a character who, in a moment of danger, is ready to overcome his fears and help his beloved person.
The plot of the picture is not shining with revelations, we have a standard pursuit - a predator wants to overtake the victim. Victim Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese overcome barriers, difficulties. It would seem to be a simple script concept, but it is all masterfully staged and magnificently shot.
In the end, I would like to say that after so many years, the film still looks hurried.
Back in 1984, I think the theme of a machine uprising, although it seemed possible, was not very plausible. Nowadays, when technology is increasingly permeating all layers of our lives, this topic is more relevant. It was an interesting topic for James Cameron. Rise of the machines? I think it's a pretty good version of the apocalypse.
The action in the film begins to happen quite quickly - we are shown a brief backstory, and then events begin to happen one by one. Towards the middle, this very action in the film slows down and events take a more dramatic turn. All this is happening in conjunction with mass shootings, which, in my opinion, were carried out at a good level. In the film, in my opinion, successfully combined drama and action.
The characters in the film liked and remembered. An interesting story in Kyle Reese (Michael Bean), Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) by the end of the film from an insecure girl becomes a woman able to fight the Terminator and who is preparing for the role of the “mother of the future”, and of course the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) turned out to be quite colorful, the actor is selected at the very point. This is perhaps the most popular image of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his film career. At least I think so. Despite the fact that his character is verbose, his every phrase is worth its weight in gold. For example, what is the crown “I’ll be back”? In one of the last episodes, where the action takes place at the factory, the Terminator is even frightening, he moves very intimidatingly.
In this movie, I especially liked the ending. Very epic:
“He says a storm is coming.”
- "I know."
Overall, a great action movie with a good story. Especially, the idea of the film is good. It was interesting to watch the game of time in this picture. I'm curious to see what happens next. Will humanity eventually be able to change its future in the past? Will a man overcome a car? The storm is indeed coming. After watching, there is a feeling that the Terminator did not lie, and one day he will return again.

Kyle Reese: Listen and try to understand! Terminator in town. You can't negotiate with him, you can't explain anything to him. He feels no pity, no compassion, no fear. There's no way to stop him. No way! Until you die.
I decided today to review the first successful film by James Cameron. I came to a conclusion unequivocal and irrevocable. Here it is worth making a slight digression and noting that until now I did not like the "Terminator" for its simple scale and primitive special effects. My brain was a problem, because I thought so. Now there is a real understanding that the film is not as simple as it seems at first glance. Of course, for children, it was, first of all, spectacular, and the image of the cyborg was central to the plot. But not today.
The main character is Sarah Connor. Not just herself. All her thoughts, worries and impressions. Linda Hamilton is stunningly transformed into two completely different characters in both films. How tender and frightened she was at the first appearance, and how militant and saw many things in the "Judgment Day". In the first part, Sarah Connor is a really defenseless woman who wants to hide from serious troubles. It is an ordinary man of flesh and blood who can be killed at any moment. Kyle Reese is also a separate topic for dialogue.
A soldier who knew nothing but war with machines. A fighter ready to die for his leader. A warrior who can go all the way. The more valuable and sweet the dialogue between two fugitives in a hotel room, during a kind of respite from the pursuit. The reaction at this moment is not far-fetched mind - "gygygygy, whole, with a woman did not sleep". My reaction is, “A man who has fought so many battles has the courage to confess his love.” One of the best love scenes I've ever seen. It took me 27 years to see the scene.
How did James Cameron and Gail Ann Heard organically weave a love line into the plot of a fantastic action movie! The second part touches on the already paradoxical family love. As wild as it may sound, but in part or even love helped the couple defeat the overly purposeful Terminator. The power of love was much stronger than the cold metal alloy under living fabric. So, on one side, Arnold Schwarzenegger got lucky when he revealed himself better in the second film. Just because he was John's father.
And if you bother, I wondered why the AI sent the Terminator with such a mountain of muscle. It's a relief on every corner of the body. Huge, clumsy, inflexible. Of course, in the plot it was a display of destructive poems rushing towards the person. In the real world, the operation would have failed. Lance Henriksen, who at one time was considered for the role, would be right here. In any case, "The Terminator" definitely proved to the world that when there is an acute desire to make a great movie, it works.
Sarah Connor: Can you stop him?

According to some reports, James Cameron invented a synopsis for “Terminator” in his sleep. But in fact, it does not matter, since his film turned out to be a real masterpiece of fiction, which all his followers are equal to. Few people would have thought that an inexpensive craft worth some 6.4 million dollars would produce such a stunning furor. But that is exactly what happened.
The film takes place in 1984. That’s when the Terminator premiered. Resistance fighter from the future, John Connor, sent his father Kyle Reese into the past to protect his mother. In addition to Reese himself, sent to protect the last hope of mankind, in 1984, the Terminator, a killer machine, is sent to kill all opponents in order to preserve world domination.
Cameron managed to shoot a tense and dynamic spectacle for a minimum of money. His tape looks almost like an exemplary action movie of the 80s, but when you see the Terminator walking down the street, the cold tries to penetrate between the shoulder blades. Of course, we can all predict the finale, but this does not make the action less interesting.
James Cameron’s Terminator is a great excuse to spend the evening in the company of a great entertaining film for all time. The Terminator may be somewhat outdated, but that only applies to its technical qualities. The atmosphere and spirit of the film are not subject to aging.
It is quite natural that the heyday of world fiction (both in cinema and literature) fell on the twentieth century. Either a nuclear bomb will be created, then they will fly into space, then they will land on the moon, or even a computer will be invented. And if you tell a person of past centuries about flying into space and to the moon will be relatively not so difficult, and you can explain about nuclear weapons, then explain the essence and features of computer technology will probably be most difficult.
