Vladimir Leonidovich Gulyaev was born in Sverdlovsk on October 30, 1924. His youth fell on the years of the Great Patriotic War. From 1941 to 1942, Vladimir worked as a locksmith in the Perm aviation workshops, and when he was seventeen years old, he was admitted to the Perm aviation school, which produced bomber pilots. In the autumn of 1942, Gulyaev completed his training and began independent flights. In a couple of months he was supposed to receive the rank of sergeant and distributed in the unit, but had to finish his studies as a pilot-attack aircraft. He graduated from school as a junior lieutenant.
18-year-old Vladimir Gulyaev went straight to the front from Red Square on November 6, 1943. He participated in the Victory Parade on June 24, 1945, and this event became the main one in his life. Returning to peaceful life, Vladimir Gulyaev entered VGIK for the course of Sergei Yutkevich and Mikhail Romm, who successfully graduated in 1951.