Thus, it is absolutely natural that after (or even anticipating) these milestone events in the history of human civilization, world literature has been enriched, among others, by such names as George Orwell, Robert Heinlein, Arthur Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Stanislav Lem, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, Philip Dick, and world cinema has been enriched, among others, by such names as Stanley Kubrick, Andrei Tarkovsky, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Terry Gilliam, Ridley Scott and...
The main themes of the great fantastic odyssey of the twentieth century are vividly and memorably displayed in the first (as the author and full creator) James Cameron’s film: nuclear war occurred, obviously, because of the intractable political, economic and social cataclysms of the twentieth century (specifically, because of the arms race – the nightmarish generation of the Cold War); machines rose from the ashes of nuclear fire – one of the main symbols of the technical progress of human civilization of the twentieth century; the plot was started by time travel (the great theme of world fiction, which came to the cinematic level of Des, from the last century to the fatality of his life in 1968, thanks to the world’s death of the heroism, and the world’s horror of his life in the world’s life in the last century);
Sarah Connor will not have a happy family life. On the example of her image, Cameron impressively demonstrated how the fundamental universal historical and philosophical vortices burst into the personal, with such great difficulty and trembling diligence, arranged life of the so-called “little man”, this necessary element of civilization and the eternal character of world art. And the fact that this tiny man does not break under the colossal power of the collapsed elements, does not clog into a corner, pleading for getting rid of the nightmare that burst into his life, even by the collapse of the whole world known to him, albeit by his own death, but, one way or another, he places this infernal burden on his mortal shoulders and carries, drags, drags it from the last forces, and even after they inevitably end - gives this film a humanistic charge of grandiose power and incredible depth of touching, forever relegating it to the place of the greatest works of science / art, not only among the greatest of mankind.
... And this motif is already very much reminiscent of two hobbits wandering “beyond infinity” to Doom Mountain (the hydraulic press in the first Terminator and the vat with molten metal in the second) to produce the same process of annihilation – “terminated”. And although the genres of these great stories are different, but one century, their birth was the XX-th.

James Cameron's "Terminator" became a cult as soon as it was released in theaters. Shot for modest money, a fantastic thriller introduced the world to one of the most spectacular villains in the history of cinema in the guise of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The plot takes place in the 80s, where a soldier from the future Kyle Reese and a robot-terminator arrive. The first has the goal of protecting Sarah Connor, the second has the opposite task. What is unique about a simple waitress? However, she is destined to give birth to a leader of the resistance in the global war against machines, which will arise in a few decades.
Without much money, working on pure enthusiasm, Cameron managed to realize almost all his ideas, building a story in the style of an uncompromising thriller with blood, severed hands and feet, chases and real explosions. His film is alarming, no one can feel safe when the Terminator approaches. And it's really scary.
With all due respect to Michael Bien and Linda Hamilton, they remain in the shadow of the formidable Arnold Schwarzenegger following the trail. He leaves them almost no chance and if not for luck, how would this story end? Schwarzenegger, though verbose, but effective and deadly. It causes horror before the inexorable coming fate and no one can stop it.
"Terminator" is a classic of the genre, a tense fantastic action movie, one of the best of its kind. Although some of the film’s effects are outdated in modern times, its vibe, style and dynamism still arouse interest. And I have no reason to give the film even a little underrated.

Particular attention is paid to the acting of Linda Hamilton. Watching her character involuntarily begins to feel all the desperation of the situation in which she found herself and the real anxiety is reflected on the face of the actress quite qualitatively, although it may well be that Linda just played poorly and showed only her chaotic femaleness on the screen, which can be confused with real experiences.
Not pleased symmetrical lip Linda, judging by her photos from the present 2017, this defect she did not admit.
Arnold can only be said to play the Terminator for him, but that doesn’t mean Arnie played well. If you can only doubt Linda’s performance, then Arnie is increasingly deplorable, he was never a good actor, he is typical ' stupid ambal' at least he was in 1984. Ambal turned out to be an extrovert and possessed of good genetics - only these two factors can justify Arnold as an actor. In general, I mean that the role of the Terminator, that is, a robot without feelings, could be played by a normal such actor, and could also be stupid Arnie, which in the end he did.
It’s damn funny when someone can rate Arnold’s performance for a role in The Terminator, even though the whole skill of acting is determined by the presentation of emotions, that is, what happens on the screen is true or not. Without the right emotion, of course, will not appear. And then Arnie powerfully breaks into the film industry with the role of a dummy. In fact, he is an anti-actor, probably on stage he was even asked to show as little emotion as possible.
I enjoyed the special effects, Arnold’s rubber face transported me straight to the age of 84 and immediately became cozy from the fact that I see a film, albeit an action movie and fiction, but a worthy film! These are the times when people improvised with very few resources - that's when really talented guys could stand out, which, in a way, James Cameron did. Unfortunately, we are only talking about serving, as the script is clearly lame. Let’s not take into account that the film itself is an action movie, a film of any genre deserves a decent script. Judging by the general impression and the number of cut or not filmed scenes, you understand that the situation with the script is extremely deplorable.
The film is valuable only in terms of historical exhibit and the impetus for the development of quality, soulful action films along with fiction. Of course, it is worth watching only for the sake of diverse development.
We often hear that against the background of modern large-budget blockbusters, classic fantastic action films with their primitive special effects are already becoming irrelevant, and in ten years everyone will forget about them.
I don’t doubt that even if you take at least Jonathan Mostow’s Terminator 3 or McGee’s Terminator 4, then of course the visual component in them is much more impressive than in the original film of James Cameron in 1984. Not surprisingly, more than twenty years have passed since then.
But does this mean that the new paintings are better, or at least on the first level? Not at all. In fact, they are not good for her.
This once again confirms the indisputable fact that on some special effects, no film will last long afloat and will be forgotten about it. But the first Terminator is remembered even after thirty years, and will undoubtedly be remembered in the future, because at one time this film was considered a real milestone in the genre of sci-fi action film. A milestone that appears at best once in a decade. Just in the 70s, a similar pillar was “Star Wars”, for example.
What is it about the Terminator? I will not retell the story, everyone knows it already. Suffice it to say that for its time it (the plot) was very original, and, importantly, carefully worked out. Of course, a small budget made itself felt and sometimes special effects associated directly with the terminator itself looked implausible and funny.
But that's not the point at all. There is a plus in this tape that outweighs all the others and the pros and cons combined. This is a gloomy atmosphere of hopelessness and fear, and it is simply too painful, otherwise I cannot express myself, dynamics! Even reviewing the picture now, I get goose bumps from all these brilliantly staged chases and shootouts (especially in the police station).
That's how you shoot action movies. Masterpiece production. No words.

It happens like this: a director and / or a screenwriter with a worldwide reputation comes, offers a script and everything that relies on it. A lot of money is allocated for the project, a film is made, advertised, released for hire - and the film fails at the box office, sometimes not even having time to beat the budget. And it happens the opposite: an unknown director comes, sometimes self-taught, with his own script and so on. Like an ordinary plot, a new word in the world cinema will not say. They allocate a purely formal budget for such a project, which is creaky enough for the most necessary, and they review and try to edit the script for a long time. The film is released and becomes a cult, the audience falls on it in crowds, critics put high marks and recognize the film as a real revolution in the genre. That’s what happened to Cameron’s Terminator. Maybe not everyone saw it, but everyone heard it. In the future, machines take over, and their main enemy becomes John Connor, the leader of the surviving people. The machines send a robot into the distant past to destroy John’s mother before she gives birth to him. But people send for the robot their man, who must stop the robot and save the heroine, unaware of his mission. All this is familiar to everyone and repeatedly played both before and after the Terminator. However, not all, but most of the laurels went to him, although before him the legendary "Space Odyssey" and "Blade Runner" were filmed and safely forgotten even then "Colossus: Forbin Project", "Descendant Demon" and "World of the Wild West". In general, strong enough competition to crush the third-rate horror, which, no doubt, includes “Terminator”. However, the third-rate horror has one small advantage – it is much less intelligent than the above competitors, and therefore easier to perceive a wide range of viewers. Cameron did what his predecessors had not done: clothed a not entirely new topic in a new, yet most popular form among the masses. He doesn’t ask any philosophical (as in A Space Odyssey or Blade Runner), political (as in Colossus), or other abstruse questions—just tells the story of two people hiding from a killer robot. There is no need for a larger mass audience. The key to Cameron’s success was primitive. Of course, a small budget played a role - it is much easier to beat it at the box office. Plus the original appearance of the robot - until Cameron for some reason, no one thought of making the monster robot look like a human skeleton.
It should be noted, however, that the director also did not care much about the rest of the details - neither the actors, nor the cameraman, nor all the other members of the crew did not differ in anything special. So technically, the Terminator is just a mediocre horror of its time, not lost among its kind only because of an unusual monster - not a maniac, as was fashionable in those years, not an otherworldly monster or something else, but a humanoid robot. For the freshness of the idea, you can put 3 points, for the original robot - another point, but this ends the advantages of the film.
A film that probably knows every person who grew up in the 80-90s. This tape is recognized as a cult treasure of the United States, and this says something. I remember watching this film on an old cassette, with that famously nefarious translation, and enjoying what I thought was just mind-blowing special effects.
Yes, now, young people, having looked at these “very unrealistic” robots, at the dummy head, which in my opinion has nothing to do with Schwarzenegger’s head, at least laugh at all this. But back then, in a time when technology couldn't afford to make almost everything that came to mind, as it is now, there were pioneers who experimented and, despite all the difficulties, made great science fiction films. Among them was James Cameron. A director who will once again amaze the world cinema with his advanced films.
By the way, on the Internet, I read that the idea of “Terminator” came to the head of the director when he fell ill with a fever (it turns out, sometimes it is still useful to get sick), and in delirium he dreamed of a man with a red eye pursuing a girl. It’s funny to think that this event will produce a great film, a great story and a hero for a generation.
Of course, it is difficult for me to objectively judge this tape. I have a special nostalgic, sentimental attitude towards her. However, I cannot but say that, despite a large number of years passed from the time when I did not peel off the lamp TV screen from the opening credits to the very end of the film, the film did not let me go for a second while watching, and does not let go. Looking at this picture now, I again felt that the action that takes place on the screen, constantly keeps me in suspense. I don’t know what exactly is the reason for this – a really great story or a very good performance of actors (the wonderful Linda Hamilton), which in general is not quite typical for such films of those years – but I watched this tape, as they say, “sweeping”.
This is a very good fantastic thriller, which now, at the time of active technologization and robotization of everything that comes to hand, is not just possible, but perhaps even necessary to watch. In fact, behind the colorful canvas of chases, shots, explosions, cool robots and muscular Schwarzenegger lie very serious and important human issues.
There’s no one who hasn’t seen a Terminator movie. It is clear that the second part received greater recognition, which became a cult for all film lovers, but what it all began with is also not to be forgotten.
And the machines rose from the ashes of nuclear fire. And the war to destroy humanity began, and it went on for decades. But the last battle will not take place in the future. It will take place here in our time. Tonight...
These words are familiar to anyone who once had a VCR. A vile translation of Volodarsky, monophonic sound, the title theme playing on the opening credits. This is probably one of the most memorable moments of my childhood. Find out why this movie became a legend.
First, the directorial work of James Cameron. I have a positive attitude towards his projects, but he is unproductive. Spends about 10 years, hatching an idea, then pops up to loudly smell another masterpiece, and again to the bottom. But that's now. In 1984, he didn’t lack good ideas, and the world saw the Terminator. Excellent implementation of an interesting idea. Bravo James Cameron!
Visual of the movie. Of course, after more than thirty years, special effects do not seem so unrealistically cool, but they are still watchable. There are a couple of moments that cut the eye with their old age, but this does not spoil the impression. A special respect for pyrotechnics, who arranged real food for the eyes. This is what a quality fighter should look like. Well, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger's makeup looks amazing and realistic.
Actors. Well, here you can talk for a long time on the topic good / bad, but I think everyone agrees in one opinion - what was required of the actors, they gave. No more, no less. In the director’s version, there is a scene in which the hero of Michael Bean is still generous with emotions, and from a soulless piece of wood the character begins to turn into a normal person, with his inherent weaknesses. But this scene was cut out so as not to spoil the character. It's no use.
In general, there is nothing to say here. Watch it anyway! I'll take the ball off, because the sequel is still better.

Telling about the Terminator doesn’t make much sense. This film gave the world one of the most iconic and recognizable characters - an unstoppable cyborg with the face of Arnold Schwarzenegger, gave birth to a whole independent universe, which, although it exists with varying success, but the contribution of "Terminator" to the industry and culture as a whole cannot be underestimated. There is no person who has not heard anything about a cyborg from the future, John Connor or Skynet.
What makes a movie so iconic? An interesting story with a rich background, a chic thriller atmosphere, an excellent action-component, charismatic Arnie with her legendary “I’ll be back”, the evolution of the character of Linda Hamilton, good chemistry between Sarah and Kyle, chic at that time special effects, an incomparable main musical theme of Brad Fidel. And now "Terminator" can be called a real classic of the genre.
I don’t want to separate each part of the film. It is enough that all its elements together give just a stunning picture that can be viewed and revised to this day.

James Cameron is an outstanding director who makes exciting, great films. The Terminator movie is one of those works.
From 2029 to 1984 sent two main characters of this film. The first is the cyborg terminator (A. Schwarzenegger) - one of the many machines in 2029 with a specific task: to find a woman whose name is Sarah Connor and eliminate her for a specific purpose.
The second is soldier Kyle Reese, a resistance leader whose mission is the opposite: to protect this woman. Kyle is an image of a noble, brave, fearless man, who was many in history, defenders of his homeland, civilization. Such people were in the past, there are in the present, and as shown in this film, will be in the future – that is, at all times.
Arnold Schwarzenegger in this negative role managed to accurately convey the cruelty, lack of emotions, callousness of this killer cyborg.
The film raises a very acute philosophical question about the relationship between humanity and machines and technology. Scientific and technological progress, intensive development of science and technology is a natural, perhaps natural, useful and necessary process. But is there a negative side, is everything not so good and beautiful at the moment when the machine is stronger than man?
And in this movie, it says, yes. When the cyborg, the Terminator, is programmed for the task of eliminating Sarah Connor, he will pursue this goal very persistently, tirelessly. At the beginning of the film, he meticulously eliminates in the order of the telephone directory all the women named Sarah Connor until the turn reaches his goal.
And then the pursuit, the chase, the shootouts, which are staged very spectacularly, excitingly, spectacularly. But it's creepy. It's a thriller.
And thanks to the excellent athletic form of A. Schwarzenegger, it becomes clear whether, when performing this task, something can stop a cyborg who does not know fatigue, he does not need time to sleep, he does not take bullets, he is not afraid of the police; moving a truck, an explosion in a truck - can he at least stop something? But perhaps the most frightening thing is that the machine has no emotions, no feelings of love, no feelings of pity, no feelings of sympathy, no feelings of humanity. The Terminator has only one task: liquidation.
The film evokes a sense of nostalgia for 1984: cars, phone booths, clothes - an era in which joy, light, love and life still existed, against all odds, as they have in all times.

(brief retelling)
One day (literally a few days ago) my life changed forever. I saw something that was not meant for my eyes, something that no mortal (without a certain medical background) should ever see. Not knowing how to live with this, not being able to see what I saw, not being able to pretend to witness an alien invasion and undergo a deserved erasure of memory, I decided to share this with you so that you too would not know how to live. The fact is that if you watch the film “Terminator” in good enough quality on a large enough screen from a close enough distance and carefully enough, you can see Arnold Schwarzenegger’s MPH in one of the opening scenes. How blessed was the time of small screens and low-quality copies of video recordings, where such piquant details were completely hidden.
However, on one anatomy of the “iron Arnie” review is not cooked, even if you put something similar on top. One could, of course, speculate about the influence of this work on the genre of film fiction, but it is too tedious and will still run into the creation of “Avatars”, who with laudable zeal drive nails into the coffin of the above-mentioned genre for... how long is Cameron going to shoot them? Let me ask you a riddle: what do Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen have in common that other actors cannot boast of?
Now that you're hopefully intrigued, I can take a moment to look at the careers involved. Director and screenwriter James Cameron, having realized the full potential of his lucky ticket, not only that he gave birth to a new franchise, with which less involved businessmen continue to feed to this day, but also took a frisky start to a bright future. In the future, he will please fans and exemplary sequels, and masterpieces of film fiction, until he suddenly realizes that snotty dramas sell better, and poring over their plots is disproportionately easier. On that dark day, progressive humanity will forever lose a wonderful science fiction writer, and the box office will receive a permanent record holder.
The second person for whom participation in the opus was only the beginning of success was a maliciously pumped Austrian immigrant with dignity dangling in the first paragraph. A person with no five minutes is interesting and undoubtedly cultic in certain circles. A man who changed several funny professions, lost a tank in the army, immortalized not only on the Alley of Stars, but also in the name of a beetle from the Harlapin subfamily, valiantly supporting the death penalty on both sides of the screen. In general, the character of a boring biography, which, by the way, will also be published soon, so it makes no sense to dwell on it in detail.
The rest of the accomplices have not received similar popularity. Linda Hamilton so forever and remained in the memory of the human single and unique Sarah Connor (fans of Lena Headey please go to Westeros, where they expect a warm meeting with fans of the chronic mother of everything and all Emilia Clark). Michael Bien, tied up with Cameron in sequelomania (even in the director’s version of “Judgment Day” it is) will be associated with the image of a brave and handsome soldier on the dancer at a woman (let’s cross our fingers together so that he returns in the fifth “Alien” by Neil Blomkamp). There is nothing to say about the rest except what will be said below.
Perhaps, in this place should be a lyrical retreat: long before the start of the serial murders of Sean Bean, another actor began his career as a suicide bomber. And although in terms of quantity, quality and memetics, Sean Bean will do it clean, but some bars the British will not be able to overcome. Namely, to accept the doom at the hands of a galaxy of no less epic characters. Shooting a mob of Orcs is a kind of depressing slaughter, as are other ordinary executions. What to talk about – even in the cult among me and a number of other comrades “Sylent Hill” Sean Bean died not from the monumental Pyramid Head, but from boring sectarians.
And, returning to the mystery, you can smoothly end the review: Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen are united by the fact that they both had the honor of accepting screen death at the hands, feet, limbs and weapons of three iconic antagonists of film fiction - Terminator, Alien and Predator. Impressive set, isn't it?
The first part of the Terminator looked really revolutionary for its time, I do not dare to judge how good it came out long before I was born. But one thing I can say for sure, even now I watched it with interest, and this is provided that I watched it not for the first time.
Of course, the plot of the picture may seem too simple, in fact, it is. But here's the thing, for all its simplicity, it does a great job of keeping the viewer on edge. Not even important conversations can prevent this.
And the very idea of an unstoppable machine existing only to destroy its target at any cost seemed brilliant at that time. And in combination with her belonging to a different time and completely instilled fear. Yes, and looks most of the film is rather not as an action movie, but as a tense thriller.
Well, the bonus is a convincing acting game, and not only Arnold Schwarzenegger has the whole film diligently not expressing any emotions. Linda Hamilton and Michael Bean really feel like a couple, the director perfectly showed the whole range of feelings they feel for each other from the first to the last meeting.
Terminator is still a classic, and it should be seen, even despite the outdated effects. Strangely enough, they are not the main thing here.
Another dose of high-quality “psychoanalysis for the poor”
Fantasy and science fiction, like films of any other genre, deal with alienation. Some everyday stories, familiar to everyone, we recreate in the imagination, decorating them with fictional details - because without embellishment, thinking about them is too painful.
Thinking about such stories helps us play movies. This format of art provides an opportunity to rework, think and creatively pass through stories that cause pain.
The life story told in the “Terminator” is told by many other films, such as “Children of Man”, “Serpico”, “Planet of Fear” and even the second season of “Gangster Petersburg” (you can list for a long time). A man and a woman find each other, a child is born, a man disappears. And then the film-fantasy is taken to work: you need to explain to the child why there is no dad, where he went.
Cameron's "Terminator" did a great job of telling us a story that everyone knows, so that the audience would like it and that children growing up without a father would get their share of "poor psychoanalysis," as someone once called cinema. As Mazin writes in his book Dreams of Cinema and Psychoanalysis, cinema performs a subject-forming function. This means that children who grow up without parents, "Terminator" allows you to form a personal mythology that is necessary for any psyche - in our case, this is the mythology of the life and adventures of a native but unknown father.
Add to this the cinematic merits of the film, the fact that even today, in 2016, you watch it in one breath, and the fact that today you already realize that this is a real cultural phenomenon. Nevertheless, many special effects are already outdated, and Schwarzenegger in this film, although good, it is clear that he has not yet mastered the image of a cyborg killer and he lacks experience (this image he will bring to perfection in 1991, in the film “Terminator: Judgement Day”).

In connection with the release on the big screens of the film Terminator: Genesis in 2015, distributors released the original version of the film Terminator (1984). I could not help but go to this great film and realized the long-held dream of cinema audience.
For a long time I wanted to write a review of this great film, which secured for Arnold Schwarzenegger a great fame, after Conan. After all, in 1984, no one could have imagined what a furor this film would produce. On which has grown more than one generation of cinema viewers.
The film was shot in a rather “dark” style and was originally conceived as a horror movie. But to some extent he is. Like Terminator 2: Judgment Day, it has all the seriousness that the rest of the series lacks. Here there is a future in which it is very difficult for people to survive, which is shown to the viewer. Then the past is where the whole movie started. There is no such pathosity as in modern films and that playfulness.
Arnold Schwarzenegger - his most significant and, in my opinion, "deathly role." Because since we were shown Arnold and the way he moved on screen and played the role of the Cyborg killer, it was great. A serious, very strong killer who knows no pity is ready to do anything for his goal. Persecuting his victim to the last. The legendary phrase “I’ll Be Back” sounded in this film from the mouth of iron Arnie and later stuck with him for many years.
Michael Bean - Frankly, this actor I have seen little in the movies. I also remember him in the movies Aliens and Abyss (although I almost don’t remember watching the last movie a long time ago). I want to say that the actor approached the role of defender both externally and by the way he expressed his emotions in the film. Trying to save in every possible way, the person on whom the fate of the future would depend.
Linda Hamilton - seeing her in the film Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. To this day, she remains the true Sarah Conor. That young girl, who had never seen any threats before, faced a serious challenge to survive and protect her life. Then it turned into a terrible war of resistance. It was with Linda and her participation in the film The Terminator that the militant generation of female actors who could fight so fiercely on the screen and fight back began.
James Cameron is a brilliant director who gave us such popular films as Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Titanic and Avatar. But just his full-fledged work, which received delight from the cinema of the audience, began with the film Terminator. He sees very well what the viewer needs. He knows how and where to make a film. He knows how to choose the right actors.
For those of you who don’t know, the idea for Terminator came to James Cameron when he was suffering from a fever. He dreamed of something "metal" coming out of the fire, killing everything in its path. Later, as James himself told that he dreamed so much real and he did not immediately recover from what he saw. After taking it for an idea, he took this masterpiece.
Terminator. There is no need to explain who he is - the fruit of the imagination of director James Cameron, who has become a cult character of fantastic cinema. However, it is unlikely ' The Terminator' should be ranked as science fiction, much more accurately place it in the genre of a thriller or even a horror film, in which fiction serves only as a formal substantiation of the plot. It is more of a film about a ruthless killer maniac who pursues his victims only out of a passion for murder. The idea of a robot covered with human flesh opened the filmmaker the space to show amazing bodily transformations, when something else grows out of a seemingly ordinary person, shocking, dangling into the subconscious. Images 'Terminator' turned out so convincing that he and thirty years later looks fresh.
In a hypothetical future, a superintelligent computer controlling nuclear forces recognizes humans as a threat to itself and begins a war to destroy them. People organize a resistance, whose leader John Connor is so dangerous to machines that the computer decides to kill him, but not directly, but by sending back in time a humanoid cyborg to kill not Connor himself, but his future mother named Sarah. The script is not very original, it uses motifs that have appeared repeatedly in literature and cinema. Another thing is his visualization, in which the talent of the director was manifested.
For a film about a murderer, it was necessary to create an extremely convincing image of the antagonist. Cameron, contrary to the original idea of invisibility, erasing the appearance of the Terminator, used the hyper-masculine texture of bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger and did not fail. The athlete in the image of a combat cyborg became a cult character, and clearly not thanks to the skill of the actor, who had to say a dozen lines and generally avoid the manifestation of any emotions (after all, he is not a person!), but precisely the visual strategy of the director. Cameron leads the character through a variety of transformations. The Terminator appears on the screen naked, like a newborn. His aggressiveness is clearly revealed in the scene where he kills punks and takes their clothes. The Terminator, like a serial killer, pursues all the women named Sarah Connor to get to the right place. He encounters a soldier, Sarah’s protector, in a fight with whom he receives wounds and begins to gradually disincarnate. Mechanical devices, dolls and makeup look creepy and at the same time attractive, not without reason they are given so much screen time. The Terminator is riddled with bullets, its flesh dies and decomposes, then it passes through the fire and rises from it in a new form - no longer a man, but a sparkling metal skeleton. The skill of the director allows all this not to look naive and ridiculous, as in other films about robots of the pre-digital era. He without regret turns the face of the main actor of the film into a bloody mask with a burning red eye, and then completely erases it, leaving only metal - because the image does not suffer from this, but, on the contrary, causes the admiration of the viewer. It was a well-implemented visual strategy, in my opinion, that turned the ‘Terminator’ 39 into a fact of film art, not just another fast-forgetting action movie. Frighteningly beautiful transformations (seemingly completely inconceivable in relation to the leading star of the film, without which the viewer could lose interest in what is happening) and techniques more characteristic of a horror film than fiction about the confrontation between artificial intelligence and man, about which Cameron, in fact, was silent, allowed to create a work not only for fans of explosions and chases, but also for connoisseurs of visual magic of real cinema.
Before Terminator, James Cameron was a nobody, it all started with the failed film Piranha 2: Spawning. At the end of filming, James became very ill and in delirium he had a dream about a pumped man with a red eye. After James decided to make his dream in the film, but the studio refused the script, considering it delusional. But still, Cameron’s script was adopted by the Metro Golden Mayer film company, but the budget was very small only about $ 6.4 million.
I recently reviewed this film and realized that it has not aged, the acting is great, the gloomy atmosphere is transferred to perfectly, the special effects turned out to be excellent, of course you can notice the cheapness somewhere, but if you know what the budget was and what the times were, then you can not pay attention to this. The main advantage of the film is that with the theme of time travel, everything turned out logically. This rarely happens, I personally do not like time travel movies, but except for the Back to the Future trilogy and the Terminator.
The acting is great. Michael Bean played so well, spoke so well the dialogue that even begin to believe in the gloomy future, and a very charismatic actor.
The main asset of this film is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Originally, the T-800 Terminator was supposed to be played by Lance Henriksen. After the success of the film “Conan the Barbarian”, Arnold became some kind of aspiring star and the film company insisted that the film earned something, the film should star some famous actor. From the beginning, Cameron did not want to work with Arnold, but they became good friends who are still friends.
So Arnold well conveyed the image of a cyborg killer who has no conscience, no compassion, no morality, no mercy. The T-800 itself is included in the lists of the best cinema villains. It's understandably a cyborg that turns out to be intimidating and charismatic, and the very idea that a machine that can kill anyone and be human-like is frightening in itself. In the film, Arnold said a couple of lines, but they are memorable. But of course, everyone knows the phrase "I'll be back."
The atmosphere of the film is chic, gloomy and frightening. The film takes place more at night, due to the small budget, but these night shots make the atmosphere. And the soundtrack. The music of the film is beautiful even without comment.
In general, Terminator is a cult film-legend that everyone knows. This film made Arnold Schwarzenegger famous all over the world, and the actor is far from perfect, but he is a very charismatic person. And the film glorified James Cameron as a very promising director. A film with a great soundtrack, atmosphere, scenes, the darkest and scariest scene, in my opinion, this is a scene in the police station. With great acting. It’s a great movie, it’s a great movie.
James Cameron’s film “The Terminator” is undoubtedly the pearl of the entire history of cinema around the world. The values that embrace this, I will not be afraid of this word, the foundation of the whole movie is simply not even counted. And the contribution to the entire era of the creation and now the existence of paintings cannot be overestimated.
As for me, this picture is primarily sentimental value. As a young child, I was fascinated by the commercial for this film. This was before commercials were called trailers. The most enchanting thing for me was sleep, where the resistance squad, fleeing on a pickup truck with a machine gun mounted on it, shot at the oncoming pile of metal, galloped like a horse, and then turned over. But now, after thousands of views, I describe the actions on the screen in such detail. Then I saw something incredible!
But God is with her, with this scene... Although it looks great even today. Even now, only when I remember her, I get goosebumps! What's the scenario? Let's talk more.
Skynet — the evolved brainchild Cyberdine Systems — is the founder of the nuclear war that occurred in the future. We are shown the ruins of the post-apocalyptic year 2029 AD. She (this Skynet) is like a marshal at the rebellious machines. Then we'll be told that there's been a global merger of man-made systems. Anyway, it's simple. Creation took over the world. But there are a handful of desperate people led by a legendary warlord. The brain center needs to kill his mother in the distant past, long before the birth of the Savior. And She sends the T-800, Model 101, to 1984 to deal with her Skynet disaster once and for all. It’s even simpler: Sarah is killed – her son is not born, which means that the 2029 world of cars lives and lives without a Resistance General.
Really? It seems to be very simple in theory. But in practice... It took me about 21 years to understand this global turn of time (about that many years ago I watched the first Terminator). In general, it is as if Time is represented in the form of a snake devouring its tail. But as if everything is spiraling...
Then comes the story axis, which will be clear even to children. It is a gift that children can be afraid of this film. I was scared. The children of my childhood were afraid, too. No, just imagine! Young, neither sleep nor spirit is not aware of its mission and does not know the problems and dangers Sarah Connor But the fate of the future wanted everything to happen as it happened. Her son in 2029 just tracked the actions of Skynet and sent her in pursuit of the fighter Kyla Reese.
That's all. I even mixed up with my impressions continued to write about the plot. All right, I'll finish. In principle, the film will consist of tracking Terminator Sarah, escaping them with Kyle Reese from this terrible murder machine and, ideally, an idea: how to eliminate the one who, in fact, was created with the elimination program.
The film really has a root suspense inherent in horror. In order not to be unfounded, I watched the film yesterday. And I was pleasantly shocked that after more than two decades, he made exactly the impression I had the first time.
I haven’t checked out (I haven’t seen all the movies), but I don’t think Arnold Schwarzenegger has any more negative roles than the Cyborg Killer. The terminator became a parable, and the phrase "I'll be back" became a household word.
They don't make movies like that anymore. Maybe it's time. Don't know. But here the murderer from faraway places was feared sincerely by the main characters. The very fact that a man in appearance from the first shots in a nightclub "TechNoir" falls, then rises. It's cathartic. How do you fight that?! And the shooting at the police station? How many queues have been released in the ruin of everything and all the supostat...
But there was one point that did not fit into the logic of the narrative. Why would Eighty leave the police car? He does not know the obstacles in the way. Here's the cards. He even faked a police voice. It's somewhere else in the first half of the movie. I think everyone remembers these pictures.
Also, but it's already nitpicking. Why would Kyle Reese snatch a service gun from a police officer to ask the year he showed up? He borrowed clothes from a homeless man. Or was the poor bum in a rush and, according to Kyle Reese, wouldn't remember the year? . .
Okay. The film is unmatched. Now someone will say that the second part of the ("Judgment Day") is better. I won't argue. That's not it. This film is the opening film, which marked the beginning of a franchise that can become endless. There quality may suffer afterwards, but the first is the first, and it is incomparable. I close my eyes to the flawless iron skeleton in the endgame, understanding the “garage” conditions of creating a new structure.
Michael Bean and Linda Hamilton played brilliant roles. Others did not fall out of the clip anywhere either. Even playing a psychologist Erl Bohen.
I guess I have nothing to add. This film is an absolute masterpiece. Not even taking into account such a distant year of its release. Watch everyone!
And remember: if there were dogs barking nearby, then maybe someone came for you. Someone from a year like 2029...
To say something about this amazing tape is in itself superfluous. "Terminator" by James Cameron loudly and on the case, without unnecessary (and at that time it was impossible to imagine otherwise) slurs entered our lives, on all legal grounds pushing other pictures, and firmly entrenched on the top of the pedestal of world cinema!
That's what I think. Such films appear once in the history of cinema! These films are made for others like me to say about them, “I was born to see The Terminator!”
I'll remember something else (maybe someone has a nostalgia challenge). "Terminator" trailer was shown at the first commercials. And I discovered it for myself in the field of miracles then even with Vlad Listyev. And of course, such an advertising move took effect. I probably watched it 10 years after it was released. But is that really important?
And there. And there, in the future, machines are waging a serious war to exterminate these miserable mortals. The resistance fighters, however, began to take over. And they despaired of sending a cyborg to 1984 in order to destroy the mother of someone who in 2029 would become a hero of the uprising. Sarah Connor.
The role of this same Terminator thug was played by a man who instantly became a legend around the world. Arnold Schwarzenegger The role of savior Sarah Connor fell to play Michael Bean, who as such is not particularly remembered for serious roles in world cinema. Sarah was played by Linda Hamsilton. And this name, despite the size of the actress, at least fans of “Terminator” remembered as “Our Father”.
Well, if I continue to mention the plot when describing the actors and roles, I will continue. In fact, the whole film goes in such a way that Kyle Reese tries to snatch Sarah from the hands of an insensitive killer "T-800".
That would seem to be it. But! All this is filmed in such a wondrous way that it keeps in suspense just amazing way. Perhaps it is all about dedication and love of art.
Of course, the revelation was the exposure of the Terminator. His metal skeleton. The vehicle continued to move.
Needless to say, something looks clumsy right now. But it's their axe porridge. But everything is original. Right and clear. Great and forever! Don't you? Ask him about it.
Many flattering words have already been said about “Terminator”, the first truly authorial project of Canadian director James Cameron, who later became famous for his large-scale productions. In many ways, the first “Terminator” remained an unsurpassed milestone in his filmography, forever winning the love of the audience: the original (and most importantly – simple) concept and a well-written script, coupled with a brilliant production, provided the perfect pace, calibrated throughout the film. No extra scene, no extra frame. Unprecedented level of performance.
The film became a real icon of the genre, giving the world one of the most memorable images in the history of cinema. In this regard, I would like to note what the Terminator did not become.
While Kyle Reese, along with Sarah Connor, fight for survival on the night streets of Los Angeles, the film itself is waging its own fight for the right to represent this or that genre. Being a science fiction action movie in its essence, the Terminator clearly traces the beginnings of horror elements characteristic of horror films. This is noticeable in the stage techniques, camera work, musical design in some episodes, as well as the presence of truly tense moments. Not to mention the creepy image of the Terminator himself - a soulless killing machine. Having painted an infinitely gloomy and believable picture of a terrible future, Cameron wisely transfers the scene to our time, thereby spurring the audience to develop an alarming sensation that permeates the entire film from beginning to end.
Under certain circumstances, Cameron could make a great director of horror films. “The Terminator” and the subsequent film “Aliens” clearly demonstrate the creative potential of Cameron as a horror director. It is noteworthy that just his first directorial work was the thrash horror film Piranha 2. And how to know where the wheel of history would turn then, if “Terminator” was not a warning film of an impending catastrophe, but a cruel thriller about a maniac in a denim jacket, cold-bloodedly exterminating his victims (which is clearly hinted at by the inadequate translation of the film title in the Soviet box office – “Killer Cyborg”)?
Either way, fate decided differently. Most likely, the very course of the story determined what this film should be. The Terminator was destined to be a fantastic movie. And he was. He became one of the best. We may have lost a promising director of horror films, but in return we got an outstanding master – a director of amazing epic stories. I think it's a good trade!
The Terminator is a science fiction film directed by James Cameron. The film was released in 1984 and left its mark in the cinema. More than 30 years have passed, and the film franchise already releases part 5 in cinemas. James Cameron claims that the idea of the film literally dreamed of him. In 1981, in Rome, while finishing his first major film, Piranha 2, Cameron contracted a fever. In delirium, he saw a man with a red eye stalking a girl. The script was written in 1982 with his friend William Visher. It was not possible to find funding for a long time, major film companies refused to take up the project. As a result, the script was sold for a symbolic price of one dollar to aspiring producer Gail Ann Hurd (the future second wife of Cameron). Even then, Cameron had the idea of a robot made of liquid metal, able to change its shape depending on the circumstances, and the action of the film was to take place entirely in the future. But on the one hand, in the mid-1980s, special effects had not yet reached the required level, and on the other hand, the project had a very modest budget. Therefore, the director had to move the film from the future to the present and abandon the idea of using a liquid terminator. This idea was implemented in the second film.
In the ranking of the best films of all time on the IMDb website Terminator ranks 210th (50th among action films and 27th among science fiction films). In 2008, he was included by the Library of Congress in the list of films recognized as a cultural heritage of the United States.

“Terminator” is undoubtedly a cult sci-fi action movie, with which you can not argue. But it is very disappointing that, no matter how it turns out, nowadays the content of the film is very outdated, in particular it concerns special effects, which in the film are exactly... none, if by modern standards.
Regarding the film’s obsolescence, think of Sarah Connor’s phone book search. In the 80s, ordinary American people, having watched the Terminator, were afraid that they were so easy to find if anyone wanted to. Nowadays, people do not think about this at all, but simply put left-right all information about themselves in various Instagram, Vkontakte, Facebook and similar services, talking about selfies against the background of their places of stay, geotags in photos, etc. Simply put, you do not need to be a representative of law enforcement agencies and engage in wiretapping to find the average modern young man. Everyone can do this, just as each of us voluntarily puts information about ourselves on public display without a second thought in our head. So these days, Terminator wouldn't even have to hack into computer networks, it would be enough to have an account on some social network, a couple of minutes of searching - and here's Sarah Connor with fresh selfies, which are easy to calculate her location.
I agree, it is foolish to compare the film thirty years ago, using modern standards. For example, for the citizens of our country who survived the 90s, Terminator will forever remain a cult film. This is an undisputed hit of video distribution of the time and television. I’m sure those who were born in the early 90s, more than once watched it on TV. But again, I come back to the fact that it is foolish to argue with the fact that the “Terminator” is seriously outdated – the modern viewer is not interested in it, and does not need it, and this, hand on heart, is correct. Nowadays, the film is good as a museum exhibit and must be viewed by the younger generation of film fans. For everyone else, there are more modern “May the Savior Come” and “Genesis.”
If we talk only about the fact that the film was always bad, then we will, of course, talk about the music, which in the Terminator, at least, disgusting. The music is a type of fantastic tracks that are in no way harmonious, do not fit the tone of the film and just cut your ears. The only sane musical theme was the title theme of the film, but it will gain real fame later, when it undergoes a modification in the sequel.
The verdict. A cult film of the past, which, unfortunately, it is impossible to watch today without a curved face.
